As a matter of fact, Karen never liked this song. Though her vocal performance was done on First Take, she wanted to do it again. The Studio wouldn't comply because they were blown away (as you were)!!! It's absolutely crazy how talented this gifted Angel was!

I heard her voice on the radio as a young kid in the 70s and it's something that stays with you. When these songs first came out, they would be played on the radio and people would stop what they were doing, in the grocery store, or the bank or wherever, to listen to this remarkable voice.

She had, in my personal opinion, the best singing voice I have ever heard. Her range, how she backs down and quietens her voice, how she picks up the power and projects her voice. Also, how she feels the song, the words, and songs to tell the story of the words. Other singers do some of these things, for sure, I dont deny that, but no one did it like Karen. The harmony in Carpenters songs give extra depth. And the topic of the songs... despair, loneliness, solitude, emptiness. There is a melancholia of the songs that resonate with too many people, and it's why the lyrics mean so so much, in addition to that amazingly beautiful voice. Thanks for the reaction. Kudos to you. Her voice is the definition of beauty. No one. For me, best singer ever.

All of them!!!! In my opinion, There are a lot of great incredible female singers, Streisand, Ronstadt, to name a few and although I am a fan of them too I am here to say NOBODY that ever lived could even come close to the voice of Karen Carpenter. The ONLY singer who ever gave me chills down my spine and every song she sang was absolute perfection and absolutely phenomenal vocals. Karen was a absolute "Genius" in how she sang. And her brother Richard was "Genius" as well with his piano playing and arrangements. Karen's voice will forever be the greatest most loved singer I have ever heard in my life. No one else could ever take her place. I Love you Forever Karen. Your so deeply loved forever and so deeply missed.

The ultra secret to Karen’s magic is that drumming is her first musical language. She treats every single note, vowel, consonant and phrase she sings in perfect pitch and with strict, perfect time signature and value to laser-like perfection. She bends notes in her own unique way to fit the time structure like NONE of her contemporaries could. That is why NO ONE can copy her. A hyper exact mathematic approach to her music. This is why she could repeat her studio recordings verbatim “live” in concert. There were no other female drum/singer super stars. None. Sheila E actually ADORED and studied Karen Carpenter. Forever Karen Carpenter. Her impact continues to grow HUGE.

This is the single version which I like better than the album version. They added more pronounced drumming and an organ that is added just before the chorus and then through the later part of the song. It just gives this slower ballad a bit more of a "kick."

This one is definitely my favorite of all the Carpenters songs. Karen brings it with that lower register, the money shot, they call it! But she has a lot of great songs: Mr. Guder, still crazy, trying to get that feeling again, yesterday once more… And the list goes on and on and on. She’s addictive!

I saw Karen sing in 1972. Karen Carpenter was one of the best drummers/singers of all time. Some of her best songs were not big hits Other recommendations Her cover of Don't Cry for me Argentina , check out Ned Nickerson's version on youtube -includes actual video footage of the real Eva Peron --spectacular. Karen Carpenter kick-ass drummer gives one a good idea of how good a drummer she was. Other songs --Help, Goodbye to Love, A Song For You, Desperado, I saw her do a Burt Bachrach medley that was pure magic -drumming and singing at the same -- time Carpenter-Burt Bacharach medley -you want the one in black and white ----Duets she sang on youtube -Carol Burnet (Bacharach medley.)-John Denver,Andy Williams, and the incomparable Ella Fitzgerald.

She never cared for this song....she sings it beautifully and even Richard says she swallows the song whole....but he says she was never taken with it.....I can understand why....as beautiful as it is, it was probably too sad for her to sing which is why she never sang it in concert....so no live vocal exists....even the writer Phil Cody says one day he sat down and listened to all recordings and hers was the one he considered the benchmark of all of them....hers was the best!

It's a very sad song written by Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody . Neil Sedaka does a great version in my opinion but the version most people remember was none other than the king 👑👑 of rock & roll Elvis Presley's rendition. .. I believe solitaire was written about Elvis.. Karen's version is my favorite because she not only does a great job with her angelical voice singing it .she also has the gift to make you feel how she feels as she did. A great loss of talent l

Great song weather she liked it or not. She mastered it. Better than Neil. She could sing anything better than anyone in my opinion. I was sad when she left us and will always miss her.

I do really wish you would not stop it. I think it is because you don't want to cry.
