Guys like Derek with the knowledge he has are few and far between nowadays, there are people who "think" they know then there are the people that really do, not saying he gets every single fact right, but he's probably forgotten more than many of us know anyway 😂

I think the mk5 Cortina had different Front indicators and Fluted rear lights also, the Crusader versions were the limited edition, and were the last run-out models before they were axed as the Sierra was out on the same reg. A friend of mine who was an engineer at Dagenham where they were built bought one of the last ones, put gallons of waxoyl in it, under it and over it but was still annoyed when the bottoms of the doors rusted through from the inside, and it wasn’t that old when this started.

I had the misfortune to have a company car, a Mk IVa Cortina, total bag of shite, cam shaft 25K miles, clutch at the same time, breaks adequate, leaked water, a pudddle in passenger foot well. Door cards were so thin the acoustics were poor inside when fitting speakers. Very lively rear end , found out when I unloaded the boot one weekend, my old VW beetle on crossply tyres was safer in a bend. Eventually replaced the Cortina with a front wheel drive Escort estate, 0.2 sec to 60 mph slower than the XR3.. As for the brown Cortina "You can not polish a turd". Sorry Derek.

Looking at the 240Z I think it probably was a UK car all it’s life, right hand drive and old tax disc. But I understand that as you say there are loads of them sold in the US as they were cheap cars at the time. Your right there was of course a mark v Cortina we had one called a Crusader 👍

Also under the hood (Bonnet) looks like a pair of SU Carbs, (I could be wrong, but didn't Datsun originally fit "Nikki " Carbs to their cars. Derek was saying the yanks had these & we had the Capri, i know which one was the better of the two in my opinion, & i wouldn't have been the "Dagenham Dustbins". Again I personally never rated the Capri, the 1600E in my opinion was far superior, Even the Savage with the 3 litre Engine, & of course the twin Cams. but again personal opinion.

Someone else here said it was first UK registered in 2010. I’m guessing it was South African. I’ve got the most original RHD Alfasud Ti from the Kalahari Desert, and as long as it doesn’t come from Durban, massive rainfall and on the coast, SA cars might be a bit neglected mechanically, but body is usually very good

What? No way, had a Capri ll 2.0 S and loved it except when the roads were wet of course. Unless we’re talking MK1 or even MK2 Lotus Cortina then you are 100% correct. This will make you laugh (still makes me cry) I was offered a 1965 MK1 in 1968 for around £200 but as I was still an apprentice turned it down 😩😢
