Atleast he already had his license. A classmate of mine was days away from getting her license (she had to pass the practical test, but already had all her lessons and passed the theoretical exam) when she decided to go and buy a pack of cigarettes. She backed out of the driveway and immediately crashed into another car. Needless to say she didn't get her driver's license. A friend of my brother, who had gotten his license suspended (either for DUI or because of speeding, I don't actually remember anymore) once called my brother asking to tow him, because his car was in a ditch. It was quite a rural road, but he was still lucky that the police didn't pass by and nobody called them.

For those coming here from an audio only source of this Podcast; 50:35 is the moment Ethan guesses (insert item name here) with the 'visual drama' after, to not be too specific for those who haven't watched/listened that far. Edit; For those who do not wish to digest that visual drama, 53:11 is basically the end of it, where discussion changes in case you wish to want to pickup what's after that, however, total end of 'visual drama' is 53:29 .

The insurance thing after a no-fault claim drives me nuts too - happened to me after some dumb bint smashed into the back of my Celica on the A1 because she was too busy drinking her coffee to see that traffic had stopped. The Celica was a write-off, so I bought back my old Puma (needed _something_ to tide me over) and they initially refused to insure it at all because of some computer problem. When they finally sorted it out, it was on the condition that it was a temporary car. So I got my current ZS180, and they initially wanted to hold me to the contract at a premium hike from £350 to £1800-ish. Then, in the time that it took for me to mull over my options and argue a bit, they changed their minds entirely and flat-out refused to insure me on it (I'm 43 with no previous accidents except this one which they'd already established was the other driver's fault). Then they actually refused to cancel the old policy, and wanted to hold me to another 11 months of it!!! Finally got it sorted after a week of stress and extremely strongly-worded emails (not to mention some choice legally-scary words from the solicitor who was handling my injury claim), they let it go and cancelled the policy, worded as though they were doing me an extreme favour. Worked out OK in the end, because I went elsewhere and actually ended up with better cover for £40/year less than they wanted to insure the Puma. Just goes to show...never, ever take your insurance company's word for it. And if that fails...helps if you've got an indignant lawyer in your back pocket.

You are right about the DSG gearbox particularly approaching junctions or roundabouts. You have to learn how to drive them. They predict what gear you want next, so you have to adjust your driving style appropriately. When you do, you can have them predict the right gear for every occasion! And no, the software hasn't been upgraded! :)

On the subject of that great insurance Con. I've been driving for 16 years, with 14 of which running two cars with two different insurance policies. No points no claims until 2017. I was rear ended while stationary twice in the space of 6 months by bellends playing with their phones instead of concentrating on driving. I went from £600 all in for insuring a declared modified Impreza and a 25k miles a year commuter golf. To £600 just for the golf and £1500 for the Impreza. Its completely unfair and a complete con! Not to mention some twat just ran into the side of me back in August so I'm expecting even more of the same crap. 😤

Guys, love the channel, keep going. For Arne (the hit and run guy) Pro-Tip : Save business cards, especially from people you don't like, in the glove box of your car. Whenever you hit someone else's car, just take one out, write on the back "sorry for hitting your car" and stick it under one of the whipers. Job done!! No, just kidding. What a giant mess, and lots of costs for you and your parents. Good story.

As a guy with dyslexia and Irlen's Syndrome, I can fully sympathies and relate to Gareth's difficulty with reading and reading out loud. Its a genuine struggle that plagues people's lives and I'm glad I've been diagnosed now but almost 18 years of not being diagnosed and not being able to read well at all was not fun for various reasons.
@rjpm924 жыл бұрын
I didn't realise I had Irlen until a teacher at my uni with it started listing 'symptoms'. It's not major for me, mainly affecting by ability to sight-read music (I was studying classical piano), but I was amazed at the effect the different colour lenses had on my abilities to read text when I was getting tested. Green and blue filters had me completely missing whole lines of text. Ended up getting glasses with a mix of pink and yellow lenses that basically made a light brown tint and it changed so much. I was wondering if he had it when I was listening to him read and then read your comment.
@willpearse38814 жыл бұрын
@@rjpm92 I'm glad you got diagnosed in the end :) for me it was struggling to read both text and music (singer and saxophonist), and massively slowing me down and effecting me both in class and exams, as well as just general pain in day to day life in particular with certain contrasts or light intensity. I ended up finding a dark green tint works best and i remember the first time reading a sentence at the optician he said it was an immediate improvement it was crazy aha. Idk if Gareth has it or not, and its not our place to know or question really, I just hope that he's ok and that he knows what may be the cause, if any, behind it.

