I’m a newbie but already an enthusiast with my first car ever - BMW E46 325xi. I’ve done considerable work on it so far - control arms, cv axle, rotors pads calipers, belts, final stage unit resister, expansion tank, etc - but now what looks like my biggest job: my clutch needs replacing. I’ve relied on fantastic KZbin DIY videos tremendously - but your two-part video is the ONLY start to finish E46 clutch replacement video I could find. (It’s odd - most every other E46 job has many DIY videos to choose from.) Thank you for yours. I really like how the curveball problems you encountered you took the time to explain your solutions through them. It has been my experience there are inevitably alway curveball problems that practically bring everything which was going swimmingly to a halt. Anyway, thanks for your video. I believe I’ve got enough confidence to tackle this now!

What size drill bit did you use to drill the exhaust studs out? did the head of the stud come off when you did it?

I can’t remember mate I’ve just picked up the the drill bit and tried to match the best I could, yes it did 👍👍👍

my first time replacing a clutch on my 2004 e46 316i. so far so good . but i need to drill out one exhaust bolt. how did you do it. ive gone through loads of drill bits tried heating it. give up help. please anyone reply

Paul Attree rusty exhaust fixings can be a pain , in my case I cut 2 with a dremel and used a nut and bolt

Thanks for the video. You put the M in Man. Here in USA with a 2005 325i. Just wondering, I know you said that you had received some incorrect parts. But, in total how long did you have to work on the car. Also, over here my 325 is a 2.5L 3 series. &, a 323 (if/when available) would be a 2.3L 3 series. I think you said that that car was a 323 with a 2.5. Just wondering because I'm considering tackling the same job. &, just want to be ready for any pain in the a$$ differences. Besides the whole driving on the wrong side of the road thing (Laugh). Thanks. You're great.

Latenightshoot thanks bud... it took me around 6 and a half hours in total over 2 days , I’m not sure about the 2.3 engine but I believe it should be pretty much the same even being a left hand side drive 👍👍👍good luck mate

How come you dont have any chatter? Well i didnt hear any.. i have a heavy solid mass flywheel and a sachs 6 paddle clutch which runs my 800nm of torque but on idle its chattery and on lower revs it sounds like metal grinding. 😂

So once you convert it from the DMF, how frequently does the flywheel need changing? And where do you get just a non self adjusting clutch or just a flywheel? So far all I can find them in is kits that don't seem to be much less expensive than DMF replacements

Technically it should last the life of the car, I get my parts from eurocarparts or Gsf car parts, they have discount codes ordering online I think I paid around £180 for this kit a fraction of the price of a DMF 👍

liam smith I have fitted to a Citroen C4 grand Picasso diesel for me is the way to go last much longer and regarding the clutch feel you can barely feel any difference 👍
