To be fair he had more confidence than most non car guys would because he had all the tools needed and back up mechanic mates in Alex & Jack in the event he got stuck or did something wrong. But yeah, it's nice to see that he was willing to give it a go.

I’m a non petrol head, couldn’t point out the turbo on my car to be honest. But watching these videos with Ethan doing stuff gave me the confidence to change over my rear bumper after my parking sensors failed and I reversed into something, not sure I have the confidence to change anything mechanically yet, at least not on my 2016 f21. But I’ll give changing the brake pads a go just not the discs. Baby steps lol
@edgarmichaelperezruvalcaba77444 жыл бұрын
John Peterson honestly if you are doing your pads and you also need to do the rotors, pads are like 80% of the job, the rotors are the easy part of the job, just undo 2 screws, clean the new ones and fit them. As easy as that. I find more labor on the pads than in the rotors.

One small piece of Dad advice, don't wear your rings when working on anything, so easy for one to get snagged and rip, break or do worse to your finger.

One more concerning but often overlooked advice is to grease the Slider Pins aswel. Binding/Uneven pad wear and squeaking brakes are often symptoms of dry Slider Pins.

One thing Eathn forgot to do, is that he should of taken off the brake fuild reservoir cap, so that the air is not trapped inside the reservoir when Ethan pushes the pistons back into the calipers.

Should probably have kept an eye on the brake fluid reservoir when winding in all four calipers. Last time I did discs and pads on a car I forgot and ended up with alot of brake fluid in the engine bay
@dillonbmx164 жыл бұрын
That's because someone added brake fluid when they shouldn't have.
@themoppie10004 жыл бұрын
@@dillonbmx16 I was hoping they would top it up before starting, just to see Ethans face when fluid starts dripping out of the engine bay.
@revolutionday14 жыл бұрын
That's why I crack my bleeder screws on the caliper before pushing the piston back in. Just top the reservoir off for how ever little bit you end up losing, and bada~bing.
@notmenotme6143 жыл бұрын
Changing brake pads and discs is actually one of the easiest jobs on a car. Easy access and only a 8 bolts. It’s hard to get wrong. I’d double check the owners manual for the correct jacking location under the car, so you don’t damage the floor pan. The oily residue on the new brake discs are to stop them corroding while on the shelf. I would also give the mounting brackets a clean as well, so the slots that the pads slide in are free of brake dust. I used a thick screwdriver laid horizontally across the brake piston to push it in, or I suppose you could use the breaker bar laid across. I find it helps if you unscrew the brake reservoir cap.
