Maybe they did explode, but not as much. They probably released just as many rads though. There are probably a lot of parts of the cars that don't work anymore, and they probably don't have any coolant in them, but we know that coolant was something there were stations to fill up your car with. Maybe they are safer when they have coolant in them, and all we're doing when damaging them is kickstarting the fusion reactor.

I love the cars if fallout. The only problem I have with them is the amount of glass. I live in the south, I would cook under that much sun. Maybe tint the windows?
@hazcat640
@hazcat640 Жыл бұрын
Cherry Bomb is very likely a reference to early 'glass pack' mufflers that were designed to add a loud yet throaty sound to the exhaust. Cherry Bombs and Thrush were two of the most popular brands. This was in the early sixties and they may have been around in the late 50s. Side exhaust pipes are more commonly called "Lake Pipes". They were used so that the vehicle could be as low to the ground as possible for speed runs. These runs happened on dry lake beds like the Salt Lakes so they were called lake pipes.
@Milner62
@Milner62 Жыл бұрын
Cherry bomb wasn't the first glass pack style muffler, in the 1950s there was the Smithy glass pack mufflers which was quite popular. Cherry bomb stole the popularity in the 1960s and became like Kleenex got popular and is now what everyone calls tissues.

@@twistedyogert Since 1935, Bonneville’s been one of the primary venues for land speed record attempts, with most land speed records recorded between 1935 and 1970 set there. The flats were first recognized for their potential as a speed-testing ground by Bill Rishel, who in 1896 had cycled across the area to win a competition run by the newspaper publisher William Randolph Hearst.

Happens the same with taxis, I remember in the good old days of fallout 3 forums people sayed that there where no tanks because the almighy power armor make heavy Tonks able to carry 120 mm cannons obsolete (when the heaviest thing carried by a power armor its a 50 cal or a fatman) but the thing that remains with me its that: Don't worry if we don't see taxis, firetrucks only in nv and 76 police cars, civilian passenger trains... its all because people used power armors. Nah just kidding I thing the concepts always look cool but at the time of modeling stuff and inplementing that on the world map somethings are not well implemented or had enough time at the hands of the guy making the textures or watever when he has to texturize also the prydwen liberty prime, other cars and vehicles.. So in my mind its because of that, but yep that police car its just too beautiful to be forgotten.
@daaa3932
@daaa3932 Жыл бұрын
This is well done. The only comment I can think of is on the Police Car - that wasn't a spotlight, but an air-driven Siren. The spotlights would be on the doors to be controlled from the inside. Hood and fender-mounted Sirens were used in the 1950's, some mounting additional lights.

17:58 As a car guy and someone who's been following the lore closely for the last 20 or so years I'd like to know when we all decided to say that the Corvega was no longer a model made by Chryslus as it shows in the commercial, with different individual varying year models and sub models, but suddenly became its own sub brand. The video refers to the "sedan" 3d model as a Highwayman at 8:34 when its half buried as the Fallout 2 easter egg in New Vegas, but then calls the same 3d model a Corvega at 16:49. It can't be both and the devs already made it clear its a Highwayman made by Chryslus. Which in turn makes it clear that not every vehicle sporting the Chevron is part of any potential Corvega sub brand. I'd like to know where the names of these cars are officially listed in the lore or by the devs, and not just some copy paste wiki because I'm starting to think fans are just pulling the names out of thin air like they did with the "Atomic V8" misunderstanding. At 20:35 I honestly thought it was common knowledge in the Fallout community now that the Blitz was based heavily on the Desoto Adventurer 2 concept car. Also I know it was just a joke but the comment at 30:52 is peak car noob drivel. The guys who say that kind of stuff are always the kind of guys who can't speed shift a manual transmission to save their life and don't realize that a properly tuned automatic is superior at everything but roll starting which is why they are the top choice in the virtually all serious racing classes.

About the stick in the Cherry Bomb. One of the Firebird turbine powered cars (I forget which) had a joystick beside the driver's seat. You pushed it forward to acclerate, pulled back to brake and tilted it left/right for steering. So that's another design cue that Fallout 4 may have taken from those vehicles.

