I have never driven on a track because it looks too intimitating. The higher gear advice, coming from a racing legend is extremely valueable. Simple but valueable. Thank you, Mr. Tsuchiya.

Neither have I but the simulator gives me a lot of confidence. Also trying basic concepts on street cars just to understand weight transfer thru brake, throttle and steering input improved my confidence for that day I get to go on track. I don't condone any dangerous driving but just simply ways of understanding how each input makes the car behave on turn in, exit and straights . My best tool on KZbin is the Driver61 channel. Study all of his teachings... God bless.

Usually for first-timers, instructors DO recommend you to drive in 3rd gear only (same for my motorcycle track class). There's a lot going on to take in regarding just the track itself, so the more you can ignore about the car, e.g. gear, rpm, etc, the better. Focus on just getting comfy driving around w/o having to fuss with other things inside the car.

As always, quite nice. I remember my first lap in Nürburgring (tourist), I was so excited that 1 minute after start I forgot 80% of the 100+ laps I had driven on videogame and I was driving on eyesight only. So frightening, but at the same time so cool. Then, for next laps, yes, heartbeat reduced and memory came back a bit more

Now that I think about it, taking it slow and making sure to be safe was how I learned to drive in the first place so it makes sense to take that approach on the circut too rather than going all out and probably having a crash.

Hey guys, at around 18:19, he mentioned that he lowered his final gear ratio. I'm just curious why he opted for a lower final gear when the car naturally lacks torque? Does this mean DK's preferred set up is a GT86 with low torque but higher top-speed? Is this the ideal set up for a track oriented GT86? Thanks guys!

15:58, why clutch kick? I think I have seen it in some other hot version video. Is that to mitigate a bit low engine torque entering a straight?
@stubbarn
@stubbarn 2 жыл бұрын
It could also be used to provoke the rear tyres into a spin.
@alamos8
@alamos8 2 жыл бұрын
@@stubbarn Yes, as a drift technique ai knew of it, but on straight line after exiting a corner... I.suppose it is just to give a little "bump" on the powerband, I don't know if it has so real effect, as while the clutch is pressed the engine doesn't push the tyres (although that is an instant, fraction of a second, I don't if it pays for it). On turbo'd cars or big displacement NA cars, with more torque and accelerative power out of corners, no need to do anything
@thaidangable

I'm pretty sure he just clutch kicked out of habit to drift lol. Hard habit to beat when you're DK.

You know there was never a video from anyone teaching track etiquette. Also a guide for noobies to understand the other type of drivers on the track. Yes you can be thought to drive in fastest lines and all. But only in ideal conditions and when you are alone. But real world situation means there would be many people on the track and you are just playing dodgeball with people driving faster and angrier than you.
@stubbarn
@stubbarn 2 жыл бұрын
True. All it takes is one or two pricks to cause a red flag and misery to all drivers. I wouldn’t attend a track session unless there are mandatory etiquette briefings before the track opens.
@madbikes
@madbikes 2 жыл бұрын
"But real world situation means there would be many people on the track and you are just playing dodgeball with people driving faster and angrier than you." Unless you have driven several track days to the point that the group you signed up with allows you to pass anywhere on the track, this is not true. You are not in a competition. Instead, you are just out in the track and have a good time. The first couple times you head for a track day, you will only be allowed to pass on designated long straights when the person in front "point-by" you to pass them. Where and how you can pass will be mentioned in the driver's meeting. If the person ahead of you is holding you up, he/she will be blue flagged, black flagged if they hold you up for too long. Once you have more experience, you can move up to the next group where you can pass without "Point-by" at certain places. If you can demonstrate you can pass and tell people to pass you safely after a couple dozen track days, you may be approved to drive with passing anywhere on a track.
