The last year (july / 2019) I had a beautiful 1 month experience (to be carthusian father and know the carthusian life) in the Charterhouse of San José de Córdoba. Was one of the most important and beauty experiences of my life (Spiritual searching, Silence, Solitude and friendship), I was very happy there. Maybe I will enter the next year or 2022.

This video was part of my discernment of 2 years to return to the Catholic faith. I contacted the uk monastery at Parkminster to say a couple of masses for my intentions, not mine. They also prayed for me. Because of the Carthusians and the Birmingham UK Oratory my faith, after nearly 45 years has returned. I still fail but feel safe.

At 10:45pm the monks are still asleep, having retired about 8pm after Compline said in cell. Individual alarm clock in cell at 11:30pm for Office of Our Lady said in cell. The bell rings at 12 midnight for Night Office in the Oratory; Matins and Lauds (aka Night Office) conclude between 2am-3:20am depending upon duration of the liturgy specified for that date: either ferial office, or 3 lesson feast, or 12 lesson feast. Yes, they are holy men well to be emulated. The prior general, Rev. Ven. Dom Dysmas is outstanding. I encourage you to join them.

Well, it seems a very fulfilling life, but very sleep deprived! I don’t know how they stay awake to do the reading and everything they do! But then I used to live on three hours of sleep daily for many years, because I worked a lot to take care of my family and I prayed a lot. So it’s doable! I just have to have more sleep than that nowadays because my body won’t take it anymore.

Feliz Navidad.

hi , I've always been very drawn to and very confused by the Carthusian order , but find a kindred spirit in our friend St. Bruno and always have wondered if it is really possible to be allowed to live like this ?! - by the way , the video ( music and pictures ) is drop-dead , over-the-top , pinch-yourself-to-wake-up - STUNNING ! very poetically thoughtful work ! - I know you never speak about yourselves , but is there a way to find substantial information ? anyway HAPPY FEAST OF SAINT BRUNO - ( are you allowed to celebrate his feast day ? )

We were made to carry our crosses, and to me, the faces are of deep contemplation, of reflection of God. I don't see any of them burdened. They are immensely blessed. If the world lived as God wanted us too, we would all be 'burdened', but we would find try joy in it.

Is it possible all These Men are scared of the world and this place is just a womb like sanctuary? Seems nice for about three days
@poe514 Жыл бұрын
They are not afraid of the world, they are face to face with all the evil the world has. This is a special calling to pray for the world in silence because the world needs these type of men and women (Carthusians) who can see beyond the materialistic world most people live in. They are somewhat the backbone of the world, if it were not for their prayers the world would be a different place. The walls around them are not to protect them or hide them but to keep them focused on what they are supposed to do. They are fighting spiritual battles, the devil hates what they do.
@poe514 Жыл бұрын
It’s much more than you might think. These men(Carthusian) give up meals only eating once a day, they give up their families and friends, they give up the beauty of the world and all the things it has to offer. They are never in scandal, this order has been the same since being founded by St Bruno. All this because of the Love they have for the world and most important for God and his church. If you ever meet a Carthusian monk you’ll see how beautiful they act and how social they are. They are not running from the world.
@davidtombs7385 Жыл бұрын
They are most certainly not running from the world, they love it and God thats why they work so hard for us whether choir or lay brothers. They face a very arduous process of even being selected for the postulancy, which so few manage. Only 1 in 9 postulants make it to novices, and only 1 in 4 make it through that stage. They are psychologically tested and are very stable individuals. I am anglican and I really give thanks for them for the work they do for all of us.
