Its amazing how neutrals can emphasize the main color choices and how it adds depth and accentuates contrasts. I started my morning watching this vid, and it gave me many ideas on my next sketch. Thanks for making the effort to put this up, Teoh. Keep it coming.

I bought this book last weekend and really enjoyed it. The artwork is a joy and the text is, as you mentioned, very encouraging and inspiring. He touched on many aspects of sketching, with very helpful advice. I loved his watercolor book, too.

As I say before, I like this sketch and I’ve draw many sketches too from the reference photos you give us on Flickr. Another way for me to travel ! I show you tomorrow.

I'll be honest, the high speed of the video was a bit fast for me and at times made me a little dizzy. Still, this is my favorite kind of video of yours and I'm just happy whenever you demonstrate your drawing/painting videos. I really liked the "cooking" analogy. So true! Beautiful piece and thank you for sharing your work! Cheers! :)

Hi Teoh Lovely painting I like what you said about the colors I have an idea for where to find reference photos I’ve been searching locations using Google Earth when I find a place that looks interesting I pop down to the street view and voilá! I’m currently exploring the Gion section of Kyoto from my home in San Francisco 😉

You can sketch from Google Earth reference, and sketch on location. Then compare and see the difference. :-D

Street view is the next best thing if you can't travel to the specific location. The only thing you are missing is the atmosphere and the emotions from your senses, that can add a huge bit to the final artwork. However, that can be solved as well with playing ambient noises - street, park, beach :)

That's an interesting idea - have you done anything similar Teoh? Would like to see the difference - wondering how it would look like :)

Yeah I completely agree. What I ended up using it for was to transport back to a street corner in Paris where I took a photo years ago.. being able to find the street on google earth then jump down to street view, virtually stand in the same spot and see more detail than I could from the old photo was definitely my AH-HA moment.

I like this subdued palette. Could you educate us on where to find good reference photos in another video? Thank you.

I usually just look for reference photo on Flickr. But it may be difficult to tell if a photo is good or bad if you don't know how it was taken. Best is still to practice outdoors, on location. Draw what you see.
