Yeah! I LOVE the early sets! (Of course I love all of them but the early ones hold a special place in my heart :-)) Special effects budget was totally worth blowing on that iconic opening sequence! This may well be my favourite Car Pool ep. Rob Grant, "what a guy!"

They were first talking with the BBC about it in '83 ?! Nearly straight off the back of the Hitch Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy. The BBC were probably wary of doing another comedy sci-fi so soon?

@LittleNerd Two other things to say 1) That cardi & T shirt combo really suit Bob and 2) You can't help wishing that Rob & Doug would get back together. It'd feel like your parents getting back together. Like status quo was restored in the world. *Sad little smile.*

It's strange how Rob Grant's says here that he's the one who most cared about continuity yet I've seen videos where Doug Naylor says Doug's the one who most cares about continuity. They must mean continuity in different aspects from each other.

In reference to 'it's like watching your ex wifes second honeymoon video' - i watched an episode of my ex wife on George Clarkes 'old house new home' - I laughed and laughed - - she was just the same - annoying people with her deviscive and decidedly inept indecision...and her new chap was just comedy genius dealing with it - good luck to him! Rob should watch it, it's clensing, to know it's the same - but not quite as good - I hope he has watched it by now. Come back Rob! Great interview by Rob, of Rob and a decent comment by... I wonder where they got the idea for 'comedians in cars' and 'carpool Karaoke'????? Hope they got royalties!

I wonder if, after 8 relatively successful seasons, plus the revival of Dr Who and spin offs such as Torchwood, the BBC have changed their mind a tad with regards to science fiction.

Red dwarf went to 💩 when rob left. Also when Ed bye left. Series 1-6 is red dwarf. Anything after that lost the magic. At first red dwarf was a clever sci fi with a sprinkling of comedy. After series 6 it became more and more of a comedy with a sprinkling of good sci fi writing.

The next release of red dwarf could by the greatest, funniest, innovative episode of any sitcoms EVER but there’s will still be people such as yourself saying “but it’s not as good as series 1-6” Once it’s gone it’s gone. I want as much as I can get. If u don’t wanna watch it... don’t 🤷‍♂️

@@TheJohnCooper 🤣thanks pal u just proved my point. What’s your favourite episode? Legion? Polymorph? WHEREVER it is, just imagine we lived in a parallel universe where that EXACT episode(word for word, scene for scene) was in series 10 instead. You would STILL say “that’s wasn’t as good as any of the episodes in 1-6. That’s cos u don’t ACTUALLY care about the quality of the episode. U only care about the nostalgia, being stubborn & saying “not as good as it used to be 😫”

@@TheJohnCooper 🤣thats completely subjective.the fact that you’re saying it like it’s an objective fact further shows that u r set in your ways. Most polls say Back To Reality. PERSONALLY I like Dimension Jump BUT HEY for arguments sake I’m happy to say Gunmen of the Apocalypse is the best episode And like I said...if we lived in a parallel universe where that EXACT episode of Gunmen was in series 10-12 you’d STILL say “not better than anything from series 1-6”

I never understand why programs are reliant on people who'd had a personality bypass and didn't know what comedy was. It's still going on, when you look at the level of detritus that's on offer by the bbc woke committee's club. It's painful. Red Dwarf, Goodness Gracious Me, Psychoville & The league of Gentlemen are about the best they've had on Auntie for 50 years. I have every series on hard disc. I often wondered if I should attend a roadshow or conference of the shows, if only to have a laugh at those go dedicatedly every time.
