CarPlay MMI Prime/PRO for BMW CIC iDrive Reveal

Once this is installed, is it possible to swap views between the MMI Prime and OEM iDrive System? Or does this completely override iDrive. If so, how is that done? I’d still like to be able to go back to OEM view without having to remove the MMI Prime box. Thanks!

You can toggle back and forth between the MMI/CarPlay and the regular iDrive screen at any time by pressing and holding the iDrive controller MENU button for 3 seconds.

One last question, is it possible to play built in satellite radio or even Bluetooth audio from iDrive while at the same time using CarPlay to navigate with Waze. The use case is that my phone is running Waze on CarPlay, and my passenger is playing music via Bluetooth or I’m listening to Sirius all at once...Thanks again!

Hardware Software I only pay to use Sirius XM in my car cause I only listen to it in the car. It costs extra to access via the app which is ridiculous...

@@danjover6244 We use the AUX input for feeding audio through the BMW speakers, so if you switch the audio input to Radio - you will no longer hear audio from CarPlay (since it's no longer set to AUX). You could have Satellite radio playing while viewing Waze - but you wouldn't hear any Waze nav commands. For that reason it's best to play music from one of the many music streamin apps available in CarPlay.

@@bimmer-tech Got it...this makes sense. I actually don't even like turn by turn guidance in general or CarPlay reading my texts, or frankly ever talking on the phone so this would work great for me. I just want Waze on my iDrive screen. Thanks!

Glad I didn't waste my money updating the BMW nav maps on my cic . As maps on BMW is rubbish. I want this for my e90 cic . Cant beat Google maps .

Okay but am I able to use some features on my original OS. I like that to can go to the screen that tells me why my check system light is on, and changing how long my lights stay on, etc.

After installing CarPlay MMI Prime you will have two systems in your car. One is iDrive - so all the features you have now.The second is the MMI Prime, which will give you access to CarPlay/ Android Auto/ Screen mirroring. In other words - you will not lose your current features after installing MMI Prime.

All you need is an OEM mic in the car, but even if your car doesn't have one it can be easily retrofitted (an OEM mic) in the original spot with a minimal amount of additional effort and wiring. We could easily prepare the additionally required wiring and mic.

@@paulsmith198786 There is a couple of options that determine if there is or isn't a mic in a BMW. If your car has factory handsfree bluetooth or voice command: it surely has an OEM mic.

The MMI Prime module uses AUX as the input in the iDrive system.

BimmerTech I also saw on a similar BimmerTech video that someone programmed one of the 8 programmable button shortcuts to toggle between iDrive and the MMI. I assume that would work here too.

Steering wheel controls do not work with CIC equipped cars, with exception for F30 and F10 cars equipped with said head unit.

Hey from SWFL customer ! I have a couple of your F Series front and rear camera and MMIs with front and rear cameras on my E series that we have enjoyed for a while. What is the process to convert to this system on E series ? Swap MMIs? Hate to open it all up on the 1 series as there is so little room to work and everything is working great. However this looks like a great upgrade. Lastly for existing MMI owners is there a price difference? Thanks for your anticipated reply.
