Greg - Your Car Angel- talks about the problems in each generation of the Honda Civic. Focusing on the 7th generation up till the 11the generation. Problems with the seventh generation which ran between the years 2001-2005 had many recalls with transmission problems, power steering pump failure, clear coat paint failure, hybrid battery problems, throttle management issues, and of course the Takata airbag recall makes this the civic the least reliable with the most problems. The 2006-2011 had problems with the paint but most serious was the engine block cracking. This issue was the worst and affected the 2006, 2007, 2008 and some 2009 models. there was a technical service bulletin for the R18 engine. Honda extended the warranty on these engines. The 2012 through 2015 models were very reliable except the 2014 and 2015 models equipped with the CVT transmission.
The 2016 through 2019 models with the 1.5 liter turbo earth dream engines had oil dilution issues. There was also a TSB but no recall on that.

I work at a dealership. Most reliable civic years are 2010, 2011, 2012 and 2013. However the 2012 and 2013 have low quality seat fabrics. They wear out really fast. Also 2012 but not the 2013 have a very cheap interior plastics

I have the 2006 Honda Civic LX. Bought it brand new at the dealership on September of 2006. My son now owns this car. He drove it from California to Virginia with no issues. Now he returns the car back to and drove it again to CA with 170k on the dashboard and still running fine. Now I’m using this for work without issues. FYI, service your car when it’s due so you won’t have any problems later.

I am glad 😊 you have a new video out. I had a 1998 Honda Civic lx automatic. Honestly even though the problems were more prevalent in the referenced generation, mine had some of the same problems. The transmission started having problems around 15k miles, a blown head gasket, engine mount, cracked radiator, electrical issues, cracked exhaust manifold, and it was simply a tin can. Even a young lady who worked at the local honda dealership I visited stated Hondas were coming in for major service more frequently. That's probably one of the reasons why honda from a car perspective 🤔 has not grown as much as their competition specifically Toyota.

Always enjoy your informative reviews Greg! We have a 2006 Civic, but with extremely low miles (38,000 miles) but as it’s a second car, we only put a couple thousand miles on it every year. We did have a bolt that broke and took out our water pump, but have so far have avoided a cracked engine block - it’s been a great car for us.

Hey Greg! I just went over 248,000 on my 2007 civic. no engine problem yet but my clear coat on the roof is going bad. I did sand it down and sprayed some clear coat over it. so it not getting worse but still looks rough. I installed a stainless steel float in the reservoir to monitor the coolant. I ran 2 wires into the cabin and to a delay off timer the turns on a green light when fluid is at proper level and a red light is when fluid is low. changed the visors motor mount control arms, ac compressor ac clutch switch and starter. also the muffler twice. I've done all this work myself over the last 14.5 years. like driving the car and never have to add oil in between changes. I'll keep driving it for now but might go with a toyota for my next car. Thanks for the video it was well done.

My mom had a 2012 LX. Overall it was a decent car. She lived in a apartment (no garage) and the weather stripping really did dry rot. The A/C went out in 2020. But really other than that it was a breeze to own for her. Since she didn’t drive a lot when she sold it last summer it only had 65k miles and other than the weather stripping it was in real good shape! Now I on the other hand own a 2021 CR-V… I rarely drive short distances as it’s 20 miles one way to work by highway so hopefully I don’t have the dilution issue 😳

My wife has owned 5 civics to include our current 2015 that we’ve owned since new. It just turned 90k miles and has never caused me a moment’s trouble except for a noisy blower motor that I replaced myself, and I believe we’re on our third set of Michelin tires. At the last oil change I requested the brakes be replaced, not because they were giving me any trouble but just to head off any. They were still in good condition, unbelievable to me honestly. I spent 22 years selling used cars, I even opened my own Buy Here Pay Here lot in 2010 and I’ve seen a just as many shitty Hondas as I’ve seen of any other makes, honestly it’s all a bit of luck and being able to afford to maintain whatever you’ve bought. I myself drive mostly Audi and BMW’s and I’ve not had any nightmares per se but you must be prepared to pay more if a repair is needed, and you must do the routine maintenance.

i Personally own a 2012 Civic Ex model and i can add that the Cloth seats ware out fast although super comfortable, the fabric takes a while to brake in properly. Also, the button paint for the steering wheel switches will chip of extremely easily over time especially if you have long nails. interior is fairly quiet. the surround sound system for the ex model is great music sounds amazing. Overall its amazing. i have 94k miles and still going strong.

