I've had a Subaru Ascent for 6 years - leased two of them - and I strongly disagree with the reviewers take. It's not too small at all - it's a great size. I have a family of 5 and most people with a three row SUV are putting kids in the third row - it doesn't have to comfortably seat adults, especially not 6 foot tall men. And the first and second rows are plenty comfortable for adults. No way this should rank behind the Pathfinder and Pilot!

Captains chairs are a giant no-go for my family of five for the times when we need to maximize cargo while everyone coming along. That removable middle seat set up is so much more useful. That more than makes up for things like a smaller screen.

Thank you for a comprehensive review of these 3-row SUVs. I am surprised you rated the handling on the Pilot so low? I find the SH-AWD system on the Pilot the most engaging of these SUVS. The steering can be a bit numb, but that is mostly corrected in sport mode. Though I rarely find the need for sport mode. In my experience when you accelerate out of a corner in the other vehicles, you really feel their size and weight. Doing the same in the Pilot allows the torque vectoring AWS to really help manage the heft. I find it also makes a big difference on slick surfaces. The AWD performance on snow, especially when cornering, is a step above the other systems, in my opinion. Many other vehicle journalists have reported similar results. We just got back from a road trip from Denver to Duluth and back. We were very impressed overall with our 24 Pilot Elite. Our best highway mpg was 33, and our worst was 21.5. The best was with a tail wind most of the way on a two lane highway with the cruse set at 69. The worse was with a strong headwind, (Hello Wyoming) with the cruise set at 77. This was with four adults and all our luggage. We didn't expect to get that good of MPG. Especially considering its boxy shape. Maybe it was because I washed and waxed it right before we left. 😉 We now have about 7k trouble free miles. We hope she stays that way.

Few things, The Atlas is my favorite. Did the Americans not receive an invitation? Durango? Traverse? Explore? THE BRAND NEW GMC Acadia Denali!!! The Palisade, in its highest trim is truly a Premium Luxury vehicle. What a value. Job well done Hyundai! The Grand Highlander in its highest trim is nicer than its Lexus cousin, and it looks significantly better! The Accent is truly a testament of how loyal Subaru customers are because that styling is all over the place then stretched to the ground, overall it’s a huge no for me. But hey they sale right. Thanks you all for real feedback. This was an awesome review.
@JTKels6 ай бұрын
WOW they got it wrong!!! Clearly number one is the Highlander and clearly the Honda pilot comes way in front of Hyundai and Kia last on the list should be the atlas not the Subaru … according to reliability.. NOTE. Their order had Nothing to do with RELIABILITY.. I guess CARS only rates on the # of cup holders and storage bins

I hate how they always seem to review the very loaded models instead of low to mid loaded ones

In the world of voice controls, the Atlas does a good job offering an alternative to the touchscreen for climate and radio. "Hey Volkswagen" turn on ventilated seats....
@Baasicstuff5 ай бұрын
Toyota GH is my choice ....As for the others, fabric seats NO WAY! v6 are sluggy, heavy, the 4 Turbos are way better on road and VW? That's no family car but a cheap BMW future reliability. Honda is a close second but that mini rental car media screen....really?

Where does the Chevy Traverse stack up now in this list?
@setsunaes6 ай бұрын
right on the top of the list. That thing is fire, specially the Z71 or the RS depending on your tastes.

The 2024 Chevrolet Traverse was not available to consider at the time of our testing, but we did recently publish a review that you can watch here: kzbin.info/www/bejne/mJealoKPjqmJeLs

Not a good enough excuse. So, the Ford Explorer is not one of the most popular? You should have included the Grand Cherokee L and Mazda CX-90 and Ford Explorer and Dodge Durango. Also sure you knew the new GMC triplets were coming out. Should have waited.

I would buy a hybrid Highlander but you can't find it at my local dealers.

Thanks for doing this. It would be cool to do a base/mid range model comparison at some point. It seems like most comparisoins are with the loaded expensive versions.
@davidzavala3375 ай бұрын
Which is not the most bought trims. People buy mostly mid trims. Most of the time the difference is huge from base to top trim that it feels like a differently vehicle.

