He's making a lot of jokes about being ugly, it makes me feel bad for him, especially as he got addicted to plastic surgery later on. He's quirky but he's not ugly, and he's got a fun personality and a lot of energy. Honestly his material isn't as bad as people joked about back in the day, it goes so quickly so if there is a dud its over and then you get a good one, plus he embraces the cheesiness of his act which makes it work.

i think his routine goes over a lot of peoples heads. they find him insufferable but even he knows not all of his gags get laughs but it's not the point. It's like watching a bizzaro wacky inventor and pitching new ideas to his boss. sometimes it's funny, some time's it's lame but no one else would have come up with these props. it's like you take the bad jokes with the good jokes as part of a whole. i personally enjoy his shtick. always get at least a hearty chuckle out of it
