yes, herb alpert was the one who said she sounded like she was sitting in your lap, singing only to you.. her brother, richard, called her voice "PHONO-genic".... and this is what makes her one of the all time greats and in my opinion the greatest female pop voice of love and romance songs ever in that she was a VOCALIST not just a singer, and a incredible story teller of every song she sang... also i might add a unique talent of hers is that i've never heard any singer male or female with her perfect diction and enunciation...

I was just wondering if Karen hadn't died so tragically, would Richard have been more appreciated? He's been overshadowed by her death. Even Karen has been overshadowed by her own death.

Diana Probst that’s a great question...I guess my thoughts go to whether or not Richard was more appreciated before her death or if it was the same as now?...I was very young when Karen left us (7 years old) so although I was alive while they still were creating music I’m not really sure how they were viewed back in the early 70’s when they exploded on to the scene. I remember listening to them at a really young age on the radio and much more as I grew older.

To see you react to her the same way I do is very touching. It's unusual to see someone your age appreciating her & this kind of music. 💕💕 Actually, it's very bittersweet to watch & hear her for me...always brings a tear to my eyes. Kathy Stammen Hi, I didn’t know about that. Some people make a comment & really don’t intend to hurt someone. They don’t realize how much of an impact their statement can have on someone. Then there are others who do intentionally try to be hurtful, you even see it on here from time to time. You are right , she was precious with so much to offer. Even if she would have gotten out of the entertainment industry I truly wish she could have been happy & it would have had a different ending in her personal life. Stay safe out there my music loving friend ✌🏻

@@pattyyoung2103 Sadly, at the time, no one really knew *what* to do, or even that there *was* anything *to* do. :-( It's easy to look back now, knowing what we now know about eating disorders, and say "why didn't anyone do anything?" -- but unfortunately, anorexia nervosa and body dysmorphia just weren't really recognized or understood, back then; there weren't even that many doctors who had any familiarity with them. In many ways, it was her sudden death at such a young age that finally drew serious media attention to the issue, and raised awareness of them as real conditions needing proper counseling and treatment, not just a change of diet and an admonition that "you're too skinny, you need to eat more."

Hands down, my all-time favourite female vocalist. She makes it seem so effortless. Other female singers may bring out the bells and whistles, the vocal acrobatics, and the super high notes on full vibrato, but Karen, she just sings her heart out and makes it look easy. Her lower register has the feel of silk and the taste of honey. Her voice moves me in ways no one else does. Like many others say, when she sings, she makes it seem like she's singing only to you. RIP, Karen. You are sorely missed.

I'm so pleased that in 2021 this wonderfully talented and beautiful lady's voice is being appreciated..the world lost a talent when she sadly died.. if this was now she would have help and support with her illness it was just so new in the 70's.. nobody has a voice like Karen Carpenter NOBODY comes close..she was sheer perfection..i was a teen in the 70's and feel privileged to have seen them in concert..her voice live was exactly like the recordings..the saddest thing is that she really didnt believe how brilliant she was..Richard was the GOLDEN BOY and Karen always came a poor second in her mothers eyes..she was the boss of the family. .. and dominated her husband and both her children..rip to a bloody LEGEND

One of their best songs, it was one of five (!) of their songs to make it to #2 on Billboard's Hot 100. Their very first single , a remake of the Beatles "Ticket to Ride", did not do well on the charts and stalled at #54. Their next six singles all made the top three! They were the top chart act of the first half of the 70's, topping the Jackson 5 and Three Dog Night. You cannot go wrong checking out any of their many fantastic songs. Karen's voice is always spectacular without being overpowering or tiring to the ear. Richard was the musical side of the group and seemed to always find songs that highlighted her superb vocal ability. Loved them then (the 70's) and still loving them now, Karen will be forever missed by her multitude of fans.

I recently watched a biopic that talked about how good she was on the drums and didn’t necessarily want to give it up, but having a woman up front in the lead singer’s role was what the TV people wanted. So I aliasu Reel an extra twinge of sadness when she’s not on the drums. Not many girls were encouraged to become drummers back then. I always assumed it was a boy’s instrument as a kid. Finally got my first drum kit in my 50s, and wow. So much fun. To today’s girls and young women, I say “Don’t be afraid to get loud!” (Which reminds me to reiterate my request for The Runaways’ Cherry Bomb. 🤘)

A lot of songs in the '70s were short because they didn't want songs on the radio to go over 3 minutes. So it's true, some of the best parts got faded out at the end. They have a few that are longer than 3 minutes. They don't so much adhere to that on the radio anymore
