GREAT VIDEO... I had no click, no crank, no dash lights, no sound, no horn....nothing...all of the sudden, after stopping to go shopping...came out and it wouldn't start...I got a jump from someone and THAT worked....got home...tried to turn the key, and NOTHING again...but I was parked...so I searched out my multimeter and i tried testing between the battery points and the connectors, and I was getting like -7.5 on the negative terminal (between battery prob and the connector)....I pulled out the sand paper, cleaned both sides up really well....hopped in the truck and...BOOM....turned key and everything is back to normal....this vid saved me a lot of headache....THANK YOU!

I might be having the same issue with my highlander. All my electrical goes dead to the entire vehicle when I push the START button. Not sure at what point you were getting the voltage drop and what you cleaned. I don't think you meant the battery terminals, or did you? After a few minutes the power resets and I finally can start it up and runs fine after that.

Hello buddy, first of all thank you for your amazing channel I recently faced a No-Crank-No-Start problem on my Chevy Trailblazer 2008, 4.2L, I6 engine. The engine ran fine. I returned from office, parked the car and tried to start it after around 3 hours to do some grocery in the evening but no crank no start. I confirmed (using the battery check up steps you mentioned) that the battery and terminals were good. I took my car to a friend's workshop. I visited his shop the next day and his mechanic told me he could not find any problem with the alternator or starter. He called on different car electricians and they could not diagnose it. He asked for electrical technician's help from a neighboring shop. This is how my friend described it to me "the electrician did not even open the hood. He connected his scanning tool and reprogrammed the PCM. The car will run fine but if it happens again, you should replaced your PCM." Listening to this I asked questions which my friend could not answer because he is not electrical expert and the loaned out electrician had already gone. Here are my questions. 1). When the engine is not cranking not starting, how can I connect a scan tool? with no power, will it communicate with the PCM? If yes, what can I look for? and what can I possibly alter? 2). Did he really reprogram it? Is it possible? 3). What do you think was the actual problem? I do own a scan tool and regularly check my car's engine parameters after scheduled maintenance. Your videos have helped me save hundreds of dollars by not replacing the good parts. Thanks again for your videos. Keep up the good work. I wish I could contribute to your channel beyond just recommending it to friends.

Well done video. My 2015 highlander, intermittently, won't start or even crank and all the electrical goes dead as if a fuse pops when I push the START button. After a few minutes it resets then finally the engine starts. So far this has happened twice. Update: It turned out to be dirty battery terminals. Once cleaned, no more issues.

@@mrobvious5892 what would you recommend for an intermittent no crank. Emphasis on intermittent. When it cranks and cranks and starts right up. No crank there's not one peep or click or anyting. It won't crank and dash lightscare working. ( next time you try to start it 30 minutes to a day later it'll crank right up. So it appears to not be the battery which is fairly new. ) Now I noticed along the way it will could take months for it to happen again. I discovered an unusual "key dance". When I'm actively in the situation where it's not cranking, just pull the key out of the ignition switch and white for all the interior courtesy lights to turn off. Within five seconds a small click happened that sounded like it was behind the dashboard. After the click happened I inserted the key and the car cranked right up. Here's the interesting part, if I don't hear the click it's not going to crank when I put the key back in. If I hear the click I know it's going to start when I put the key in. It could go days to months before it happens again. The urgency in finding out what the situation is has someone increased because Pokey dance has stopped working since I never get the click anymore. I couldn't start it the tow truck driver couldn't start it but somehow the mechanic got it started. They swapped out the starter relay under the hood and repair the wire. But I still have the no crank issue. And I'm no longer getting the click after I take the key out and let the lights drain.

