i used to like the Swift but their latest facelift just doesn't cut it for me

I've just bought the Swift and definitely, pics and videos don't do this car any justice.Face-to-face It looks like a different car, really impressive. Both the new blue and red colours with the black roof look amazingly beautiful. The interior looks dated when considering the new interiors nowadays but the feeling you have something different, something which does not look like the SUV-ish style all cars nowadays are adopting ,makes the Swift a bit special. It's an old school car and obviously it's not addressed to those Who are looking for the fastest, most technological, with the most modern look kind of car.

In the Netherlands, the ANWB (the Dutch counterpart of the RAC) did the same test, and both drivers preferred the Suzuki Swift, mainly because of the much better driving characteristics of the Swift. The Dutch magazine Autoweek, managed to cover a distance of 925 km on 1 tank (37 liters) with the Suzuki Swift.

I own the Swift and it has all the weakness of small car with small engine. But it is Suzuki and made in Japan. So that's good. Engine is underpowered with no turbo so should be reliable. Space is fine for a small car. It is well equipped so that's good. It does bing and bong at you so that's not good. The best bit is when you treat it harshly, the car comes to life and pretends to be a sports car. That is priceless.

The way to beat depreciation on new cars is not to buy a new car! Simples!!! After getting badly stung with depreciation on new cars over the years, I finally got sense and now I buy a 3-4 year old car with very low mileage (it's fun searching online for the cheapest 3 year old car with low mileage) for approx half the price the original buyer paid for it. I then run the car for 2 years and trade it in and lose very little compared to what I paid for it. I'm fortunate that I'm very car "literate" and I can maintain my own car without ever needing to go to a garage and thus I can ensure that the car I'm buying is in good nick before I buy it. Works for me but if you're someone who "needs" a new reg plate, go for it. I'll give you half what you paid for it in 3-4 years time! :). As for these two cars, its a nope on either. Too much money for small cars with dubious safety ratings. I'll stick with buying a much better car, with top of the range features for less money thanks!

Great review as always. I often wonder what do people do with all those seconds saved in getting from 0-60 in 7 seconds rather than say 13 seconds. Do they go on holidays with the time saved over a life time of driving? I suppose they add up over time. But if you're getting on a bit you could easily loss those seconds saved as you are trying to get out of the vehicle. Please feel free to use this useless observation in any future videos.

Brilliant review as ever, I think I'd have the Suzuki or a second hand Toyota Yaris hybrid the reason being the MG though it is reasonable for the money it's quite a high group of insurance and a second hand Yaris could be had for less than both.

Small Suzukis remain bullet proof and the Swift is a proven concept. For urban driving that you will never have to give a second thought to, its the best.

The Suzuki looks better, and its back to basics approach, coupled with gentle innovation makes it more compelling. No complicated engineering yet achieves similar fuel economy. MG is still a good buy, but I think the Suzuki gives more value. I guess this does give us one more lesson on electrification. Not all types of electrification make sense for all vehicle classes. Superminis will make do with Mild Hybrids, compact cars and SUVs do well as hybrids, and the more lumbersome heavy vehicles best suited to PHEVs.

If I had to replace my Colt it would be the MG3 any day. The Swift is too classic for me.

Probably go for a Dacia Sandero Stepway or Citroen C3, the Swift is too ugly, and the MG is boring.