Always informative! So much so that even though my 2000 Maxima died at 199, 281 miles (after babying it with clear fuel for the last five years of her life), I found a beautiful garaged 2006 Subaru Outback with 112,000 mostly highway miles six months ago. (Slim Pickens on the Oregon Coast with dealers snatching up everything.) I wish I had found you sooner, but I watch whatever car you talk about! Thank you for being so very thorough! I found my son a babied 1990 Honda Accord in 2008 and what a little dream it was! Never a problem! At my age, I hope my Outback is the last car I have to buy...I didn't find you until after my last purchase, and I have watched your Outback video a few times and took notes!

How did you manage to kill a 3.0 maxima, ours had almost 400k with the trans slipping before it got in a major accident. The thing was crazy reliable compared to some one newer ones, even the mid 2000 ones with the later 3.5.
@49littlethoughts
@49littlethoughts 2 жыл бұрын
@@whatchis1120 Congratulations...I wish I could say the same! I am not a mechanic nor did I have the knowledge or brute strength to work on Maxines engine! I had always owned VW Buses and could work on them if not too complicated...I relied on mechanics, that apparently were not always reliable! I would tell them of the problem I was hearing or having, apparently, they didn't see or hear my concern as a problem... She had issues when I bought her with the 02 Sensors. That model was plagued with the problem so much so there were forums online about it! Many things contributed to her demise. I would say after watching Gregs video on "Breaking the Myth of Buying a Car with Low Miles" yesterday, (which I highly recommend), that the MILLIONS of cold starts I put on her the 18 years I drove her, living in a tiny town on the Oregon Coast was a major factor! It all makes sense now! So many parts needed replacing, the struts were shot which I was never told until near the end, the rear main seal gasket leak that I lived with for 11 years, got worse the last year of her life, no matter how much oil I added..The dozens of other parts inside and out that were worn out...I was willing to pay to have the problems fixed. I was told I was throwing my money away to put that much out on a near 20 year old car...(I disagreed!) I spent about $700 a year on her issues...Easier than buying another used car, not knowing what issues it would come with! Her body was beautiful and people thought she was new...thanks to Meguiars Shampoo and Conditioner! Believe me Dear @Whatchis1, it's not that I didn't try!

Hi I watched some of your videos before buying a used car 3 years ago and you were right that never buy new cars because they will have issues later on and the prices drops over the years. Second I came by watching your videos and guess what I bought a Honda Civic 9 generation and some of the issues mentioned came by door trim seals gone and my trunk reverse camera defected on me, paint quality is good and also R18Z1 engine was reinforced not to crack again so that leak was fixed and also I heard some of the models have balance shaft if that goes wrong it will cost some of the owners for the R18Z4.I have 6 speed manual gearbox it's a great car no other issues than that run smooth no ratlling and humming noises also the plastics still holds great and Thank you for this great quality content !

After a lot of research I went with the 2013 Civic for my wife. She test drove the 2013 Civic and Corolla. She liked the Civic more, and we've been happy with it. Got it with 87k on it about 2.5 years ago. She's got 130k on it now. The only issue we've had with it is the common tear in the air intake hose from the air box to the throttle body. Gonna take care of that Mon and hope that takes care of the hitch in its acceleration curve. But other than that, she's happy with it.

