A contestant did try to slap Gordon once, he effortlessly caught it like it was nothing while calmly saying to her "don't be stupid". Gordon is a black belt and is respected in the European martial arts community. As for why he treats them like that its actually a love tap compared to how Gordon was trained. There's stories of his teacher throwing red hot skillets at his staff, pouring pasta sauce all over a chef and physically slapping people. Apparently it was quite common for top chefs to treat their students like this as they strive for absolute perfection and only the people who can handle the abuse are deemed worthy enough to be in their kitchen, idk how it is now but that's how it was when Gordon was coming up and he's moved away from most of that stuff as in his own words it isn't right to treat people that way so instead he keeps it verbal but also acknowledges when they do something right so they know he's only yelling cause he knows they can do better

It all boils down to Gordon wanting these chefs to be the best they can be. On his shows with kids, he is very loving but can be firm, because he knows their potential. I love me some Gordon Ramsay.
@jeffrconner2 жыл бұрын
Well, two things. Everybody coming on the show knows Ramsey's attitude, and it is truly how he is, because they've shown him in his early days in his own actual kitchens (just as harsh). It was how he was treated by head chefs when he was coming up through the system. Outside of the kitchen, or with non-professional chefs, he's incredibly nice. Secondly, the guy is 6 ft 2, a former professional soccer player, and, I think, both boxes and has a black belt. So most would be unwise to step to him. Also, most of the contestants put up with his attitude because he does a lot of counseling and instruction both on and off the camera. So it's not all slamming them down. He is one of the most lauded chefs in the world. Bobby Flay is someone I love too, and I think it would totally depend on the dish. I think overall, Gordon probably has him. Just not on beef brisket barbecue, or something like that.:-) More Gordon, and happy 23rd! ;-)

Truth. Gordon has said in interviews that he's much easier on people with Master Chef bc those people are usually home cooks with great talent. I don't think he ever yells on that show. Hell's Kitchen are people that are chefs and cooks who are used to a hostile restaurant kitchen environment.

No And his restaurant is famous and it has good ratings etc. You'll have sum expectations if you go there obviously. He's the face for it and they fuck it up for him when they don't deliver on their part. The kitchen truly is based on teamwork. The reason Gordon gets so angry at these people is that they're training to become headchef. They can't even handle the stress of a fast kitchen, so he gets angry. Hell, they've had a pizza and a salad come back to the kitchen. If they can't cook quickly and efficiently in a fast-paced environment, then how are they gonna be headchef? I definitely recommend seeing him interacting with kids on a cooking show. It's such a difference, cause kids are still learning. They're allowed to make mistakes. These people here have claimed to be professionals. We're all quickly realizing they're not. Well, they COULD hit Gordon Ramsay, but he has a black belt in karate. I believe he did get into a scuffle with someone recently. Gordon had minor injuries, but they didn't say what happened to the other guy.
@beakersgarage3832 жыл бұрын
Not only are they in the running for becoming the Head Chef at high end restaurants, but most of these people hold titles such as Sous Chef or Executive Chef before coming on the show. He has high expectations because to reach that level you should already have the basics down. An Executive or Sous Chef should already know how to properly make a risotto or cook basic proteins or tourney vegetables or any of the myriad of other tasks they perform on the show before going into black jacket status.

With Gordon, understand that any show you see him on, that's him. Sometimes I think he might crank himself to 11 for tv, but I fully believe that that is how he is. On Kitchen Nightmares, those are professional cooks, and they often have egos and attitudes. So apart from his expectations that they shouldn't be fucking up as bad as they do, I think he also wants to humble them a bit. He chews into the ones who aren't as ego filled because that's how he was taught and how chefs at his level are. Michael Jordan was a known dickhead too, but he expected perfection. Gordon is that but for cooking.

Ramsay has explained before that he only treats these chefs how he does because they’re supposed to be competent professional level chefs. Not… this😂

Happy belated B-Day, my dear! Crow! I have underwear older than you fellows!! Haha! I met Gordan Ramsey when he was at an event in Alberta Canada. He has a crazy sense of humor. We had great laughs all night long!!

Very few would get physical with him and not expect to get absolutely handled. He's an experienced martial artist, 6'2", a professional athlete and has the meanness of a thug. He has a harsh background growing up as well. I'm 6'0, 210 and muscular, and have 9 years of tae kwon do, 3 years of Muay Thai and a year so far of Shaolin kung fu in my background and I still probably wouldn't test him. Not worth it. I also happen to have a level of respect for him. He's accomplished more in his life than probably 99% of the working population.

Cooking was my life. And sometimes it saddens me that Gordon is only known for his persona. He is the only chef I've ever heard of that had 3 restaraunts all get Michelson stars at the same time. But to be honest.. back in the day this was how the head chef always talked to the sous and food preps. Especially the French chefs. We were pirates in the kitchen. And after service was done it wasn't uncommon to go out back and settle it with a fist fight.

Applying to be on Hell’s Kitchen and getting mad at him for yelling at you is like ordering a hot chocolate and being pissed that it isn’t cold.
