I'll never understand how people can be so cruel to one another, especially people who are just trying to love them. 16 years hit home because that's how long I was with my wife before she began an affair with a 24 year old, and ultimately chose the unemployed, seldom-bathing, disrespectful, arrogant manchild over the man who had set aside his own goals to raise her kids, working 65 hour weeks for years to do so, and then poured his life savings into kick-starting her dreams. It's been 5 months since she officially ended things with me pathetically trying to hold on, and three months since I finally got the courage to move away, leaving the life I built in the oil-stained hands of a boy who's done nothing to deserve it. I've obviously been through a lot, but I was never afraid of her. I can't imagine what you had to deal with, and I hope you have found real happiness now. I hope the kids have come to terms with what's happened and don't blame you for any of it. I hope he has gotten some help so he isn't doing the same awful things to someone else, or that he's just all alone in the world now, reaping what he's sown.
