1) super interesting comparison. 2) I know you didn’t discover this, but I’m willing to bet you’re the first to cover it in that level of detail and with video clips to back it up in this format. 3) I really respect that you explained the elements that do NOT match at the end. Shows a healthy objectivity, and KZbin incentivizes polarization and strong black&white statements so much that seeing someone point out the gray is pretty refreshing.

I’ve heard about this claim before from other creators, but I never realized just how close these two movies are in terms of plot structure. So with this in mind, yeah I can understand why many people don’t like the original Cars movie. But that still doesn’t change the fact that I love the movie for personal reasons. Besides, Doc Hollywood’s story in it of itself isn’t unique. There are lots of other stories before and after it that have the same general premise and plot.

This is exactly what happened to me when I first saw Doc Hollywood years after seeing Cars. It was nearly immediate. I don't know why they didn't just say that they adapted it from the same book Doc Hollywood was adapted from. It couldn't have been too hard for Disney to get the rights to basically do an animated remake, but whatever.

I Got to say that u are REACHING SOOOOO FAR with this one. Very few things are similar, and there are only some coincidental similarities and only if u try hard to see them. And it is funny how so many comments say either "i knew it" or "wow u are right" even when it is clear that you try hard to make comparisons, to make ur theory stick together. I am sure there are many movies u can compare to cars and say "yeaah i guess they are similar"

I haven't seen either of these films. The only reason I searched for this was that I was reminded of an event around 2011-12. This guy I worked with ,who I rarely ever heard speak, we were sitting in the break room. And there's mostly calm and silence. All of a sudden, this guy just blurts out, "Cars is a ripoff of Doc Hollywood." He wasn't speaking to any of us in particular. He went on a 5 min rant and was truly upset about the plagiarism. Never heard him speak much after that. And now I can finally validate my former coworker.

Honestly, every Pixar movie steals some previous ideas but does there own unique thing with it very well which is what makes the movies great. With that being said, I wouldn’t go as far as calling other Pixar movies ripoffs (other than maybe A Bug’s Life), but this one does seem to be a ripoff of Doc Hollywood. Ripoff or not though, this was my favorite childhood film and I still love it to this day.

Before watching the video, I'll say Cars doesn't have much original in it. The basic plot is pretty much what you see in movies like Doc Hollywood, Sweet Home Alabama, etc. Even the 80's movie, Take This Job And Shove It did this. As for the anthropomorphizing of vehicles, that's not new either. I remember an old short where a taxi cab has a son that wants to be a hot rod. However, reusing concepts is older than Hollywood and doesn't constitute a ripoff.

Apparently this video has false information and the internet has false information about it too so do not listen to all of the articles about it and do not watch this video because this video has misinformation. When I saw this title, I was hoping it'd be about Graham Base's excellent book "Truckdogs", set in a small town in a large desert that's "remarkably similar to outback Australia" (he's an Australian author - the US desert wasn't a likely setting) where evolution has taken an unexpected turn - and all the characters look like Car/Dog hybrids (along with various other vehicle options - Bullworth, for example, is a Bulldog/Bulldozer, and a loveable real softie). That said, the story itself doesn't have all that many similarities with Cars (it's the local pups vs. a roving gang that likes to take all the Petrol (Gas for those in the US) of the towns they pass by before heading out, leaving them dry), and the case for it being a ripoff would be more along the lines of Graham Base did "Living Cars in a small desert town" first.