I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, O Lord, show this also to thy servant: whether after death, as soon as every one of us yields up his soul, we shall be kept in rest until those times come when thou wilt renew the creation, or whether we shall be tormented at once?" 76 He answered me and said, "I will show you that also, but do not be associated with those who have shown scorn, nor number yourself among those who are tormented. 77 For you have a treasure of works laid up with the Most High; but it will not be shown to you until the last times. 78 Now, concerning death, the teaching is: When the decisive decree has gone forth from the Most High that a man shall die, as the spirit leaves the body to return again to him who gave it, first of all it adores the glory of the Most High. 79 And if it is one of those who have shown scorn and have not kept the way of the Most High, and who have despised his law, and who have hated those who fear the Most High -- 80 such spirits shall not enter into habitations, but shall immediately wander about in torments, ever grieving and sad, in seven ways. 81 The first way, because they have scorned the law of the Most High. 82 The second way, because they cannot now make a good repentance that they may live. 83 The third way, they shall see the reward laid up for those who have trusted the covenants of the Most High. 84 The fourth way, they shall consider the torment laid up for themselves in the last days. 85 The fifth way, they shall see how the habitations of the others are guarded by angels in profound quiet. 86 The sixth way, they shall see how some of them will pass over into torments. 87 The seventh way, which is worse than all the ways that have been mentioned, because they shall utterly waste away in confusion and be consumed with shame, and shall wither with fear at seeing the glory of the Most High before whom they sinned while they were alive, and before whom they are to be judged in the last times. 88 "Now this is the order of those who have kept the ways of the Most High, when they shall be separated from their mortal body. 89 During the time that they lived in it, they laboriously served the Most High, and withstood danger every hour, that they might keep the law of the Lawgiver perfectly. 90 Therefore this is the teaching concerning them: 91 First of all, they shall see with great joy the glory of him who receives them, for they shall have rest in seven orders. 92 The first order, because they have striven with great effort to overcome the evil thought which was formed with them, that it might not lead them astray from life into death. 93 The second order, because they see the perplexity in which the souls of the unrighteous wander, and the punishment that awaits them. 94 The third order, they see the witness which he who formed them bears concerning them, that while they were alive they kept the law which was given them in trust. 95 The fourth order, they understand the rest which they now enjoy, being gathered into their chambers and guarded by angels in profound quiet, and the glory which awaits them in the last days. 96 The fifth order, they rejoice that they have now escaped what is corruptible, and shall inherit what is to come; and besides they see the straits and toil from which they have been delivered, and the spacious liberty which they are to receive and enjoy in immortality. 97 The sixth order, when it is shown to them how their face is to shine like the sun, and how they are to be made like the light of the stars, being incorruptible from then on. 98 The seventh order, which is greater than all that have been mentioned, because they shall rejoice with boldness, and shall be confident without confusion, and shall be glad without fear, for they hasten to behold the face of him whom they served in life and from whom they are to receive their reward when glorified. 99 This is the order of the souls of the righteous, as henceforth is announced; and the aforesaid are the ways of torment which those who would not give heed shall suffer hereafter." 100 I answered and said, "Will time therefore be given to the souls, after they have been separated from the bodies, to see what you have described to me?" 101 He said to me, "They shall have freedom for seven days, so that during these seven days they may see the things of which you have been told, and afterwards they shall be gathered in their habitations." 102 I answered and said, "If I have found favor in thy sight, show further to me, thy servant, whether on the day of judgment the righteous will be able to intercede for the unrighteous or to entreat the Most High for them, 103 fathers for sons or sons for parents, brothers for brothers, relatives for their kinsmen, or friends for those who are most dear." 104 He answered me and said, "Since you have found favor in my sight, I will show you this also. The day of judgment is decisive and displays to all the seal of truth. Just as now a father does not send his son, or a son his father, or a master his servant, or a friend his dearest friend, to be ill or sleep or eat or be healed in his stead, 105 so no one shall ever pray for another on that day, neither shall any one lay a burden on another; for then every one shall bear his own righteousness and unrighteousness." 2 Esdras 7:75 /////////////////////////////////

Thank you for this detailed video, I really value your opinions on buying used cars.. I will add something very important to this video however, it may have been useful to be clear that this information relates to Honda cars sold in North America, that may seem obvious to US viewers but KZbin Is a global platform and I’m sure you have many international viewers like myself. I’ve bought used Hondas from Japan, Thailand and UK and the model names may be identical and even the generation and years of manufacture but the cars themselves are very very different. Perhaps coincidentally those are all RIght Hand Drive countries, but for sure there are differences in models with the same name. Your advice regarding buying garage kept cars is priceless, I always look for garage kept cars with full main dealer history from the supplying dealer, they can be hard to find but are rarely priced much higher than street kept cars with sketchy history.

I have a 2012 sedan with 5 speed auto (86K current miles). I got it used in 2015 for my daughter and took it over when she got a Jeep. I've had no problems with it. It's a great, fun little car and I love the mileage. Wow, does it sit low to the ground but it handles very good. Maintenance is easy & straightforward except changing the teeny battery causes the stereo to freak out (the code is on the side of the glove compartment). I agree about the seat fabric. All in all I really like mine. I usually get all the hand-me-down vehicles in my family and this one was a win for me.

