Someone made a valid point about the engine you took the piston out of won't be balanced on the crank and I think that's probably where most of the vibrations are coming from more than engine's being out of sync. I thought about one way bearings on both gears from the engines so they aren't fighting each other also. I would do that and balance the crank on the bottom end of the other engine and it should purr like a kitten afterwards 👍❤️💛💚

I needed a good laugh today and by golly you came through as always. Charles and Ike really put on a show at the end. Hey Ike, if those changes do not have o rings, I have an old trick for you. When we raced back in the 70's and used non o ring chains, we put the chain in a pan with bearing grease and heated it 'till the grease became thin enough to seep in between the rollers and pins. When the chain and grease cooled down, the grease became viscous again and remained inside the chain where it's needed. It will work on your Ebay chains if non orange and will extend the life of them considerably.

With the amount of movement we can see on video of the jack shaft I'd put my bets on that being the problem for throwing chains. Shorten that shaft and run duel slipper clutches so you get power from both engines while getting the most out of each one. If the engines where built to exact specs then tieing them together would work but if they were built differently and tied they will fight against each other.

I'm thinking a 420 or even a 670, and then make your own jack shaft to put in place of the old atv engine crankshaft. Just to get that wobble out. And maybe even double chain between the engine and trans. I feel like that would simplify the drive train issues and make it more dependable , as long as that articat trans and axle holds up. But love this series guys. Keep em coming.
@RC_Trailblazers Жыл бұрын
Yeah they can run a 440 duromax and actually get a motorcycle 550 sprocket and match up to the stock sprocket on the axle of the kandi kart. Bottom end is a little gutless but it pulls pretty hard top end with the gearing. A separate jackshaft and additional gearing could definitely help with some more of that bottom end grunt.

@Rattus-Norvegicus Жыл бұрын
@@TestECull I didn't say to eliminate the transmission, just one engine. Anyone with experience will tell you, syncing 2 engines is difficult at best, disastrous at worst. I'm fairly certain you could get a 4 banger to fit in the same space as those 2 thumpers. or a v twin, or a dirtbike thumper or a 2 cylinder or a 3 cylinder. all would work way better than trying to link 2 small engines.
@Hurtydwarf Жыл бұрын
I think part of the fun of this channel is they always make weird ideas like this work. Sure they could go the easy route that everyone else has done and just stick a regular engine in there, but how many people out there have linked 2 engines to a cobbled together transmission and made it work? Not many.
@MayheM_72 Жыл бұрын
1st of all, getting the 2 engines synced is HARD. 2nd, I'm sure the vibration is due to the input shaft on the trans being a crankshaft that is counterweighted for the rob and piston. On a totally different note, you guys have messed around with the big block engines (301, 420, etc) lately. With your additional experience, you could probably built a SWEET moon tune motor.

I have 3 suggestions 1: invest in a good x-ring motorcycle chain, #420 is what I use. They may be $40, but it's worth it because they won't break so easy. 2: definitely make sure that jackshaft is straight and has enough bearing support. Any kind of warp in a jackshaft that long will cause you to throw chains every time. Trust me on this one, I run an 8 speed motorized bicycle and I have to get the chain alignment exactly right or else one binds with another as I shift, or I throw either my 1/2x1/8 or my #420 chains. It's not fun getting slapped in the leg by a chain rolling at 4300rpm. 3: no matter what happens, persevere. You guys have always had a knack for these things, and you just keep getting better. Keep up the good work boys, I'm able to live vicariously through your projects.

Remove the crankshaft in the "Transaxle". That is spinning with no piston/rod weight. No compression, and no powerstroke. Yet still has the counter weights. It should be a straight shaft. Just cut the drive side off of the other end of the crankshaft and weld it to a straight shaft. You already did most of the work.

If the two engine setup is too much trouble, I would love to see this go kart with a single 670 or built 420. I think one issue might be that the short length of chain is going around two tight bends and heating up. Nice O ring chain might do better. It really needs two identical engines firing exactly 360 degrees apart, or alternatively both engines having centrifugal clutches (would lose electric start but could be started individually) to prevent them fighting each other. As others have said, the counterweight on the transmission crankshaft is probably also causing mega vibrations. One could use the lathe to make a straight jackshaft that rides on the main bearings and seals from that crankcase.
@nicksteele1706 Жыл бұрын
I don't think it has to do to much with the engines being timed out of each other I think it's cause that rod is still in the atv engine that's really doing all the damage and making it vibrate like crazy along with that really loud knocking sound that makes it all sound like it's gonna blow up

Just out of interest. Did you remove the crank shaft, and replace it with a mechined and turned straight shaft? Or did you just remove the piston and cut off the con rod? If you did the latter, the counter weights on the crank will now put the crank out of ballance because the original engine/gear box was a single cylinder engine. The remaining counter weights on the crank will put the whole thing out off balance causing a lot of vibration.
@Toolness1 Жыл бұрын
Man I hope you can finish this project somehow. Maybe dump the twin engine setup and go for one powerful engine. Where's that 600 from the scooter? No clue if that could be made to work or not. That's why most of these go-karts have dual chains on them because a single chain can't take the torque you got two motors that are fighting against each other so each motor needs to have dual Chainz coming off of it.

If you drill a second set screw on the opposite side of the sprocket apply red locktite and leave the keys long enough to weld them to the shaft. Also, you can bolt on blocks of oak with slots ground in to keep the chains from slapping. Oil the chains well until the chains wear into the wood and the chains are seated and running on the rollers can help allot once they are worn in the chain slap is minimized. It should eliminate most of your problems. Using belts on parts of your drive would eliminate vibration only getting the belts wet may be a problem. Also rubber pads under the engines can help with vibration if not over tightened.

I think this will prevent that chain from popping each time. Then, what’s the next part of the driveline to fail? I saw you had a few problems as the engines were of different make/ and models. What about running 2x tillotson engines that are similar in build/specs with a shaft linking both engines together at 180* would be a better build. Great shows, keep it up guys. 👍👍
