My understanding is that the ICE drives the generator and can provide direct mechanical drive to the wheels over 70km/hr if the drivetrain computer calls for it. The ICE does not exclusively drive the generator, as you said in this review.

This car just seems to be made for people like me. I do an 80km round trip to work and back, I don't do any hard off roading but do need to drive on pretty rough dirt tracks every now and then. I need a ute, just because i do! and occasionally drive long distances with family and/or dog in the back. Sure, I would love to be able to afford a new Hybrid Ranger or Hilux but I can't. So this vehicle also falls within an affordable price range. I will certainly be looking at it when I head up into the city sometime later this year. And that brings me to my one and only issue that may prevent me from purchasing one. Support for W.A. country. I sure as hell won't be driving to the city just to get it serviced and if they tell me they don't have authorised service centers in the country then it will be a deal breaker.

@Johnno1979 i get that but putting the vehicle in a high SOC kinda defeats the purpose of having a hybrid in the first place as the 1.5lt engine will be working harder and for longer. Especially if towing something like a 2tonne hybrid camper. So far this ute looks good for the money and does a lot right. Its a great car on paper, but my guess is that it will only really be purchased by private individuals or owner operators. I just cant see it threatening the Hilux and Ranger as a company car. Fleet buyers love Ford and Toyota. I just cant see the Shark threatening those. The main issue with the Shark is that you need to plug it in to get the best fuel range and performance. Bazza the electrician / plumber isn't going to plug his company provided work ute in at his house using his own electricity when he gets home at the end of the day. They typically have a company fuel card. On the flip side Bazza is going to love being paid to sit connected to a public charger for an hour on company time. The other foreseeable issue is second hand value. I wonder how much value the Shark will retain after 5 years of ownership compared to a Hilux / Ranger? Might be better to get it on a lease...
@riseimagination40796 күн бұрын
The resale value of all new energy vehicles will drop significantly due to battery degradation. Hybrid cars are best suited for suburban areas where you have solar panels at home for charging, and your daily commute falls within the electric range. Gasoline can be used occasionally for long trips.

The driver monitoring is mandatory for all governments going forwards. Every car, everywhere. You can obviously turn it off whenever you want, or just be afraid for the rest of your life.

@onetwothreefour-s1n the only thing I'm afraid of is not being authentic... being a sheeple is not an option for me but thanks for the enlightened comment 😂😂

They are banning these tracking devices in the USA but go ahead and buy one if you like. Of course there’s nothing to see here 🤫
@onetwothreefour-s1n3 күн бұрын
Your Ford and every other car will do the same tracking. Put the tinfoil hat down and lay off the fox news.

Looks great in person, it has a lot more road presence than Tritons, Hilux etc.

Max Load is less than 800kg useless for a ute.
@Johnno19795 күн бұрын
80% of ute owners wouldn't ever carry more than 800kg payload.

😂 Chinese state-owned agent? Did China 🇨🇳 buy Australia 🇦🇺 🤔 Whilst the rest of the developed world will tariff Chinese made cars 100% How long will it last 🤔 How's resale values going to be 🤔
@Mike-bt3ki4 күн бұрын
We don't have domestic car brands/manufacturing in Australia to protect so why tariff Chinese cars? Putting taxes on Chinese cars just shows how the US and Europe can't compete with China, on one hand the West says Made in China = low quality then need to put tariffs on Chinese cars because US/Europe aren't confident that their own domestic products can succeed in a market with Chinese made cars.
@kamsunleong66484 күн бұрын
Developed Norway, Switerzland and UK for example, do not impose any tariffs on Chinese evs.

The US/EU have domestic car manufacturing/brands to protect hence the tariffs. It just shows how the US and Europe aren't confident in their products succeeding in a market with Chinese cars.

Resale will be zero but let them learn the hard way

Over 5500 orders without test driving it or even physically sighting one of these Ute's made in Chinah. I can just see the sunarmi of complaints when these Cheap Chinese Ranger copycats don't live up to expectations. It will be just another Cheap Sht Box from Chinah that you can't get rid of.There is an old saying, You get what you pay for !

I dare you to go and test drive one. Then hop back into whatever ute you currently drive and not have that feeling you paid way too much for an inferior product. The legacy manufactures also have an old saying, a fool and his money are easily parted!

@ferraltech old mate here thinks more expensive = more better. Imagine paying heaps of money for a sht box. Gotta keep up with the Jones though.

You get what you pay for.......yep, and Toyota and Ford love this philosophy, too. And they make you pay more and more every model😂

Old grandpa trikpony is really struggling to cope with awesome new tech from China. He once said the same thing about Japanese tpuotas and Taiwanese Kias.... Hell come around.
