I’ve always wondered what the limits of the pump-style engines are and a dog box transmissions is definitely the key to that. If I have the time, money and knowledge I’d love to make a proper transmission setup for one using the gearset from an atv or something and probably a custom crankcase cover/transmission housing system

Funny that I did this exact same thing back in the early 2000’s when I was 16. Used a kx80 motor and a 10hp Briggs powering it. But I did a direct drive to the transmission and used its clutch. Also it worked out great having an up and down gear shift on my left side. All in a big off-road kart with 4 wheeler rear tires.
@mrpopps63222 жыл бұрын
Would love to drivee that one. Back in the mid 60's I had a go kart that had a little 3 1/2 horse Briggs. Straight drive, no brakes. My dad paced me in the 61 Rambler at about 67 MPH, man I loved that thing.

Dump the clutch and do a burnski 🔥🔥
@mistermacgray2 жыл бұрын
@Jt101c with a 25hp engine, it will "clutch dump" with the clutch it has now. But also a clutch dump will put alot of shock on the system and the current engine drove to the stator wheel they welded the sprocket too, the woodruff key amd the end of the crankshaft is the weak point and not made to be taking such loads. We shall see how things hold up but over all this is a very cool mad max setup happening.

I know before welding on a propane tank you fill it up with water then drain it, could just remove the fuel tank if your worried. But boys will be boys. Had to put flares on my driving rig because one it's the law and two it cut down on my side mirrors getting dirty.

Love the channel, been watching for years. I've got a challenge for you. I've been wandering about the performance difference between a motorcycle 6spd trans and an ATV/snowmobile dual clutch & belt setup. So the challenge is: 2 go carts that are identical except for 1 thing. One has a snowmobile/atv belt driven dual clutch. The other a motorcycle 6spd. Can also play around with different sprockets but other than that, identical. (Obviously different shift linkages, clutch master/slave, etc) Same tires Same frame Same engine (preferably a 600cc or better) Gas tank Etc, etc. Might be easiest to copy an existing shifter kart, and adapt the dual clutch belt setup.

That's how i shift on mine and it's really fast. My wife she has one also and she loves it. Ours is lifted higher about 5 inch's off the ground cause we go trail riding all the time. We can switch from 2 wheel drive to 4 wheel drive easy. But to take it out of 4 wheel drive u gotta back up a few inch's. The youngest son he has his RZR and he loves it. We have one and we go mudding all the time. I had a good friend of mine put a suspension lift kit on it and my wife was like WTH it's higher. She can easy get in and out of it good.

This is probably one of the better concepts fellas. My belief the centrifugal clutch is saving the engine from a certain demise. Once you go direct and try using the clutch it's more likely to break the crank or the rod. With that said and your willing to test it I'm willing to watch. Happy New Year and best of luck 👍
@jonathancrissinger23012 жыл бұрын
That thing definitely needs some fenders, lol. Looking like a blast to ride. Once you have the clutch figured out and don't have the centrifugal clutch, it really going to be wicked.

Here’s an idea for future builds. Make paddle shifters using cable. Run the cable through the chassis to the main shift rod. Run up/down shift cable out either side of a pivot on the rod. Great content. Reminds me of the go kart my brother and I build in the early 80's with a motorcycle engine, before shifter karts were a real thing. Your shift direction of forward upshift would confuse me though. I believe serious race car sequential shifters are usually move back for upshift. I suppose this point is debatable since a lot of modern cars are forward upshift on the manually shifted automatic transmissions. I have a suggestion for you: you seem to have a lot of loose bolts that fall off. Think about implementing a final check list before the first ride to include rechecking all nuts and bolts. And think about using those torque wrenches a little more.