'12 Civic owner here. The paint issue is definitely true for my car, doesn't help that the Florida sun has basically turned it into a heaping mess. I cannot attest to the Bluetooth problem though since mine doesn't have it equipped. It's also easily been not just the most reliable car I've driven but also amongst my family; just a few days ago my odometer finally hit the 150k mark, but it still feels like it has plenty more driving left. One quirk with the Civic I'm not sure how many people can attest to is the VSA and power steering lights will seemingly randomly appear, but disappear once you get on the road. Some people say it happens when the steering rack gets really hot when doing slow driving with tight turning, but I'm unable to replicate it consistently.

My 2007 Lx was actually decent. I got it used in mid 2020, with 120k miles, in the couple years I had it the only things I had issues with was, the paint mainly on the grill area/and bumper, also has the power steering issue, (don't pay for aftermarket power steering because they will persistently cause issues) had to have it done twice due to the first one being a new aftermarket which didn't have a proper fit and was causing it to leak worse than ever. Had to do the motor mounts at 124k. The only other issue I had was the ac. Redid the whole ac all brand new, however the issue still went on, during stop lights or busy traffic the cabin is so hot, the ac don't blow cold.... However if I drove on a highway consistent speed, zero issues with ac. Oct was 2 ish years having it and unfortunately it got totaled because people can't drive haha and like to cut in front of ya in a center turn lane... I had only paid 4500 for it 2 yrs ago and got the value of 6500 for it...so honestly I didn't really lose any money lol

I own a 2007 Honda civic hybrid currently with 425,000 miles on it, and still running good.However I have replaced the engine, and transmission twice with used ones.The first engine went out at about 300,000 miles.The hybrid battery pack was replaced by Honda dealership at slightly less than 150,000 miles, but still holding good so far. Every electrical component on the dashboard works like new.The AC and heater still good.The fabric seats are like new, the doors and power windows are still great, and the rubber seals on the still good, except the one on the driver's side. I have replaced all the bearings, radiator, and catalytic converter, and oxygen sensors. I just love this car, and wont sell it.My goal is to hit 1 million miles on it.

Just ran across your channel. Very nice, informative video. I bought a used 2013 Civic LX and it's been awesome with the exception of 2 things. About every 1.5 years, the tray along the underside of the car falls off or breaks off and I have to pay to have it replaced. The other thing is the rotting window seals that you mentioned in your video. Aside from that, it's been a great car. I'm looking to buy a newer, used model to get some more bells and whilstles than what my 2013 has. I'd love to purchase a new, 2023 model, but just can't afford that.

There is also, I forget what they call it problem that wears out the back tires prematurely. Other than that, great running little car that is currently up for sale. We just purchased a new Rav4 Premium. Time will tell how this car will work out for us.

A huge fan of your channel and a socal driver here. I’ve seen your reviews on civic and Chevy volt. Which do you think is a more reliable, cheaper to maintain car? Thinking 2012-2014 Civic Vs 2012-2014 Volt. I’ve owned a volt but was crashed by an 18 wheeler truck backing into my still car, it was then totaled. I loved that car but too short lived. That’s why thinking a Honda civic might be a more viable purchase considering more parts are available and less likely a frontal accident would be totaled?

Brake lines were PVF coated but did eventually succumb to the harsh corrosive environment. Fav feature is the HVAC heat from the little 1.7 motor, hotter than the big V8 in my truck.

Good you haven’t had any issues with your automatic transmission yet. Just make sure you keep up with fluid changes. I can’t stress enough to do them around every third oil change. Honda fluid only. And look into changing inline filter also. It is down near the bottom of radiator.

Greg, I bought a used Civic in 2019. Model year 2010. I bought it with 132,000 miles. It now has 152,000. To date, I had one tire pressure sensor installed. A new battery at 151,000 miles ( I am working temporarily in NW Minnesota and with wind chills of 40-50- below, it took about 10 seconds to turn over. I had the battery tested and was told it was rated at 67% life. It could have been the brutal cold affecting the battery. And a few days ago I had the transmission fluid changed. Everything appears routine without any major expenses.

I feel like newer gen cars are almost lacking up in those aspects a bit..
