I need to see an engine race. Draw a big circle in the driveway, put two running engines with race numbers on them in the middle, start them up, and place bets on which will vibrate itself out of the circle first.
It could give new meaning to losing your marbles. (Playing for keeps)

You guys are a crack up. I'm currently undergoing my Briggs and Stratton Master Service Technician courses, I'm a technician at a Brigg's authorized service center. We get these L heads in on some antiques that come in. I can't stand these setups, with the carb bowl in the tank, those carbs are ridiculous. To call this the "last, good running briggs 5hp flathead in existence", is a bit of a stretch, however, you're right about parts availability. I can get most stuff, however those carbs are like hen's teeth. If you can even find one, they're over $130. Kudos to you guys for messin around with em, this is a cool build, but those old L heads are still garbage, lol.

If you have a fairly rigid chassis and you build some castor into the steering it has the effect of jacking up the inside rear tire when you turn the steering wheel. that is what makes a go-cart turn when you have a live rear axle.

Possible solutions for front tire grip: -Wider, stickier front tires. -Lower tire pressure up front, more in the rear. -Bolt a 30-50lb lead weight to the front of the frame somewhere. -Move the rear axle further back, to just outside and behind the tub. This will move your center of gravity further forward, improving front grip.

Shave the head down, use an oversized compression ring and file it to around .010 gap maybe .007, use a 3-1/2 hp Briggs aluminum flywheel and make an adapter for the coil, 3 stage header, get a cam for it or at least reduce the lifter gap to get more lift, nylon or billet oil dipper, tillotson carb. It'll run good!😁🤓

I've said it from the very beginning, That thing needs proper Caster, Camber, and Ackerman set up- then it would steer correctly- it still wouldnt be too hard to fix, and it would drive like a proper kart then, just cut off the spindle hangars and weld them back on with the correct angles in them- it's a death machine the way it is now! if you fix the steering geometry then once you put the seat on it (esp if you move the seat back a few inches, like over the axle) it will drive really good-

you could cure the steering issue by putting 12-15 degrees of caster in the front axle. just cut it loose from the frame and angle it back. that's why the race karts handle so well.

Hy guys! You sould increase the tire pressure on the back. Since it is not a race cart, the slicks are for looks. Does not matter if they have less traction on the back. :) I would advise to decrease the pressure on the front, but there you would loose top speed. With higher pressure, you may reach a higher top speed. :D Getting stoked with this bulid, you guys are crazy, and I like it. Keep it rockin'!

you prolly need to have one of the rearwheels freewheel (put on the axle with a bearing in the hub) to be able to turn sharply the way there now mounted to the solid axle makes them act like a dif with a spool in it it wants to go straight only either that or try to lift one rearwheel when cornering might be fun to put one of those 6 feet long oldfasioned fiberglass CB antenna's on the back with a foxtail , makes you a little more visiable too if you find another little red wagon bucket you can saw it in half and mount it on top of the other bucket over the axle , use it as a seat

Good gut instinct on the spark plug, John. Its been scientifically verified that e3 plugs don't do anything. Spark is only going to jump to one point on the plug, and a good proper gapped plug (of the correct type) is going to be as good as it gets for any engine.
