How awesome would it be if a car manufacturer had the balls enough to put out a street legal tiny car that came factory with a screaming 1200cc inline 4 with a sequential gear box in it. Oh and didn’t cost a fortune.

I wouldn't imagine the bottom ends of these motors are made for the constant stress and load of the weight of the chassis compared to bike frame. Those engines are on the knifes edge of performance making a good bit of internal stress let alone the outside stresses. Still cool, just don't see these swaps lasting long.

if the cars are on the lighter side, near 1200Lbs or less, I dont think it's much of an issue, however you do need to make sure to modify the oil pan, becasue they're made to always have oil at the bottom and not sloshing around.

@Nick Lo weight only translates to higher accelaration, aerodynamics translate to higher topspeed
@michaelcarr47484 жыл бұрын
Depends on weight, air resistance, and gearing. I would wager not. The Hayabusa is alot light and therefore doesn't need to sacrifice as much gear reduction for torque sufficient to move itself. The car on the other hand, may very well stall if it has tall gears.
@michaelcarr47484 жыл бұрын
@@Spherz Not necessarily. There are limitations based on how much mass you plan to accelerate to a particular speed. Consider that Mercedes built the Silver Arrow in the 1930's and broke over 249mph... The Bugatti Veyron which weighs a hell of alot more, required roughly double the power to set the "street-legal production car" landspeed record at 267mph. So unfortunately aero is not the only limitation.

@EatMyYeeties5 жыл бұрын
It uses what are called dog tooth gears. Essentially, instead of a normal transmission which use synchro gears to make the different output gears match speed before initiating the gear shift (hence the need for a clutch press to change gears), it uses little teeth that stick out of the face of the gears to force the gears to mesh and output. Its almost instantaneous, and since you dont need to use synchros, it doesnt need the clutch to change gears. You can just relieve tension by letting out of the gas slamming the gear in.

@timmyers38495 жыл бұрын
Not only are the virtually the same. Most of them are smaller' lighter' and produce the same or more horsepower then the average car today. I have a 02 hayabusa stock that makes 175 hp (1.3l) where my 2016 Ford Focus makes 160 hp(2.0l). That focus is heavy like 3000 lbs. Where a hayabusa is around 500 lbs. Now a days most liter bikes make close to 200 hp (1.0l). Biggest challenge for putting a bike motor into a car is changing the car (which is shaft driven) to chain driven.
