Acura TL Ignition Switch Test | No Start - Stalling - Key Stuck Help

Today I'll be showing how to test an ignition switch on the third generation Acura TL. Common symptoms of a failing or failed ignition switch include: no start, vehicle stalls, can't turn or remove the ignition key and issues powering the accessories; such as the radio, power windows and locks, etc.

If you're curious about the wiring:
White / Red wire - Accessories (ACC)
Solid White - Battery
Black / Yellow wire - Ignition 1
Black / Red wire - Ignition 2
Black / White wire - Start
Testing sequence: (Testing for continuity)
(a) Accessories (ACC) - White / Red wire and Solid White wire
(b) On Position (II) - White / Red wire and Solid White (first test)
White / Red wire and Black / yellow wire (second test)
White / Red wire and Black / red wire (third test)
(c) Start (III) - Solid White and Black / Yellow wire (first test)
Solid White and Black / White wire (second test)
If you do not receive continuity after performing any one (or multiple) tests, the ignition switch needs to be replaced.

Issues with intermittent start. Solid White and Black / White wire (second test) had no continuity. I replaced the ignition switch (electrical part) and still have the same issue. I tested starter, starter relay, and neutral safety switch. It all checked out fine. Im stumped not sure what else to do. Do I need to replace the entire lock assembly ? Thanks

My 2005 Acura TL car will start, and after turning it off I go to start it again and it clicks 1 time but will not start. It takes multiple attempts, and then it starts then i do it all over again. A couple of unsucceaful attempts with one click and then a start.

I am doing preventive maintenance at 150kMi and have not had to deal with this yet... It is my understanding the small relays "MAIN", (actually the blue relay you have your hand on) are the one doing the actual power switching and wearing out. It would be nice to show actual electric diagram... 👍

yes I need to remove the ignition lock on my 01 tl. key has been glitchy since I got the car and it stranded me being unable to turn and start the car last night. I bought a push button start and need to delete the current ignition

How do you know if it's the switch or fuel pump relay, my son's car TL 2002 208k miles, just stalled today after 5 miles of driving, waited for an hour for a tow and he decided to turn the key and ii started again, new starter 6 months ago, battery and alternator tested and both are good

When you turn your key to position 2 you should hear a hissing noise this is your fuel pump engaging. Also you’d most likely still have power on your dash with a bad fuel pump relay

@@nou2736 happened to me twice today. Randomly started on first second time i had to put in neutral to start it. I've read some stuff and said it's the neutral safety switch that needs to be replaced.

I have a question, when I go to crank my tl it sometimes doesnt start right away and acts like a dead battery. It usually starts after a few tries but something is starting to fail I think

@@shirlene767 no, I haven't fixed it yet. Sometimes it starts and every couple months when I turn the key nothing happens and then key wont come out. Usually if you keep trying then after 15 mins or so it will usually start. It happened again earlier today. I'm thinking it is the ignition switch
