live and let live yeah it’s an automatic, it still shifts good though. No work done to it besides ATF changes. When driving normally I’m always gradual and consistent on the pedal. I’ve gotten the throttle input down to the point where I don’t even feel the shifts 90% of the time which is saying something for a 20 year old 4 speed automatic with a really basic ECU. When I do beat on the car (which is pretty regular) I make sure it’s been up to temp for a few minutes. Knowing how to drive a car is almost as important as maintenance.

My 2007 Honda Civic LX 1.8L has 303,000 miles on it. Bought it new in 2007. My daily commuter car. Just took it on a 3400 mile road trip. Have kept up on fluid changes (oil (Mobil1), tranny fluid drain & fills, coolant drain & fills, brake & power steering vacuum & refills with Honda fluids). Maintenance on these cars is well designed and EASY! Runs like new. I always know I can count on it (unlike my other vehicles). In the life of the car I have only replaced the starter, struts, brake pads, sparkplugs (at 265,000 miles only because it seemed like I should given the mileage even though the originals seemed fine), and a motor mount (quick and easy). Planning a 3,000 mile road trip out east in 2 months and have no doubt it will be fine. I plan to get a million miles on this car if I live long enough. Good car.

2:01 This is a common rust spot on these cars. The rust will open the pinch weld seam and destroy the sealant in this area. That permits water intrusion and then it's down hill from there. If you catch it, reseal the seam, touch up the paint, and ensure the seam stays sealed then it will go a long way toward stopping rust in this rust-prone area of the car. To seal it use a durable heavy duty urethane sealant. Expensive automotive sealant is not needed. A roofing urethane sealant will work, with the downside that it takes a long time to cure. If you can use proper automotive sealant then all the better, but it's quite expensive.

Currently driving a 2011 Civic DX sedan that I bought four years ago at 82k miles. It’s currently at 215k after a lot of Lyft driving and coastal road trips. Only major repair has been overhauling the AC (compressor and a couple other parts) and new struts last year. Other than that, normal maintenance like tires, brake pads, one wheel bearing. Also did a cosmetic repair recently - had both my front fenders sideswiped in two separate incidents, so I replaced those (and the bumper cover) with pre-painted panels for $260/ea. Looks great again.😎

@@hv3115 Because when you use a FLUSH machine hundreds of vehicles have already used it and the machine is contaminated. But aldo note that when flushing it will add brand new fluid which could cause the gears to slip Because the transmission is used to having some old fluid in it. When Drain and fill you only drain 50% of the fluid and keep some old fluid and you shouldn't have any issues.

As of 12-22-23 my 2006 Civic LX 5 Speed manual (bought new and pampered) has 230,000 miles and still runs like new. I did replaced the the AC system in 2018 and right rear wheel bearing in 2015. Since retirement in 2020 I now have more time to take care of this car. I have (DiY) replaced steering wheel fluid, brake fluid, coolant, EGR valve, Vtec Solenoid, spark plugs, ignition coil, brake rotors, brake pads, valve cover gasket and adjusted the valves. All of these jobs were possible with all the excellent how-to videos on KZbin. I did have to repaint the roof and the front hood of the car. My plan is to replace the alternator and serpentine belt in January 2024. This is a great beater car and good backup for my new 10th gen. Accord 6 speed manual 2.0T Sport. For nearly 40 years I bought only Hondas and very happy with them.😊

2hg 2008 civic here and my block cracked at 78 000 miles. My dad bough it New it 2008. We replaced the engine and it’s now at 102 000 miles. Meanwhile my 2004 civic as 168 000 miles and still original engine (automatic transmission remplace 2 years ago) but now the engine is leaking by the gasket. Again my dad bought it new in 2004. I guess we are not that lucky but they are still good cars, but I would avoid 2006 to 2009 because of the engine and others esthetic issues.we just but a 2017 1,5t one 3 years ago. I hope it’s gonna last but I’ve already heard some problems on internet. At the time we bought it, everybody was praising the 1,5t over the 2,0. Now it’s seems différent sadly because of oil dilution. So far no issues but the car barely reach 4000 miles since we use our old one way more

This car you can’t buy for 2500 dollar in Europe. First this model it came only as a hybrid to us. But that fact made them cheaper because of battery life problems. With battery packs prices costing 3200 euro new from the dealer. An ‘08 civic is stil above 3500 even with high mileage in every shape it comes in.

I went to almost 275,000 before my engine cracked. also before i did any major repairs. they were very minimal to that point. when Honda replaced that engine for FREE, i went to 465,000. It was not until i got into the very high 200,000's mileage that i started replacing things like starter, alternator and the like. you have my pic, lol. Car still running at 465,000 but it has electrical issues. My friend has it. It's sitting because something is shorting the battery. Tranny slipped maybe 2 times the whole life of the car and is original. that was a car above cars.

@@carsthatlast441 Thanks for your videos I appreciate them. Do you have any idea how common the cracked engine block is on the 2006 Civic ? I know there was a service bulletin and they extended the warranty but it still seems like it was a small percentage of the cars that actually had the problem when you consider how many were made. Appreciate any info or thoughts you might have on the likelihood of it happening on the 2006 civic. Thanks.

Sure I’m not a “good” driver. But what I’m implying too is that all of those maneuvers (parking uphill on a steep hill in reverse, etc) are undoubtedly much more difficult with a manual transmission, Civic or not Civic, than any auto tran and even worse if the clutch is about to go. Great car. But this is why most people buy automatics.