I have a basic 1999 Toyota Tacoma manual 5 speed. It is not starting. No crank and no fire. Nothing! No instrument lights on when I turn the key. The headlights nor the interior dash can light goes on. I have fully charged the battery. I have checked the battery bolts, reads 12.6. I confirmed the battery cables are fully connected and tighten. I repaired a 9” thin black wire that was barely connected to the main NEG battery cable and connected to the inside finder to ground. I ensured that there is a solid wire contact to the metal inside fender and joining up with the rest of the NEG battery cable. Still no crank and of curse no fire. Any suggestions of what to try next? Thank you all for sharing your own mechanical issues with your own Toyota trucks. Be blessed. 🙏🏻🇺🇸

And every video I've watched of yours tonight has led me to believe it's in the ignition switch or the wire leading from it. Because I can jump the starter, and when I turn the key I only get 6.5 volts coming from the ignition trigger at the starter ( battery provides a solid 12.6v at battery and starter always hot.) If no power, or vey little power, despite a good battery and/or efforts to jump it, check the battery terminal connections, but also the negative cable where it attaches to the car for ground. I had this issue on the coldest (deep freeze) day of the year. I'm sure the metal shrinking in the cold temperatures helped to cause this problem. Besides corrosion, there were deposits from arching that also insulated the sides of the connection. Cleaned it and problem solved.

Thank you, for the awesome video. I am going through this, right now. I brought a new ignition switch, still no voltage coming through the starter cable. I believe the program is with the purple starter cable itself. I recently repaired my engine harness, and i ended up cutting the starter cable in multiple areas, because I thought it was too long. After I did that, it ended up too short. So, I used some heat-strink butt connectors, to piece the starter wiring back together. I think there's a poor connection somewhere, within the starter cable itself. However, I am about to replace the whole starter cable. I know it's not the starter, cause it's brand new. Relay and fuses are good, battery is new, battery cables are new, and no anti-theft problem. The only thing it could be, if the change in wiring doesn't correct the problem, then my park neural safety switch could be the cause of me not getting the 12 volts, through the starter cable.

Don't hesitate to use a little force with your hand, when checking connections. The solenoid Positive post that connects to the battery's positive cable. The cable was TIGHT, but the solenoid cap was able to move on the top of it. I just happened to be able to wiggle the battery cable and the entire cap of the solenoid started rocking. That was the culprit faulty solenoid. Done and Done... Thumbs ^ and Subby....

This week my 7.3 had no click one morning on several key turns, came back in an hour, started right up. The morning prior had to crank 3rd time (no clicks, just cranking, no fire up) before it shimmied right up and was good. So, Replaced 2 year, 10 month old "good" Deka batteries with Odyssey glass mats and no more issues and wallet's easier to carry. Last fall I had a "click" noise when turning key, there was a click" from R front fender area, replaced starter relay and good to go (had to hit relay to start to get home (or you can screwdriver from small to larger terminal on it, and risk shock)). Tried a new relay when had click one day a month ago and found the ford one took more draw and wouldn't work, so put on chinese one and it fired up until this week, so I had clues my batteries were ending life cycle). Sometimes numbers look ok but older wiring loses juice at various spots and grounds get crappy, I had cleaned starter connection under truck and all battery bits in the fall, but cold winter drained more juice until it was clear I needed new cells. My starter is hi-torque, and alternator HD rebuilt, both last 2 years.

Help. I have a 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe with 109,000 miles. For the past 5 years it has intermittently been a no crank no start. I have had it to.the dealer many many times, also took.it to independent service stations. The dealer has contacted Hyundai's regional technical support. Every time it is put thru computerized diagnoses I am told nothing shows up. The lights on the dashboard go on however. I have had the battery replaced, I replaced the starter relay, I had the ignition cylinder replaced (although I had requested that the ignition switch be replaced with that repair), I've had the inhibitor switch replaced. The problem is becoming more and more frequent. I have taken it to an automotive electrical shop and heard an old episode of Car Talk where somebody had a similar problem and the brothers suggested it could be a bad spot on the fly wheel. I have put it in neutral and pushed it to a new location and it didn't make a difference. I have no chip in my key. I have begged numerous mechanics to look for simple electrical problems or mechanical problems but Hyundai won't help anymore and nobody has been able to figure out what to do. I've suggestedmaybe it was the starter or the fly wheel but I am always told no. As of now I can't take it any place because I never know when or if it will start. I don't want to junk it but nobody will help me. Sometimes I just have to keep trying and eventually it starts, sometimes I have to leave it alone for hours. I've used different keys and had many different people try to start it when it won't start for me. I am a dead broke senior who desperately needs help with this problem. Any suggestions?

