"Superstar" was written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell and originally performed and recorded by Bramlett with her then-husband Delaney Bramlett in 1969 as a duo known as Delaney & Bonnie. The Carpenters recorded their version in 1971 for their third LP, titled "Carpenters" and known to fans as "the tan album" for the color of the album cover. The song became the Carpenters' sixth single and fifth consecutive million-seller, peaking at #2 on the Billboard Hot 100 in the fall of 1971. The recording has become legendary among Carpenters fans, since Karen's lead vocal is a first take, intended only as a guide vocal for the other musicians as they laid each track down. Even more impressive is the fact that she nailed her interpretation, reading the lyrics off a napkin. (Yes, she was that good.) This is really a rip-your-heart-out kind of song. The lyrics are from the point of view of a groupie who had been with a rock star and made the crucial mistake of falling in love with him. And that rock star is never coming back for her. To continue with the theme of wistfulness and longing, try "Rainy Days and Mondays" (also from the "Carpenters" LP) and then "Goodbye to Love" (from "A Song for You").

Karen’s voice is heaven scent. It’s other worldly. beautifully. Herb Alpert of A&M Records said Karens voice was like she was sitting in a chair next to you singing in your ear…very intimate. Thank you for a great reaction. 🎼🎵🎤♥️

This song was originally written by Bonnie Bramlett and Leon Russell. The Carpenters did not write all their music. Brother Richard chose songs that would fit Karen's beautiful vocals. The version you played while very nice seemed a little higher toned than the original off the Carpenters cream album. Still a great song!

May I suggest you another great song from the 70’s? It’s called “I’m Not In Love”, from the group 10cc (the Long version). I think you’ll like it! 👍🎶🌟✌️

Another female singer you should out is Pat Benatar. Her songs Promises in the Dark, All Fired Up and Hell is for Children are incredible. She has a Huge catalog of songs to go through. Her husband of 40 + years is her guitarist. They’re incredibly talented.
