Carpenters, Richard & Karen Carpenter, brother & sister, were the #1 American act of the 1970’s. Karen was 20 in this video and this song in the fall of 1970 was their follow up to their #1 smash Close To You. It was originally a bank commercial theme song, but that was before all of you were born. It’s been used in movies but I can’t name one. Maybe someone can. Sabrina is not related but is inspired by Karen. On the sad side, Karen was Anorexic and it wasn’t a fully understood thing at the time. She died in 1983 (the anniversary just passed on February 3rd) at the age of 32. Carpenters sold over 150M records during their main run with 3 Billboard #1 singles. They had many chart topping songs and albums. Some songs to consider for your rabbit hole journey; Close To You, Superstar, Top of the World, Rainy Days & Mondays. Just pick the video with a bunch of millions of views and you can’t go too wrong. There’s no bad Carpenters song. Karen was the voice of the century. Joe