Can you order any of these without the third row? can the third row be removed?
@life368995 ай бұрын
The third rows are designed to fold down flat. Then they are basically a two row but with more storage capacity.

The biggest issue with palisade, and I wish I they call out is the reliability and security issue total deal breaker
@JohnLee-tb3nh6 ай бұрын
It comes with legendary 10-year 100,000-mile warranty. Twice the competition's. So Twice as reliable as competition. Remember, tell the dealership, if you can't guarantee the longevity of your product for 10 years like Hyundai, forget it junk dealer, I am going to Hyundai-Kia.
@TexasRanchu6 ай бұрын
@@JohnLee-tb3nh , having a long warranty does not mean the car is reliable. Can't drive a car if it is in the shop all the time. A quick google search about Hyndai/Kia engine failure and easy to steal can confirm what i am saying.

Palisade doesn’t have security issue, nor reliability problems.

Read the owner reviews… the 10 yr warranty is a joke. They refuse to honor it in many cases. One had been waiting for months on the Kia to get it back fixed. Lemon law? Nope they refused it. Now the person had to get a lawyer. Buy a Toyota … Honda.

why were the Santa Fe and Acadia not included?
@CarscomАй бұрын
The Hyundai Santa Fe is considered a size smaller than the SUVs we were testing and the 2024 GMC Acadia was not released by the time of our testing.

I wish you would have had an ("American") auto manufacturer in this test. The lack of that, makes me feel that this test is not (all things being "equal")!!! Please next time please be considerate to ("all") manufacturers, who have nicer vehicles than, what was tested and in the same price range and comps.

$55,000 for a Hyundai???? The world is definitely changing! You could buy a chevy tahoe for that amount of money. Or even a Mercedes-Benz. But the palisade was probably my favorite aswell. Probably worth more like $40,000 or 39k in my book.

Love the Pathfinder. Great design, love the interior, don't care about the screen and best thing is that is doesn't have a CVT with is huge W for Nissan. One if the few SUVS which I would gladly buy it. Also the Honda Pilot is good choice too. I don't mind if inownnthat SUV too

Where is the 2024 Acura MDX? My wife and I use it to take our kids to school and other events. After dropping them off, we enjoy driving on the twisty mountain roads here in Southern California. Our 3 row SUV, the MDX A Spec with SH-AWD and a front double wishbone suspension, is perfect for this. It handles like a sport sedan, offering both fun and safety. The handling is comparable to German cars, and it has a reliable V6 engine. The only downside is its fuel efficiency. I know it's a family hauler but it does not have to drive like a yacht. The new Mazda CX 90 is missing as well.

I am 100% sure the palisade has wireless Apple carplay and Android Auto. I own one and I use mines wirelessly all the time.

The seats are not comfortable in the ascent and I agree with you, there's not a lot of places to put things and when you do have two drinks in the cup holders you don't have any room left to put anything anywhere else. I was real disappointed in this, but Subarus just not known to compete with the majority. They have a very limited market and their cars are cheap and they sell a lot of them like in Colorado but they are just simple and functional. There is nothing special about them

Grand Cherokee ? CX90 ?
@dustinm88005 ай бұрын
I'm surprised the ascent is even in this. It is so small on the inside it is not finished off very well and doesn't have much styling. But that's what Subaru is known for is very functional but not a lot of tech and they don't dare try to add hardly any styling cues. I drove an ascent and was really unimpressed with the comfort and the looks. And the way it drove. The cabin isn't very big either

Great review. I have a Hyundai Palisade calligraphy night edition, it's nice. I believe the Atlas is solid #2 considering how the review went. I used to be high up on the Telluride but after I compared the two last year it was clear to me which one came out on top and to my surprise, it was the Hyundai. I would have loved an option of leather but the suede material I prefer now to my surprise lol. The button for the gears you get use to easily but I prefer a traditional shifter. I agree that the engine power on it is lacking to me but it's a comfortable ride, I wish it had more low end torque as review mentioned. Although it’s not like a speedster will be buying this vehicle lol it’s a family hauler. After, seeing this video I will go test drive an atlas due to me being in the market for one more car.
