I believe that there are entertainers in all generations that truly shock people with their talent, voice and emotion. Karen Carpenter was that person and one of the few female singers of the 20th century who just had such a presence and just shined like the sun when she sang. R.I.P. Karen. Unfortunately gone too soon. 😔

@t san no, it was when they made comments about how "chubby" the drummer was. She's repearwsly stayed how much that offended her. However, there were a lot of "family secrets" that also led to it. People don't become anorexic and bulimic over one thing.

Such a great reaction as always. Yes her voice is very calming, and also very honest - she hides behind nothing which is very captivating. My parents had these records when I was really small so I grew up with these on the turntable. It's nice to see these reactions from people who didn't grow up with this music. Later they would be considered "uncool" but of course this gorgeous music stands the test of time. When my husband bought me a turntable again 6 years ago I bought a lot of these old records and I break them out when no one is home. :)

She wasn't just a drummer, she was an outstanding one. In 1975, she was voted as the best rock drummer of the year in a Playboy magazine survey. While female drummers today are still not as common as male drummers, it was unheard of to have a female drummer that was also a lead singer in the 70's.

I’m definitely back with the cool people here, my friend Jayy!! What an insightful reaction and keen eye! Karen started out playing drums, but with that buttery warm voice, the record company wanted out from the drums and front and center on stage. She was very shy and resisted, but she was just a young teen. So, they plopped her out in front with no cover ( plus, she really could play the drums really well) and a magazine commented on her being “chubby,” which she was NOT! Unfortunately, that’s what started her anorexia and ultimately her death. I love her deep, smooth, voice! I’m so happy to be able to leave a comment and see such quality content!! ❤️👍

Ah sweet Karen. Such a magnificent voice, with an amazing range. From what I remember, she was able to get most takes in one shot. She was an incredible drummer too. How she could play them and sing at the same time has always amazed me. They had trouble with their live shows at first though because if you listen carefully, she and Richard are doing their own background vocals... sometimes as many as 8 tracks deep. Hard to accompany yourself if you're performing live. Oh and I'd love to go back and smack the snot out of the first person who told her she was fat!!!!!!!!!!
