It's a bit generalised but I see what you're saying. I think as a car KZbinr you have to focus a lot on being a KZbinr to grow your channel. It's like talented musicians. Talent doesn't matter if you're not really really lucky. You have to focus a lot more on the marketing and business. But that's often not the passion of the creators. Some just love cars and building a community. That's why most car KZbinrs get other people involved as soon as they can so they have people to take care of the business side.

I'd partially agree about KZbin preferring big channels. I think YT wants to protect it's very top tier channels. But everyone else, it couldn't care less about... content is content ... views are views and it doesn't care where it comes from. YT isn't a producer, and there is no real 'brand' of KZbin. Underneath that top tier of channels, YT just sees everything as a big bargain bin of content and for every small creator that burns out, there's another one to take their place. 'The algorithm' might as well just be a big random number generator. Ultimately creators are competing with each other, and each year their numbers increase, so there is more competition and content for the same number of viewers. YT isn't an employer and I'd caution anyone trying to infer the whims of the YT algorithm or YT viewers. For 99.9% of creators, YT should be done as a bit of fun and not expect YT to promote their content. TL:DR... Life will always be tough for small creators.
@fasteddy9173 ай бұрын
I enjoy your channel because you show the real side of what a small KZbin creator goes through. Not that the large KZbin creators don't have their fair share of struggles but it is easier when you have large sponsors helping you. KZbin may be falling into the same trap so many other big businesses have, Pushing the big money makers while ignoring their bread and butter. The small creators, such as yourself, who tirelessly work to provide content for their viewers. People will eventually get tired of yet another super car rebuild. While they are exciting and fun to watch the reality is that most people will be rebuilding a van at home in their garage. Not a multi thousand pound car in a spacious, well equipped shop. How far does your channel reach? I'm in White Rock, British Columbia, Canada. Twenty five miles South of Vancouver, British Columbia. Always great videos. Thank you.

I love the small channels, too much drama and adds on most of thé big ones. I don’t believe in the algorithm it’s more based on the interest of the viewer. I get recommends of very small channels. I’m happy with the vlog how it is.

Completely agree with what you are saying, I have a full time job (also in IT) and a family with 3 children. I do the content because I enjoy it just like you. Yes we all have down days, yours came from a Caddy and mine from a Corsa but we push on :) Channels like yours educate people in how to do new things. Without KZbin I wouldn't know where to start with some of my projects and that's what I love about what we do, we find a problem, work out how to fix it and then share that knowledge with anyone who wants to watch it. Plus we are putting vehicles back on the road to make them useful to people again. If I end up earning beer money then that will be just fine with me as I can use it to treat my family who give me the time to do the work and make the content. Keep up the great work Paul!!

Same situation buddy i've stopped putting out content this year as much as its near on impossible to keep up with demand. Also work in IT as a CTO and for me to go full time on YT would require a big income for me to walk away from the day job. I love doing it but am very competitive and its killing me not being able to push on....Ive been luck to know / speak to some of the larger content creators and it's all smoke and mirrors. I know one of the largest has relatives that are directors at copart and get access to the sites and to look around at the cars before he bids on them!!..So when they say ive taken the biggest risk so far they haven't as they've already gone over the car with a fine tooth combe but people lap it up...

Whilst I watch Tavarish and Matt Armstrong, I really enjoy the low budget channels like yours and Saving Salvage. I like the fact that you are not trying to make a living from your content and so you can pick and choose to work on whatever you like. I particularly enjoyed the Tesla and ID3 rebuilds, they were really good and the ID3 was unique to your channel. Your rebuilds are generally more relatable since they are not on super expensive vehicles that are out of reach of most mortals. If you can stomach another EV, I'd love to see a Kia eNero or similar.

I would say, KZbin is just a platform which can be used for all sorts of content. It really down to the style and type of content you promote to your audience. You will get the loyal subscribers who watch everything with out fall, but you will also find other channels which have more of exciting content experience which bring you in. I’ve watch you from the beginning and never found your stuff bad, even with the van and rebuilding of the garage stuff. It all just depends on what you want to get out of the channel to be fair. Personally I think you have done a grand job for someone working on their driveway, but if you want to improve as a channel, I would suggest thinking about format of it, I.e. uses different camera angles and less time lapses, go into bit more details with your work, but don’t over do it, and more importantly just be you. You definitely come across as a decent and honest person who has a real passion for his hobby.

I do tend to disagree. I think the algorithm works based on many factors, not just how many organic views it gets. All KZbinrs start off small. I mean you could grow your channel a lot if you wanted to but if you're not into that it's fine. Many creators that have a good but small community are getting different income sources. Like memberships with exclusive content or sponsorships. Sponsorships seem RELATIVELY easy to get (subscriber count) from tool brands for example. Also there is Patreon and Merch. But this is all just stuff for people who focus on building a KZbin business. If you just want to put out content just keep doing that.

unfortunately, as with everything that involves commercial businesses, it’s all about the big money makers and what gets the corporate companies the biggest coverage to beat their rivals. As you say your channel along with thousands of others started as a hobby and you wanted to help overs do a similar thing or just help other people to learn about cars and how to repair them. As for Matt Armstrong and tavarish and the Hoovies of the world, they have dumped hundreds of thousands of dollars\pounds into their channels, the funny thing is that they’re doing exactly what you have been doing, the difference is they have chosen youtube to be their golden ticket to stardom and money, so they have to find ways to keep the money rolling in!! eventually people will get tired\bored of their content and move on to something or someone else. I love your channel and it must be soul destroying to see other channels reap the rewards because of a computer software algorithm, that has no interest in the person and what they’re doing but in the click bait that so many people lap up with complete naivety as to the real content just as long as it’s a few guys and girls doing stupid jokes and acting like immature buffoons that buy expensive cars that cost a fortune to repair. Whereas you’re like 99% of us normal people, just trying to do a good job and entertain the real people that look further than the lighting of a video or the sound, but the actual enthusiasm you put in to your channel and the real world of repairing cars for us normal people on a budget. Keep up the good work, even if it doesn’t feel like your work is appreciated, let me tell you it is and thank you for the effort and content. all the best, Kev.

I completely disagree Paul, the "big hitters" are big thanks to their content not because KZbin is promoting them. They were all small in the beginning and by producing good content, their audiences and channels grew. For instance, if Matt Armstrong begins to post boring videos, he will soon lose audience. Please forgive me for being direct, but unfortunately, the quality of your videos over the last year has gone down and it's understandable that interest is waning. It is also understandable that KZbin won't push a video with 2k views like your last Caddy video over Matt Armstrong's last Wraith video with 1.2M views. I gave you excellent suggestions in my direct Instagram messages but you ignored them and never even replied. You have also ignored many comments from your viewers who voiced their concern with the quality of the videos. I really hope you give this situation some thought and try to improve the content and you'll soon grow the channel again. All the best.