I'd argue the explosive nature of cars in Fallout is likely due to decades (more accurately, centuries) of lack of upkeep and repairs. I would assume that the fusion reactors become unstable as time goes on without mechanical maintenance or coolant replacement, because frankly if they did this prewar, a single pileup collision on an interstate could lead to a chain reaction that could wipe out an entire major city

When it comes to the Highwayman, it seems like everyone goes on about '57-'58 Plymouth Belvederes, and Furys, and the iconic 1957 Chevy Bel-Air, but if you look at the in game sprite it is much closer to the 1958 Chysler Imperial. The answer to the cherry bombs claim is simple. Thrust SST does not exist in the Fallout setting, since they clearly had issues with any kind of microprocessors and it seriously delayed many technological developments. Much like a certain Boston team refused any use of their trademarks to Bethesda, and never won a world series... they were set to sweep one once, but the 4th game, which they were a shoo-in to win, was scheduled for the afternoon of October 23, 2077

Yeah, about the Cherry Bomb/Rocket 69, the Thrust SSC is not a car, so Chryslus' claim is correct. Also, its thin tyres remind me of speed-record wheels made almost entirely of aluminium. Those chrome bits with the headlights and taillights make me think of a nuclear motorjet, a jet whose intake is driven by an engine, in thise case the "Atomic V8" that Chryslus was so proud of, and the bulk of all its thrust comes from dumping the heat the fusion cells generate into the incoming airstream to superheat it and drive it out the two exhaust/taillights as thrust. So that would be why it can reach such speeds, and if it crouches down at speed to keep itself grounded with mostly solid large thin wheels then the vehicle is like a knife cutting through the air, with the only areas that drag could be a problem being covered by the intakes sucking in so much air that there's a vacuum in front of the intakes, and the car crouching to reduce the wheels' drag.

I just want to tell you that the Corvega Blitz Coupe is not inspired from the oldsmobille golden rocket concept car, but from the 1954 DeSoto Adventure II, the Zip is inspired from the 1942 Oeuf Electrique, the Fallout 3 Corvega sedan is inspired (in my opinion) from the 1959 Soviet GAZ M13 Chaika or ZIL 111 or 1956 Packard Carribian (the car from wich GAZ and ZIL were inspired) and also Fallout 3's Corvega atomic V8's front in my opinion is inspired from a mid 50' cadillac and the rear from the GM LeSaber, but anyways the video is great, you really made a young boy happy and I can't wait for the part2 !!!🤩🤩🤩

I will never stop being pissed about the fact that Bethesda doesn't at least acknowledge that cars are still workable and they exist, even if not shown in the game. In Fallout 2 while you can own a car, there are mechanics, shops and parking lots in many locations meaning more people use cars. In New Vegas it is implied the NCR uses vehicles extensively, even in McCarran you can find what looks like a small repair shop for a military truck. But on the East Coast, Beth just made everyone oblivious to cars and vehicles because their engine cannot support them, despite it not beint necessary to show them at least mention them.

From what ive read its implied there is some working cars in FO76 or something as one of the raider gangs is trying to fix up a limo for its leader or something like that but i dont remember exactly as it was on the wiki somewhere and theres also that big garage under a town too Realistically i wonder how common vehicles would be in the fallout universe on the east coast, i imagine in the commonwealth the BOS wouldent have an endless supply of vertibirds like in game and would probably have to make do with repairing the APC's and trucks to move around given there is only so many vertibirds they can have on the airship so if they lose one its a major blow while there are tons of land vehicles to scavenge or build something custom from.

Bethesda doesn't want to add mention of working vehicles when their engine can't handle them. And they also don't want to do glorified fast travel using a fake vehicle.

I was always under the impression the east coast was bombed way more than the west coast. With the jet stream the nuclear fallout would be pushed west to east. On the west coast you still have major cities around like LA and San Fran, while DC and Pittsburg are talked about being totally lost

I went to a car show for the first time with my dad a couple years ago. There were loads of classic cars from all different eras, and one thing I noticed about the kind of cars that inspired the ones found in Fallout was how freaking HUGE they all were. Seriously, some of the regular sedans I saw there were as long and as wide as a camping trailer. At least the American cars were, which makes sense given how car-crazy American culture was becoming in those days. They were lovely looking vehicles nonetheless, but I would not want to drive one.

