Great video. The Rek D was also assembled in Belgium and Switzerland, mostly sold under the "Ranger by GM" brand. They got a different front treatment with quad headlights and a power bulge on the hood, which made it look a bit sportier. Also it was assembled in South Africa as the Chevrolet 2500/3800/4100 range. 2500 was a four cylinder 2,5 and 3800/4100 were sixes of 3,8 and 4,1lit capacity, engines being variations of the GM blue flame series. They also had this power bulge on the hood to compensate the height of the engines. 2500 had the Rekord headlights and the sixes had the Ranger style quad headlights and slightly larger grille.

I can see how this Opel design influenced the styling of the mid-sized Holden Torana and Sunbird here in Australia (models LH - UC, 1974 - 1980). Engine options here ranged from a 1.9L 4 cyl up to a 5.0L V8.

If *I* remember correctly the initial lineup was 17N - 60 hp, 17S - 75 hp, 17SH - 83 hp (as "H" for high compression), 19N - 75 hp (later replaced the 17S), 19S - 90 hp (same as in the Opel GT), 19SH - 97 hp (where the "H" was for hydraulic lifters - first at Opel in the 4-cylinders). There were some reduced power options regarding the 17N, which was available with 55 hp for some markets and a 65 or 70hp 17S-variant, mainly for the CaraVan IIRC.

11:20 And it was the last generation. After that "internationality" was applied at GM and the successor was the Opel Omega. They deleted the old names and also dropped the Kadett name in favour for the Astra. You forgot to mention the ill-fated 17SH engine with 83 hp. It was a high compression engine and the lead reduction on automobile fuel after 1974 largely killed it due to a tendency to knock. My dad had it in his ocre Rekord D. Combined with a 70 liter fuel tank and a trailer hitch it was supposed to pull our caravan. But the four speed gearbox was stupidly geared. At legal 80 km/h it was too high for 3rd gear - and to low for 4th. Usually we ran on our tours in 4th at a 100 km/h ... ;-)

I know that you did. On the engines the letters switch meanings from time to time. N and S stay the same, but H did not. Later the E was added and on the 6-cylinders H marked a high output engine with carbs. 😊
