You think Karen Carpenter's voice was better than Whitney Houston's? Why does there need to be a greatest? There are hundreds of great female vocalists and you can't really compare them.

I am a huge music lover and I have heard in my lifetime all of the greatest singers, Streisand, Olivia Newton John, to name a few and don't get me wrong I love them and their singing, but NOBODY and I mean NOBODY touches my heart so deeply as Karen Did with every song she sang. Like her brother, Karen was a genius in knowing the perfect way to sing every song she sang. Her voice is jaw-dropping with every song she sang. I think just about everyone would agree that Karen almost always moves you to tears when you hear "That voice". I always Loved her so much all my life and the world lost so much when we lost the Brilliant Karen Carpenter. She will always stand alone at the #1 position.

Yes! Her voice always touches my soul. You'll love this. John Bettas, who wrote 6 of their megahits, was asked in an interview not too long ago, "What did Karen sound like when you first heard her?" His answer wow-ed me. He said, "I first heard Karen sing when I met Richard in college. Karen was 16 years old at the time, and she sounded like she did when she was in her 20's. She had that voice already, given to her by God."

her voice was purity and richness and warmth and intimacy personified! Add in her perfect pitch and tone and incredible enunciation and diction and well there you have it.... As many over the years have said she sang to the listener NOT at them, she felt like she was singing only for you, it felt like she was sitting in your lap singing to you and that she knew EVERYTHING that a human (i.e. the listener) was going thru.. She was and always will be the master storyteller who knew the song was NOT about her but for the listener. One of if not THEE greatest vocalist (not just a great singer) of love and romance songs ever, male or female...

My aunt said I sang lyrics before I could speak completely... Hearing Karen Carpenter was inspiring. She taught me to sing from my soul. I emulated her. For many years she helped me through the darkness of grief. I wish I could have thanked her. To this day I get goosebumps and cry because of the pure beauty of her voice.
