Its commonly known, that a Saab 9000 when hitting 150mph, the front undertray would just remove itself. Does that count as active Aero ?. lol

Paul Taylor - That made me think of the rear bumpers on the MK1 facelift Mondeo's. On the motorways at 70/80mph you often see them going past with the bottom of the bumpers flapping so hard I'm amazed they don't just rip right off. :)

@lpaulauskas19906 жыл бұрын
I don't think the cars on your list qualifies for what we mean by "active aero" nowadays or certainly in super and hyper car world. One thing is to have "dumb" switch which would extend spoiler or lip after clicking it or at set speed increments without considering other aspects. I would call it "adjustabe aero" at best, it is not "active" by any means. What "active aero" means is that car calculates multiple variables like speed, angle of steering wheels, G-forces .. heck some of them consider crosswinds etc. and would make precise adjustments to help you steer it or brake more efficiently, it can shift car grip balance from rear to front, from side to side etc. - that makes it active. Retracting front lip is not "active", you turn it on it stay on, or it extends at 50MPH and it stays extended until your speed drops below 50MPH even if in certain circumstances it has no benefit for your driving conditions. I guess the defining line is the number of aspects computer calculates before adjusting aero set-up. If it only calculates speed and only has few setting to increase downforce in straight line that is "dumb aero", if it calculates multiple different aspects and can shift car balance, aid in cornering, linearly increase downforce, control all for corners independently and act as airbrake - that is active then.
