Sweet tutorial man! I’m placing some vinyl planks over some old gnarly bathroom tile. I’m stuck trying to figure out how to deal with an existing marble threshold that appears to have been grouted into the old tile. I’m going to hunt through your other vids to see if you have any pointers. Thanks for posting!

Great job mike. So true on the amount of work like this there is. Someday when my body says you can’t go this hard anymore I figured I just get a little pick up truck and repairs only. Keep up the good work!!

Thanks for sharing. Can I just ask, if I needed to bring my wood floor up as the tiling finished 2 inches above the current wood floor boards (don't ask me what happened), how much lower than the finish of the tile would the wood floor need to be brought up to create a good transition please?

Great videos and explanation. Can i do that if the other side will be patched with seeming tape? It won't rip off when i use the knee kicker?

Are there any padded carpet tiles you recommend?

What about threshold transition. From vinyl tile o carpet with a vinyl threshold

Just fitting in the UK we charge about £3.50-4.00 a meter. Sq. And for sisal coir or seagrass 7 quid a meter all day.. And I fit a lot of that shite.. Even have it on our stairs..🤣 Just can't wear it out.. Oh and lvt gotta be looking at 11/12 a meter for straight plank. Oh and a meter is like a royale with cheese.....😉😁

What do you use if the tile is 1" high?

If it's really high then you can stack the tack strip to double the height and/or put the tack strip really close to the tile but just enough space were the carpet will still tuck and it will make it look more even and clean.

They make rubber ramps for dealing with height issues. They come in varying heights and widths. I think at least 1/4, 3/8,and 1/2inch thickness. They're 4 feet long. These are the right way. Like Whoflungdung said, leave your shim slightly away from the tile. Leaving a gap will allow more carpet to be tucked into the gully.

How do I prevent my guests from stepping on the threshold nails? I warn them to walk over it.

I’ve got a question/comment. For you bro. I am not hating in any way. But I thought that putting a tack strip in the door way was a liability. Correct me if I’m wrong.

If the carpet is really thin and cheap it can poke you when you step on it but after you tuck the carpet then you can take a hammer and beat down the tacks on the strip so they won't do that, but generally speaking most carpet is fairly thick and won't poke you anyways. The reason why this is preferable is because the transition looks a lot better than putting any metal or other type of threshold down and makes for a more smooth clean transition to the tile.

If you find a good flooring retailer, I mean really good, they do make tack strip with shorter pins, made for thinner carpets. I never hammer the pins flat, just lightly tap any high ones you can feel. You can also "shorten" the pins by adding some thin fabric or duct tape over the pins. The old way of turning under and tacking by hand leaves a nice edge. It's time consuming tho.

We use z plates in the UK. And your tucking knife is a lino knife here. But a dead handy little thing.. And a hundred bucks for a door way.. I'm on a fucking plane soon as Rona gets gone..🤣

You're going to drive a half hour to a customers home and back to do this for $15 😁 My minimum is $150