The most disgusting thing i've had in my mouth, I was at a party, a few too many drinks had been consumed, and you know whats funny, when your mates are in the kitchen and you're outside and you notice a slug and decide to pretend to kiss it, when your friend stood behind you pushes your head into the window and you draw a sharp breath in from the shock and end up sucking the whole slug into your mouth and half way down your throat, then spend the next 30 or so minutes heaving like a dog thats swallowed grass and washing your mouth out with everything from mouthwash to straight vodka. I can still remember the consistancy of popped slug in my mouth to this day, sort of a rice pudding mixed with grit, but flavoured like a puddle. Hope this gives you a laugh, my mates found it hilarious! Love what you're doing keep up the good work! Much love, Nik

@MyRegardsToTheDodo4 жыл бұрын
I nearly did a "Hit and run" thing myself when I was quite young. I navigated on a parking lot (near our local train station, very narrow, I never park there if I can find anything else) and bumped into another car ever so slightly. I took of the top layer of paint with the edge of my bumper, the impact point (if you want to call it that) was about the size of a 10-cent-piece. It was 2002 or 2003 and I didn't have a cellphone by then, so I drove through town to the police and reported what happened. They were peeved, because technically I had left the scene of an accident, so basically a hit & run. They told me to get back there and they'd send a squad car. That's what I did. Took them about an hour or so to send the car over (not really high priority, I guess) and during that time I looked at the other car quite a bit. I definitely wasn't the first one to bump into it, it had quite a lot of scratches and even some at the same spot that definitely couldn't have been caused by my car (I had nothing else to do, so I used my leg to measure them). When the squad car finally came, the two policemen agreed with me and even noted that on the form they left behind the car's windshield wiper. I handed in all the neccessary forms to my (parents') ensurance company (the car was in their name, because costs) but never heard anything about it ever again. I am pretty sure the owner of the car I bumped into never even bothered reporting it to his or her insurance company. I removed the specks of paint I had scratched off with fine sanding paper from my bumper the next time I cleaned my car (1989 VW Polo 86C Beach Edition), it had these black plastic bumpers that weren't smooth, so the paint came off without leaving a mark. My parents never found out about this. The Polo was a great little car, my first own car and if I'd get the chance I'd buy it again, but they are hard to find in decent condition these days. The one I had I sold to my sister two or three years later, and she flipped it (no, she didn't sell it for a quick buck, it ended up on it's roof). She wasn't hurt, though, but the car was done for. I still have the key somewhere (and considering how bad/worn out the locks are by now could probably open a lot of other VW Polos from that era with it).

Enjoy this on my morning commute down the m4 to carmarthenshire good content lads. Also insurance info when you have a none fault accident you are statistically speaking more likely to have a fault accident the following term as you may become a more nervous driver so your premiums will go up. If you have a fault accident then your premiums generally speaking would be lower the next term as you would be less likely to have another through being more cautious.
@ewanroberts1324 жыл бұрын
Insurance companies won't increase your premiums if you're involved in a non fault accident in which they recover all costs from the other side. Insurance premiums can go up due to many factors and accident history is only one of those. I know everyone hates insurance companies but still

Cool cars from post 2000, i.e. last 20 years; Hyundai I30 N Skoda Yeti Bugatti Veyron (although development was started in the 90's so technically a 90's design/car so perhaps not) Toyota GT86 (I think it's more a throwback to the AE86 so owes its birth to an 80's car, so also not a recent new car) The same goes for recent Fiesta STs, Focus RS's, Evos, Imprezas, first gen all before 2000. Black series Mercs are just hot versions of models from before 2000 or models that are throwbacks to models pre-2000, C63 AMG Black Series, the W202 was a 90's car, SLS AMG Black Series, throwback to the SL300 gullwing, a lot of other cars are like that too. Volkswagen Up! came after the Lupo which was developed in the 90's Ferrari La Ferrari McLaren P1 Porsche 918 Ferrari FF KTM XBow That's a few I can think of that don't owe their birth directly to another car, to my knowledge anyway. Edit; adding Dacia Sandero, how could I forget such a car. :)

I told him I didn't want to bother with insurance and that it would cost £200 for me to fix it because it needed a new air conditioning condenser. The only "crashes" I've ever had were in a parking lot backed into a black parked car on 2 different occasions both at night different cars and both of them could have been prevented by a backup camera but both times it cracked there head light bought them new ones and on our way less the cost of insurance premiums but if we would have taken it to a shop it would have been over $3000 Or a $300 head light

to the guy wanting an SUV, the Ford Kuga is a really spacious, reliable and efficient car, would recommend to anyone who needs a medium size SUV

In relation to worse things I've had in my mouth question: I once had a Desperado beer (the ones mixed with tequila and are incredibly sugary) on a window sill. Left it there for a short while, probably 10-15 mins. In that time, without noticing, an army of ants had climbed up and into the tin. Needless to say, when I took a swig I swallowed a fair few. A very odd sensation to feel ants climbing up ones throat.
