After watching this, l think whoever invented or designed the carburetor had to be a genious. There are some very simple but extremely efficient.

My truck , a 69 f-100 has this carb. On a 300 6cyl. Thanks Mike. I get very good gas mileage, since it is a small one. This carb originally was on 56 Ford truck with a 223 6 cyl. motor which had a mpg of over 20, easy. I guess that's the reason my dad hung on to the YF carb.

Thanks mike that video was just what I needed. I do wish you would have talked a little about the balls that come in a kit and what to do with them. Those needle valve check ball thingys are what make me second guess myself. The screwing part I got. Maybe a supplement video? Thanks so much tho.

Hi Mike. This is the best video I've found for explaining things but it has been 10 years since you posted it. The resolution at 240p is hard for me to see. I would like to ask you the favor of reloading this to KZbin at higher resolution or creating a new video. Regardless, thank you!
@sidragasum2008

@@MikesCarburetor at 240p the resolution is blurry. I can't increase the video resolution because that is what you originally uploaded it as back in 2010. At first, I skipped past this video looking for other newer videos with better resolution. But your video in terms of explaining what you were doing was the best. I followed you along on the video step by step while I rebuilt my YF 938SD carburetor. So thank you for the content you've created!

@@MikesCarburetor It's not on his end. I strained my eyes to try and see the accelerator check weight and with the blurry resolution of this video, it is very hard to see if it matches up to what I am seeing in my kit. We're all spoiled by 1080P resolution these days, lol. It would also be nice if in your video, you explained which of the 3 check balls to use in the event that you don't have the tapered type weight. Unfortunately my check ball and weight (or tapered check weight, I'm not sure which) was missing when I got the carburetor, so I am just guessing as to whether it is the tapered weight or weight and ball style that applies. I am hoping that I'm right in guessing that the brass piece that is in one of the two float needle and seat baggies, is the check weight.

Mine is a 3211S. A little different. I'm wondering about a hole on the side, but it looks like it's in the middle on there. The hole has a hole in the gasket for it, but it seems plugged up with something. Not sure if it's supposed to be like that or if it's crud that got jammed in there? Well. It actually looks like lead, to close it off, as it seems to go to the choke, that has been made into a manual choke, and it's missing parts.

Hello I am rebuilding a carter yf 4480s that I plan to install on a chevy 230 engine. It is replacing a rochester b. I am just wondering if you sell a throttle arm extension (probably not the correct terminology) that would work so that I could use the vehicles existing throttle linkage. The yf's arm is 180 degrees off from the bv. If not no big deal. Thanks for all the videos and selling all the great hard to find carburetor parts.

Mike,my YF on a 74 AMC Hornet is a reman and it runs great but after about 15 minutes it starts leaking,I figured the float valve is not doing its job or the mechanical fuel pump is over powering it.I squeezed the rubber fuel line and it ran great and no leak.This is the 2nd carb that did the exact same thing.Fuel re-stricter needed?Thanks Mike.Great videos

This sounds like my problem too. Actually had no problem. I had to pull it off the intake manifold while replacing exhaust manifold on a FMC 300. Just decided to rebuild since the kit was only $16. Now it will start & idle just fine, but on quick acceleration or WOT it will stumble & stall. Slow & steady acceleration is fine. HELP

is the metering rod what pulls the throttle pump down to operate it? I'm dealing with an old yf that fire some reason has had the sides of the metering rod ground flat on the end..
@hangfire5005
@hangfire5005 8 жыл бұрын
Mikes Carburetor thanks for the response, I will look for another metering rod, I'm trying to figure out what makes the throttle pump move down to prime it, this one was bodged to make or pull down with the linkage, I put it together what I think is correct and the throttle pump floats on it's spring with the lever down out of the way but I don't see what pulls it down..

editing all of the fumbling-dropping of tools-finding screws-driving screws in(fast forward) would make this a much better video. also-show every step-not half done so everyone just watches you screw in screws. right? craftsman makes screwdrivers that wont cause you to run off the screw and re acquire it several times each screw. this was a 3 minute video that took 14 minutes and 43 seconds. I'm just saying.