Have a 2010 VW Routan(Chrysler). I had the problem of one click, no start. This fix may not fix everyone's but it did mine. It is likely not the starter or the battery. If the starter is clicking then it is not the NSS at all. The NSS prevents the starter from doing anything. So check that off. Switching your gears is NOT fixing the problem. It's only a coincidence that it works after. I have this problem after my first OEM starter blew and a new (re-man) one was put in by dealer and sometime after my trans was replaced/fixed for a whirring problem. This problem went on for several years and slowly got worse. This year.(2020) It would happen everyday and almost everytime I tried to start it. Put 2 starters on it, same thing, battery good, etc. Weird it hardly ever happened in the winter. I'm believing now it's because of the drier weather. Now after watching this video I decided to check the grounds. (kzbin.info/www/bejne/p5W2YoWrZthpfpY). To make this short. I replaced the broken ground strap that is on the passenger side engine compartment that grounds the block to the frame. Mine was broken as you will likely find yours to be. (www.chryslerminivan.net/threads/ground-strap-broken.170175/) Then I removed both cables on the starter (There are 2) and cleaned them with a power drill with wire brush attached. (nice and shiney) Then I removed the eyelet ground wire from the battery to the frame (located inside engine compartment behind drivers side headlight) Cleaned that the same way.(nice and shiney, both eyelet and post). Next do the same for ground wire that screws onto the transmission housing. (power drill, wire brush, bare metal) Tighten up. Clean battery posts too if yours are crappy. Basically, you're just not having a good enough ground to spin that starter. Haven't had the problem since, over 2 weeks now. Problem: One click, no start. Solved: Cleaned ground connections and the "hot" connections to starter.

I just this week started having starting problems with my 2003 3L V6 Ford Ranger. So far it has only happened twice. Each time it started and drove fine. But when I went to start it again it cranked just fine but wouldn’t start. After 10-20 minutes ± it starts right up and runs fine. When it isn’t starting all gauges and lights are working normal. New Battery + clamps no other problems

Excellent videos. Clear and comprehensive. 99 grand vitara 2.5 I jumped the starter magnetic switch wire to the pos battery post, and it turns over but no spark. I was thinking of putting in a starter button. 1.) would the crankshaft position sensor still cause spark in this scenario ? 2.) would a faulty neutral safety switch prevent spark ? 3.) would a faulty camshaft position sensor have anything to do with it not sparking ?

Awesome video, I had power at my starter but not my signal wire when trying to crank. After looking around the motor for a bit I noticed the shift linkage popped off, so if anybody ever has no crank that's another thing to check

prime_bassing TV It happened to me too, but it was the starter switch connection was not connected in all the way on the starter hence a no crank .

EXTRA TIP: Also make sure the vehicle is shifted all the way to Park. A loose/misaligned cable or shifter arm preventing it from fully clicking into Park could prevent starting.

Usually though if your able to take your key out of the ignition then everything there is working correctly because if it doesn't sense it is in park then it will not allow you to take the key out of the ignition

Ya know, I just came across your vids within the last couple weeks and I have to say they are very educational and thorough. Would you mind showing how to properly hook up a kill switch? Thatd be awesome. Thank you, Sir. Good day!

M.Night207 if you watch the next few videos you can probably figure it out. It basically just goes in the signal wire coming out of your ignition switch. Cheers
