Seems like a brilliant tablet. But what's the difference with a Samsung Tab Active 3 for instance? That's a rugged tablet, dust-water-shock-cold-heatproof (milspec) that I use on the bike. The touchscreen can be used with (summer) gloves and it also has a pen that can be used. You can charge it with pogo pins, but that seems unreliable in the rain (I didn't notice a problem, but I wasn't in heavy rain yet). Samsung has it in it's 'enterprise' lineup, which means you get 4 years of updates guaranteed. It's a whole lot cheaper than this tablet. Maybe it doesn't have the 1000nit screen and not the 'professional' gps chip, but it works flawlessly. Never had an issue. Might be a good alternative.

They have a free app that can be used on any android device and the controler even work with those. This is for those who need a purpose built upgrade from regular phone or tablets. what's special is not just the bright screen and advanced gps but also powering options without compromising the waterproof design, while normal or even rugged tab or phone has to be plugged using usb port which can be a weak point especialy when hard or salty water gets in, it's a worst case scenerio i know. this one has pogo pin and M8 secure power connector which can be used simultaneously, it's a better choice who travels through rough roads and conditions. then the mounting option as well with locking mechanism. normally phones and tablets are mounted through regular adaptor which are not that secure and this one has pogo pins so just set and done conveinience. then the auto power on and off function when bike is powered on and off which helps too. and this tablet has custom tailor made DMD2 OS on android platform instead of just an app :).. the GPS here is faster and more accurate almost all phone and tablet including the flagship samsung and apple devices use 1Hzsync which means it updates the gps only 1 time per sec and this tab has 5hz gps which means better updtes of position and accurate because it also simultaneously connects to GPS, GLONAS Galileo and one more constellations. I say if you are serious adv traveller, this is a the best option IMO. remember the full package cost just as much as a similar size GARMIN GPS.

@@Hkmmotologs (sory for the late reaction) Yeah, the power options are important if you plan to go really rough. The Samsung Tab Active also has pogo pins and I have a special RAM mount, but that's not necessarily waterproof. You could use a USB plug with rubber grommets since the Tab has a supplied rugged case that provides a sort of raised access to the USB connector. If you have a waterproof usb cable with some sort of rubberized connector, it could seal the connection. On my bike it works, even in moderate rain. I don't have an adventure bike, so no wild water-adventures for me...

@@kee7678It's working fine. I use it all the time. The Samsung Tab is wonderful. The only problems I had were software problems with navigation apps that had bugs, but that has nothing to do with the device. I see that Samsung has a new Tab Active with a bigger screen even, but it's also a lot more expensive. For my purposes, the Tab Active 3 is more than enough. It has enough CPU power and I use it with WifI, paired to my smartphone, which also works fine. The touch screen works with gloves (not wintergloves) and there's also a pen. Nice touch on the Tab is the 'action button' that you can assign a program to. So I have DMD programmed on that. You can do two actions for that button: short press and long press. It's a nice option, so you don't have to touch a tiny icon with your gloves, just press a hard button on top (in landscape mode).