Must have been looking at the late 60s through the 70s vehicles at the show. The 1950s cars were not that big in size, the 1960s saw an enlargement but still were modest in size, the 1970s is when the land yatchs came out and were huge. My '78 Cougar XR7 midsize front bumper to rear bumper is right at 20 feet long. My '63 Belair fullsize bumper to bumper is 18 feet long. My '56 Fairlane fullsize bumper to bumper is 15 feet long. This is why my '56 fits in the garage of my house built in '56 but my '63 won't fit and my '78 won't even let you partially close the garage door.

Y'know, considering how many people were tinkering with power armor throughout the series, I'm really surprised that nobody in canon decided to use the powerplant from the fusion-flea or zip to build some massive power/mech at some point. It could even just be the "wastelander" equivalent to military power armor, just as tough but bulkier and less efficient.

Look. The tec boom did not happen till the 2050s instead of the 1970s, and in the 2030s/40s the government took pver media and radio, and i can see them pressing the golden age for america alot which was the 1950s/60s. So alot of things from the era would be pushed more. Also taking into account gas engines were still a thing and tec did not change till the 2050s/60s, so older models would still be in use and retrofitted to use atomic power. So one could argue that those older cars are from the time given just retrofitted to be usable. :)

As for the older cars, the ones seemingly from the 30's, you need to think of it in terms of what would still be working after EMP's. Those older cars would and likely had been in use for quite some time prior to the dweller exiting the vault. But, with them being older, the parts to keep them going properly would eventually run out as well whereas the newer ones such as the highway man would likely use at least similar enough comparable parts that they could be swapped out provided telhe cars hadn't been fried when the bombs dropped. As far as bumpers, what about the bumper swords you see in New Vegas? They came off of cars or trucks and are a decent enough example of people scavenging things off useless cars. It's metal. Also the cars you see in the walls, I wonder, would assume that they were also models that wouldn't explode or that those parts had been stripped.

You'd think that seeing someone zip by in a comfy car would inspire others to fix cars, starting a chain reaction. It's been 200 years, there should be cars and unpaved (but flat) roads everywhere.
@Someguy6571
@Someguy6571 Жыл бұрын
How would there be cars and roads made? All the equipment needed to haul material and move it has been destroyed. I mean guns and small arms is one thing, but large complex vehicles is an entirely different thing all together. If anything only the Brotherhood or Enclave would have any real access to vehicles since they still pilot and maintain vertibirds. Vehicles would just get fought over and probably destroyed due to their rarity.
@Voltaic_Fire
@Voltaic_Fire Жыл бұрын
@@Someguy6571 Made? No. I said "fix" cars, like the Highwayman, there's no shortage of parts and curiosity. As for roads, dirt roads like I said, you simply remove obstacles and debris along the intended route then drive over it repeatedly until a road forms. Surely you've seen dirt roads and paths before?
@dragonbornexpress5650
@dragonbornexpress5650 Жыл бұрын
@@Voltaic_Fire. This reply seems ignorant. 1: Have you even seen a car made for the roads try to drive across dirt? It looks stupid AND slows you down dramatically. 2: The parts and curiosity is there, but there isn't exactly the funding or knowledge to do so. Cars are NOT easy to fix and never have been; It requires a lot of tools, patience, and tolerance for dangerous liquids. (or, in the case of Fallout, LOTS of radiation.) If you think most people would risk their lives trying to fix a machine they have no idea what it even does over simply scrapping it for parts, you've had way too much Jet.

i think a lot of the speed stats are likely half truths given how lax marketing laws are in fallouts America. Like they might have got a heavily modded one to go that fast but my guess is production models are a lot slower or least you can never drive them at anything close to those speeds without getting a massive speeding fine.

Perhaps the Cherry Bomb was supposed to be marketed towards potential fighter pilots for WW3? As it had a joystick and could apparently go supersonic. The US military in the fallout series are known to use strange tactics to select potential soldiers so it might not be a stretch.

28:21 That Car reminds a mix of a Ford Roadster 1932 and the rear maybe from a Bugatti Type 57, because of the way the column goes straight from the back to the top of the roof. Also, the other one at 28:28 reminds me of the 1925 Rolls Royce Phantom, mainly the wide fenders with the doors being "inside" and overall lines. Even being a car guy, im not good with older cars, being better with something above 80s, but i tried my best to find some match
