@resgr5 жыл бұрын
That is not the point! The ball was called out, and neither the line or the umpire corrected the call! In order to not loose the point by ball out pablo did challenged his ball.

Wow, what a strong mental game by Nishikori. This is what happens when you flip out coz of a single call without re-focusing and adjusting accordingly. Even if the point (net ball) carried on - Busta was more than halfway across the court - he was never going to return the eventual down the line shot. He should have let it go.
@yuzo06025 жыл бұрын
Kei started swinging much before the call and the umpire judged Kei hit the ball earlier than the call. Nothing but only the umpire can judge which was first at the site. No matter what the ball was in or out, Kei's action was done and Busta also already moved toward the other side of the court before the call. Even though the challenge was right, Busta cannot reverse everything happened at the moment. That is the reason why the umpire judged that is Kei's point.

It was Kei's point regardless whether it was in or out. Besides, Carreno was running to the opposite direction. Carreno wanted to take advantage of the rule after the fact the point was over just to see how things would go. But, the umpire made the correct decision and gave the point to Kei which he deserves. Kei had to hit the ball almost at the same time when the linesman was calling out which was already a distraction but he made it in while Carreno was running to the other direction. It would have been much more unfair for Kei if the point had to be replayed in this situation. The linesman made 2 mistakes. First one being that it was in fact in and he called it out. Second being that it was a late call. All the blames need to go to the linesman not to the umpire if one wants to blame someone for the situation. I think the umpire's mistake might have been to accept the challenge after the point was over at least to his mind which is irrelevant as to who actually won the point.

No matter what the call is, the fact is Nishikori won the point either way. The umpire made the right decision that there’s no need to replay the point. If it’s out Nishikori won the point; if it’s in he won the point, too. Busta really lost the point and the match at that point because he lost his mental cool. If he accepted the call, the story might be different. Let’s enjoy the game and learn something from it.

You're wrong! if the line judge called wrongly out, and the umpire accepts the challenge, if the ball is in, they MUST replay the point. It doesn't matter that Busta was out of game or Nishikori hit the ball in, these are the rules...the umpire was wrong in this case, cause the challenge was accepted and the ball was in, they have must be replayed the point, even if this wouldn't have been fair to Nishikori, the mess has been done by the line judge, but these wrong calls happens and are part of tennis. Repeating my comments as a reply to his comment but I thought I can also share here some insights in the main page. Interesting view points. I think the problem here though, is that while the call is made as Kei is playing the point (it is mighty close, and people can say slow it down and what not, but on the court it would have been at the exact same time anyway), Pablo is already running away from the point and had made no attempts to come back from the ball even before the call was made. Therefore, he had and would have lost the point regardless of whether Hawk-eye ruled that it was in or not since it would not have affected the outcome of the point regardless. I think that was how the umpire made the conclusion that the point goes to Kei. I do believe that the outcome of the call would be very different if Pablo’s momentum was towards the ball or made attempts to reach back for the ball. If he did that, then I think your argument holds true and point must be replayed. THAT BEING SAID, honestly I think this is more a problem of the ruling instead of the umpire. If I am not mistaken, the ruling dictates that the umpire must make a judgment as to whether the player had any chance of retrieving the ball had the call been made differently. If they amended the rule to say that in all circumstances, where calls are made incorrectly and challenged correctly, all points must be replayed regardless, we wouldn’t have so many arguments and debates. On the point around allowing Pablo to challenge the call regardless, I think the umpire had explained to Pablo that regardless of the outcome he will lose the point, but Pablo did not rescind his challenge at that point (of course he was in argument over other matters). Unfortunately I don’t think umpire has the authority to NOT allow the challenge to take place, no matter how ridiculous it is. That decision is entirely in the hands of the player.

Kei obviously hit the unreturnable winner at the same time the call was made making the out call irrelevant unless it somehow affected Carreno's ability to return Kei's shot, which of course it didn't. So the ump's decision was correct and a replay would be an underserved windfall for Carreno. Great match by Correno which he let slip away with misplaced anger.

Surely so called professionals MUST reign in their anger in public. I know it's the heat of the moment but shouldn't this be addressed in training? I do let off steam myself when playing Badminton but given that I am in my 70s I've learned to do this hopefully in an amusing - not aggressive- way! Anyway, good match.

To Dear Dominic Leroy. P. HINDRANCE 1. Hindrance by Officials a. If the call is corrected from “Out” to “Good”, then a Let must be played ”unless the Chair Umpire in his/her sole judgment determines that it was a clear ace or a clear winning shot that the player could not possibly have retrieved”. If there is any reasonable possibility that such a ball could have been played, then the player must be given the benefit of the doubt. In this case, according to above a : "the Chair Umpire in his sole judgment determines that it was a very clear Nishikori's winning shot that the player PCB could not absolutely have retrieved”, so a Let mustn't be played. This one is really tough, 99% of the time it's pretty clear for me who's in the right or wrong! By the time Kei makes contact with the ball a fraction of a second later the line's man calls OUT. 1 thing is clear the OUT call did NOT hinder Carreno since he was running the other way! Both outcomes are possible here, the Umpire could've played LET or give the point to the opponent and he choose the latter! IF the ball was OUT he would've given the point to Kei anyway, so it should only be fair IF the ball is in that there should be a LET!

@@msalvs The linesman called OUT so PBC has the right to challenge that call and he was right the ball was IN so there should've been a LET. How could anyone make the argument that point should be replayed? Not only did the call come AFTER Kei hit the ball, but it also came AFTER Carreno committed to a full sprint to try to cover a cross court shot, when Kei ended up hitting one down the line. He was no way, call or not, he could've physically returned that shot because he was in a sprint in the wrong direction before the ball was even hit. That was a good decision by the umpire.
