I saw the Fedex MD-11 that pulled up to the runway hold line behind the accident aircraft. That was an interesting choice (or maybe the simulator software did that on its own?). I flew for Fedex from the mid 90s to 2021 and I don't think we had a service to Algiers. Still cool to see the Mad Dog in the video though. You do great work with these accident reviews.

As a senior ATC in Algiers ACC, I can confirm that no FedEx aircraft services to Algiers airport. Only DHL and UPS flights do

Thanks for yet another very well done accident analysis! There are two occurrences during a takeoff run that absolutely make an abortion mandatory: If the aircraft rotates on it's own before VR and if the aircraft doesn't rotate properly when pulling on the yoke. Both occurrences point to a wrong loading of an aircraft and a CG out of the envelope! Cudos to the crew - very well done!

@@Milesco Yes, you are absolutely right on that! Given that one should check the trim settings as part of the before take off checks, that should become obvious long before applying takeoff power.

The video states that the plane was carrying several tons of cargo. The 737-800 can carry 23.9 tons of cargo and empty weighs 47 tons. I would have thought that 2.5 tons, wherever it was placed, would have a minimal effect on the COG.

@@BabyFruitBat That's not what "several" means. It means more than two, but less than "many". It's certainly not limited to three. (And as a practical matter, an airline isn't going to waste money flying a plane that's nearly empty. So if, as you say, it can carry 23.9 tons of cargo, there's no way it's taking off with less than 12.) (Indeed, the perennial problem with cargo planes is *_overloading._* (Just look at Aerosucre! 😁))

I've seen a number of videos involving crashes, some involving deaths' which were owing to improper loading of cargo and I wonder whether those responsible were ever prosecuted for manslaughter (depending on the country) by being totally incompetent?

They were lucky that it didn't fly. If it had got off and airborne the nose light/tail heavy could have caused it to have control problems that might have proved fatal.

This is a simulation. The fact that the flaps aren't deployed in the simulation doesn't mean they weren't deployed in the actual incident. In fact, this ( and most modern commercial planes ) have an automated system that warns the crew if the plane isn't properly configured for take off - including flaps not deployed..

It's a simulation. Just because the flaps aren't shown deployed in the simulation, doesn't mean they weren't in the actual situation. that's not covered in the simulation so I guess if you really want to know, you'll have to research the official report on the incident. IT'S S SIMULATION.

Please excuse my naivety, but if there was after " push back ", an automatic weight reading recorded on the nose wheels that was corelated to that of the main undercarriage, the longitudinal fuselage centre of gravity should be able to be precisely located + even compared to the centre of lift produced by wings + elevator at point of rotation. This would be displayed alongside the PFD.+ automatically calculated by one of your clever computers. If the disparity was UNHEALTHY, a throttle stopper would be immediately deployed. Apart from the standard pre flight exercises a precautionary throttle opening immediately following push back disengagement, would save fuel, time + therefore money.

Absolutely not. Mistakes will happen. These pilots acted like true bosses and cancelled everything. We have seen examples of pilots that try to take off in cases like this - those are the ones to be wary of.
