Karen was one of a kind. There will never be another like her. She had such a pure calming voice. And she was a terrific drummer. That was her passion even more than singing. Sadly we lost her so young. Thankfully we have her legacy left in her music. The Carpenters had so many great songs such as "(They Long to Be) Close to You", "For All We Know", "We've Only Just Begun", "Goodbye To Love", "Top Of The World", "Sing", "Yesterday Once More", "I Won't Last A Day Without You", "Please Mr. Postman", "Only Yesterday", "There's A Kind Of Hush (All Over the World)" & so many more.

I found a KZbin post titled Karen Carpenter Drummer/Singer. It's from a college Battle of the bands that they won The Dick Carpenter Trio. Karen with a really great drum solo. Other videos have another drummer in them.

Such a tragedy that she was lost to the world at such a young age. There will never be another like her and the world can only enjoy the brilliance of her recordings and mourn for what would have been. 😓

Sarah- Lets not forget her brother the Great Richard Carpenter on Piano. He was a great Piano player and great writer. Love Love Karen. One of the all time greats. Sadly we lost her way to soon. You can't go wrong with a Carpenter song.

Merry Christmas Sarah. Im on my late 60s, so remember KC very well on the radio and TV specials. She began, with her brother Richard, by playing drums. Richard, her brother, was a terrific arranger but KC's voice was discovered at age 19 by Herb Alpert in 1969 which began their road to fame. Richard convinced her that her best singing voice was contralto, 'the money is in the basement'. I believe KC's, voice, especially contralto, was the best female voice ever. No auto-tune, stripping, gimmicks, or screaming. Her nickname was 'one take', since she always sang a song once in studio without a single re-take. She sang to you with mesmerizing emotion, perfect pitch and enunciation. Her voice compelled you to listen. She had no professional voice training. Paul McCartney said she sang Ticket To Ride better than the Beatles, and "she had the most angelic voice I have ever heard". John Lennon told her at an LA restaurant "you have a fabulous voice luv". Every female harmony in nearly all of her songs was hers as well, sang, then dubbed into the song by Richard. They were most successful in early/mid1970s when she received 4 grammys. She was also recognized by 1975 Playboy poll as rock drummer of the year. She never knew true love, nor how good she really was. Check the songs in their Christmas Album (Merry Christmas Darling and best Ave Maria, ever) and other songs such as 'Solitaire', 'Only Yesterday', 'A Place To Hideaway', 'Rainy Days and Mondays','I Can Dream Cant I', 'Someday', 'Hurting Each Other', 'I Need To Be In Love', 'Goodbye To Love', etc.. She had a few friends including Petula Clark and Dionne Warwick. She had serious onset of anorexia in 1975 that continued the rest of her life. Married a guy in 1982 that was broke, not who she thought, and mistreated her. Never knew true love. She died Feb 1983 at 32yo due to complications from anorexia. [Some info contained herein came from documentaries such as, "Only Yesterday]"

No one of today´s female singers, don´t close to Karen Carpenters amazing and crystal clear voice. For me is Karen the greatest female singer of all time! Suggestion another great song by the Carpenters. "Please Mr. Postman" (cover) No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 (1975). "The Marvelettes - Please Mr. Postman" No.1 on the Billboard Hot 100 pop singles chart (1961). (original version) Thanks Sarah! For a great reaction video by "The Carpenters"🙂

Karen didn't write this song but she had a great ability to sing sad songs. This is about a groupie who hooked up with musician passing through town. He is gone and all she has is his music on a radio. Karen said this is one of a handful of songs that was difficult for her to perform on stage. It brought her down. But audiences wanted it. It was a hit.

Karen was truly one of those singers that had one of those once in a lifetime voices. Everything she sang was like pure musical magic. To lose her at such a young age was so tragic. I guess what they say about the brightest candles, that they burn out was too soon. But her legacy still remains, and we can enjoy her music for many more years to come. I love watching the reactions you have to such a wide variety of music. You can tell from your expressions and your words that music is for you what it is for so many of us, a joyful part of our lives. Thank you again for sharing your time with us.

The Carpenters !!! Brother Richard is a great keyboard player and he did the arrangements including how to get the back ground vocals with some kind of voice multiplier. And KAREN !!! Absolutely beautiful voice and she also was a top drummer. Drumming was her 1st love. I remember when she died of a condition that few if any, had ever heard of.

Thanks for letting me drop in again for a visit to your channel, Sarah! Great to see my two Superstars, Karen and you! Her voice was so perfect and she was such an amazing singer. If you ever have the time and inclination there is a YT channel called Wings of Pegasus in which he studies vocalists, and demonstrates how pitch perfect Karen was live, sometimes singing the songs even better than the recording! So sad we lost her far too soon.

Karen died at the tender age of 32 of heart failure from chronic Anorexia Nervosa. She developed Anorexia after being called her brother, Richard's, cute, chubby sister. She never recovered from that quip. It led to life-long depression and horrible body image issues. At the end of her life, she got down to about 80 lbs. She was hospitalized more than once and finally on the road to recovery, but, alas, her poor body was too stressed and exhausted and she suffered a fatal heart attack while at her parents home just shy of her 33rd birthday (March 2nd). Her sudden death was a shattering loss to the world. There hasn't been - nor will there ever be a singer that rivals her. She was also an incredible drummer. She preferred to be known as a drummer that sings. Richard was one of the most brilliant keyboardist, pianist and arrangers of all time who used the layering of their vocals (ONLY Karen and Richard's vocals) to create the wall of sound harmonies. He also brought in an electric guitar to one of their ballads (Goodbye to Love). They took major heat for that - but it turned out to be absolutely fantastic and replicated from then on. They NEVER used - or needed - Autotune. She had perfect pitch. Her voice, combined with Richard's arrangements, were transportive. Her voice, though, should have been dubbed the eighth wonder of the world. It is absolutely impossible to pick a greatest Carpenter's song (BTW, they were the CARPENTERS - not THE Carpenters). They were ALL just amazing.
