Graham S - We could not reply directly to your comment as it was entered via Google - You can use a specific floor transmission jack. These are available from Harbor Freight and others. They have a large saddle and tie-down straps or chains similar to the high-lift jack we used. Other than this, a common floor jack can be made to work by using ratchet straps around the transmission and the jack's saddle. this is not nearly as secure as a transmission jack, but with care, can work quite well.

You didn't mention what model you have. However, most BMW models do have a 30mm output flange nut. Some models have a lock-ring around the nut. Have you looked closely to see if you have the lock ring still inplace? Is the nut as much as 6mm larger than the 30mm socket (as noted in the prior reply)?

Very professional way explained in video, thank you. I have a question, my BMW 320d from 2001 is 5.gear model i bought from Swiss second hand. The clutch pedal point is bit to high and if i don't sleep it slowly it might vibrate or car jump in the back, sometimes after i drive several km clutch pedal falls in real driving point, fells fine changing gears while accelerating, but it wan't stay longer then about 30.sec, i have open mask to check for pedals, it's all clear no leaks from cylinders at all and all things are in place. After i saw your excellent video you made, you mention self adjusting clutch...it it possible my car have this kind of self adjusting clutch and is unable to adjust or is it cylinders got air on it. Underneath my car is all the plastic and heat shields intact, it seem never been in service for more than oil change, so can you tell me what could be the problem with my clutch pedal please?

if it sounds like a diesel when the car idles it's probably not the throwout bearing. it's the clutch chatter it's a pretty normal thing when converting from a dual mass to single mass setup.

Isaiah Williams Hmmm ... with the trans on a jack, we can only suggest the following points: * Make sure the trans is on the same angle as the engine ... look at the rear face of the engine block and the front face of the transmission bell-housing flange. they should be parallel. * Put the trans in gear so that you can turn the output shaft to help align the input shaft splines with the clutch disc splines.

Wow, great video. I've got a 2008 E90 318i, and on first gear, when driving a lot in town, the car wobbles and shakes a lot. Is it the flywheel ? It doesn't do this on other gears. Do you know what's the price to change the flywheel in Europe ? Thanks a lot
@Kinsywinsy9 жыл бұрын
Nikita Ind Before you inspect the clutch, check the Crank pulley on the front of the engine that drives the auxiliary belt. A visual inspection with the engine running will be fine to start with. If it wobbles while running even a small amount, turn the engine off and check it for play. There should be some as it's essentially a rubber doughnut. I had what I thought was a ruined Dual Mass Flywheel but after the crank pulley fell off one day and I got it replaced my judder has pretty much gone.

Nice video sir, just wondering if you could give me an idea on how complex of a job it is to do a clutch on a BMW super charged mini, a friend had his clutch done and the cost of the job was staggering to say the least. parts probably cost more in Australia, but , wow, it was a lot of money.
@bavarianautosport10 жыл бұрын
A front wheel drive application is usually a bit more involved for clutch replacement as you have to disconnect the driveline and support the engine ..... or just remove the whole front subframe and driveline from under the car.

I see, ok thanks for the reply mate, have a good day . mik.

It's also not a bad idea to spray some brake cleaner inside the transmission and clean out any dust and debris left over from the old clutch while you have it out of the car. Some people like to actually paint the outside of the transmission when doing a job like this. Honestly that's just a personal preference and mostly something that people do if they're restoring cars to make it look nice.

Hi, Great video, can you tell me the symptoms of a failing dual mass flywheel. I have a BMW 320d E90 2005. 116k. Getting a lot of vibration under the car (not through the steering wheel) when accelerating at 2k/3k rpm typically in 3 / 4 /5th gears this is under the car, rear wheels are balanced, using the clutch i have no issue, thats working great.. Thanks
@bavarianautosport11 жыл бұрын
Driveline vibration can certainly be a symptom of a well-worn dual-mass flywheel. However, we would also suggest that you consider the flex-disc and/or the driveshaft center support bearing in consideration of your symptoms. The most common dual-mass symptom would be a lot of driveline slack feel, such as jerking between acceleration and deceleration.

I also think I can hear some noise from the clutch a kind of low pitched errrrrrrrrrr noise ? what do you think ?
@bavarianautosport10 жыл бұрын
Well, hard to say without driving the vehicle. If the judder happens only when engaging the clutch, this could be an early sign of a worn clutch disc. If it happens just while driving and applying power (accelerating) and not shifting, it may be a driveshaft flex-disc or center bearing
@rigsbyL110 жыл бұрын
BavarianAuto thanks for the speedy reply to my question... I would say it is just after the cluctch peddle is raised and the gentle power is applied. (1st or 2nd gear) i get to thinks a less powered engine might want to stall for a split second before it shudders and recovers

Cristian Marquez - We can offer you a direct stock replacement clutch assembly as well as the LUK new replacement dual-mass flywheel. If you wish to eliminate the dual-mass flywheel, but do not want to go to a lightweight flywheel, we offer the Valeo dual-mass elimination kit. This has a non dual-mass flywheel that weighs the same as the original dual-mass and a stock type clutch assembly that is made to be proper with the new flywheel. You can see all of this is you go to the online store www.bavauto.com and enter your vehicle, then enter flywheel in the search box (for flywheels) or clutch (for clutches). We recommend that you replace the following (our Advisors can help you personally at 800-535-2002): * clutch * flywheel * throw-out bearing * pilot bearing * pivot pin * transmission seals * engine rear crank seal, if it's leaking * rebuild shifter mechanism as required (fix sloppy shifter) * Flex disc if original is cracked * Transmission mounts if soft or cracked

BavarianAuto Thank you for the fast response. I have a 2000 328ci and Im replacing the clutch because it felt as if the clutch was always partially engaged. After removing the transmission I found the uuc flywheel with the e34 m5 pressure plate. This particular pressure plate was indeed a SACHS and the flywheels and clutch disk were burned. (Someone didnt put it in with the proper tool.) I ordered the oem Luk clutch kit prior to me finding out about the uuc flywheel. So my question finally is: can a use the uuc flywheel along with the oem self adjusting luk clutch and have proper release and engagement? If not do you sell an extension rod for the slave cylinder? What do you recommend? Thank you in advance
