Use classic 3D renderer, add gradient ramp to whichever circle you want, set the colors and the points and play with the blend with original/ blend modes

Great stuff man! Learning all sorts of stuff from you. Awesome to see someone sharing their knowledge like this! I was wondering, do you have any problems with previewing your footage or rendering? I just bought a really nice machine with 64GB of RAM and a Threadripper CPU and it doesn't flow half as good as it does on your machine it seems. Really unhappy with how poor AE seems to use the power of my computer.

Well, I do edit the boring parts out of a tutorial. So I wouldn't judge machine performance based on tutorial content. But I keep a clean machine over here. Limit my background processes and give most of the resources over to the active application. Also when I'm doing intense work I'm previewing at 1/4 or 1/3 res to speed it along.

Not much more to it. The coloured circle is just a shape layer as matte for some moving other shape layers in a precomp. The explosion we pretty much do in this tut. And the shake is just position keys. C’est tout.

So, linking the radial blue is not what makes the edges hard. The curves effect makes the edges hard. Then the matte choker makes the edges a little less hard. Does that make sense? We link the radial blur of the individual layers to the radial blur of the adjustment layer only so we do not have keyframes on each individual layer.

Love the tutorial! This is probably a simple question, but how did you duplicate the circle layer while keeping the starting point the same and changing the end point?

I think this may be a few things. Duplicating layers is as easy as command+d. everything about the layer would be the same if you duplicate it. And I change the endpoints by just clicking and dragging them around. Maybe I skipped over the stuff that wasn't germane to the technique we were covering?

The start and end position keyframes will be duplicated with the layer. The important thing is to keep the playhead on second keyframe before duplicating, then when you move the newly duplicated layer, the final position will change but the start position will stay the same. If that makes sense...

At which part? I don't think I use any kind of wobbling expression in the whole thing. I do some keyframes on the planet before it explodes, but that's about it.

I'm not sure if it's a common technique, but it's a common look people try to achieve. There are many techniques to achieve this motion and look though.

I love this video & effect! However, when I put the 3D camera on & start changing the depth for each object, the original start point ( centre all together so it looks like 1 round circle ) has been effected, if i shift this all in together then it effects the way it looks once burst, do you have an idea on what I'm doing wrong?

This would be cool too use as a transition. Would you mind doing a video on transparent background (.WebM) format without a black background? I know that is very specific, but it is wracking my brain as to why when I convert the video to WebM, there's a black background.

I'll be honest, I had to look up what .webM is. Are you rendering out of the media encoder for that? I'm not even sure how we get from Ae to WebM specifically. Is there a plugin required?

No, I'm not rendering out of media encoder. .webM is a format that is suppose to keep transparency and have a smaller file size. I render the file out of AE in a quicktime format to get RGB+Alpha. That part works great, but it gives a huge file size. 1GB for like 30 seconds of video. The transparency is there, but I'll convert to .webM and things go wrong from there. The file size is made smaller, but there's a black background in place of the transparency. I use Wondershare Video Converter Ultimate to convert to .webM. One I convert the file in the program it spits it out with a black background. That is where the file dies for me. I would love too keep the transparency with a small file size, but with all I've read I don't know if that can be done yet. There are free online converters, but I don't want to go that route. Sorry for the long comment. Thanks for responding back too.

The file will be used in a program called OBS. .mov can work as well, but it's just too large. the .webM will make the file smaller, while keeping transparency. That is why I'd prefer .webM. Smaller file size.

I would suggest looking deeper into the thing that is doing the converting. Likely there is an advanced setting or a check box. I don't know anything about the program you're using though. If you need a video format with transparency for OBS and streaming needs, maybe some of these are suitable: www.digitalrebellion.com/blog/posts/list_of_video_formats_supporting_alpha_channels.html, however, most formats that allow for alpha channels are also larger than those that do not. It's a whole other channel so we can expect there will be more data right?

the movement of the circles is just a positional change with the speed graph altered as we do in the tutorial. Acceleration is high right away then slows to almost nothing over time. The shakey planet is just a change of position and rotation every few frames.

I'm just hitting command+d (ctrl+d on windows). That duplicates a layer and anything about it. Just makes a duplicate of that layer as it is presently.

That's likely what I'm hitting. U U will call up anything that has been changed about the layer from the default or baseline.

sounds like we're talking about a physics simulation right? You'll need a plugin like Newton to make that happen I believe.

I'm doing something wrong here. when i try the step in the 2 views window the shapes don't move forwards or backwards in the plane. instead it's adding more movement after the initial burst. i've restarted the tutorial from scratch twice now and keep having the same problem.

Not many. Mostly it's for automation of tasks that would be unpleasant to repeat for an hour. So I like Rift and Lazy for that I suppose. Joysticks and sliders are neat. Overlord is really the only one that gets the ECAbrams fav button for being a daily use.

I am adding the curves to the adjustment layer and it is not giving the hard edges when adjusting the curves alpha AE 2019 any ideas what’s going wrong

Hard to say. Are all the dimensions the same?

ECAbrams yes the dimensions are the same, I apply the centres zoom at 250 and then apply the curves, when I pull over the handle on the alpha channel nothing really changes, it just looks slightly darker and not affected by the curves at all

I'm not totally sure which font we're talking about. But in Ae you can apply a gradient effect to any layer you like, even text layers. Does that help?

Great tutorial - I only found you recently but am so glad I did. Your videos are f-ing hilarious and a joy to watch and follow along to. So I added an extra circle with the Star burst effect which had the effect of creating a bunch more 'stars' to the warp. I think it looks pretty cool: kzbin.info/www/bejne/rminY5x6ds5-fbc. But when I animated the radial blur back to zero when the new planet comes into view of course all the stars appear to shoot back into the centre rather than towards the outside, if that makes sense. Any suggestions?
