I was comparing the same two models a few months ago and ended up buying the CX-5 akrea G35 also in this polymetal grey color, absolutely loving it, glad I made the right choice 😄

This is a very good comparison of two excellent cars! Some additional thoughts: 1) The CX-60 G40e Evolve is currently $56.99k driveaway. With the $4k luxury pack (including real leather and full Vision Package with touchscreen), it's $61k. There are no other cars at this price point with a 6 cylinder engine. 2) The CX5 G35 Akera is currently $55.648k driveaway. If you forego the turbo power, it's only $53k. A bargain... 3) You said the CX-60 PHEV is close to $90k. Mazda's online configurator has it as $70k driveaway. 4) The CX-60 rear-seat space is handy if you need rear-racing child seats. The CX-5 requires that the front seat be moved forward. Also, The CX-5 payload capacity is 445kg and the CX-60 is 579kg.

I'm interested in RWD CX-60 price leader. 6 cylinders and RWD no one else offers that in Australia.

These are limited time promotional offers, but you make a good point. If you see discounts like this, it's worth doing the math to see if they will save you money.

My wife is looking to trade her 2017 CX5 on either a new CX5 or CX60, my daughter is looking to replace her CX3 in on a CX30, but I will keep my 2012 manual 6 Luxury Sports hatch a while longer as it seems Mazda has dropped the 6, all have been incredibly reliable and satisfying cars to own.

Agreed. Still a very competent and compelling product.

For me, it's the CX5 i don't like the 48-volt mild hybrid or the clutch in the transmission in the CX 60. If it had no mild hybrid and a torque converter auto, it would be a winner. 😊
@billybob1511Ай бұрын
I agree 100%

The auto in the CX-60/-70/-80/-90 is not a single-clutch automatic in the traditional sense (Alfa Selespeed for example). It’s the same setup as AMG’s Speedshift MCT. The gearbox itself is the same inside as a torque converter auto (planetary gear sets), but in place of a torque converter it has a multi-plate wet-clutch. The clutch is only used when stationary, during take-off and very low speed manoeuvring, at all other times it is fully engaged.
@carsalesАй бұрын
Good point, but for many potential owners it will be a moot point. The fact is the gearbox needs finessing and more fine-tuning.

Probably the next update of CX-60 is worth waiting to fully iron out its suspension/transmission issues reported
@carsalesАй бұрын
Yep, fair call. The foundations are there for a genuinely premium-feeling six-cylinder cruiser. Just needs a few crucial tweaks.
@davidrome6066Ай бұрын
Single owner the CX5 fits perfectly but for that roar six cylinder I think I'd go that extra room, with the vision pack.

The cx-60 needs further refinement. I love the 6 cyl diesel option, but the rest of the car needs to match the potential of the new engine.

Rearward visibility in Australia is over-hyped. What’s it for? To see the tailgater behind?

Here in Finland, the inline 6 gasoline CX-60 is not available. I drove a 2024 CX-60 plug in. The suspension is too bouncy. The transition from the gasoline engine and full electric is definitely not smooth, as the transmission is jerky. It’s a beautiful SUV, but OMG, the transmission, suspension, and first generation hybrid system need to be massively refined.

I'm really happy with this price point comparison, we are looking to replace my wife's 2017 CX-5 with either of these 2 cars reviewed trim levels, had been leaning towards the CX-5 again but a CX-60 with its issues ironed out and an IL6 makes a compelling argument...

@@John451vfr I own a CX-60 PHEV mainly the because the tax code is making the Inline 6 50% more expensive. As it happens with completely new platforms there where some issues although they Neve stranded me. After 2 recalls fixing dumpers, as pump from the hybrid system and a software update on the transmission at the ver beginning I am very happy with the car at 40K travelled. Of course if you want to safe on gas only a home charger will do the magic. Still for long trips a inline 6 is unbeatable.

Subaru have this driver monitoring feature in their cars and its incredibly intrusive if you happen to look at anything other than whats directly in front you. If Mazda's are the same format, its a no from me. If they had a function permanently disable this feature rather than having to navigate a menu to turn it off ever time you get back in the car, I think it would sway more people over.
