This is honestly my second favorite film. I was absolutely fascinated by the fluidity of the animation, and how seamlessly the toons and the humans played off each other (which Mary Poppins, a film I had seen in my childhood, completely failed at). I wanted to pry open the minds of the animators and figure out whether or not they used magic. Thankfully, a few years later, the BlueRay re-release came out and explained all of how they managed such a glorious feat (no craniotomies required), but the wonder still never fades watching this movie.

It would be awesome if we got another movie like this where humans and cartoons interact. It doesn't have to be another Roger Rabbit (though that would be sweet) or involve crossovers with cartoons (which would be glorious), its just such an interesting and visually awesome concept that needs to be explored more.

A couple facts you forgot to mention was that the original author Gary K Wolf loved the film even though it was not accurate from the book at all. In Who p-p-p-plugged Roger Rabbit, it is revealed that the events from the Who Censored Roger Rabbit book was a bad dream that Jessica had.

They really need to do a second Roger Rabbit movie. I doubt today's generation of kids would understand it, but at the same time it could be an interesting way to showcase how time has passed and how animation has changed. Since Hoppins, sadly, passed away, they would have to introduce a new character/actor to replace him anyway. This could make way for the possibility of setting Roger in our time era and introducing all the past toons from the place where the first movie took off all the way to current. I mean picture characters like Dream Work hanging out with Disney and Pixar or even Nickelodeon characters hanging out with Cartoon Network characters. It would be interesting and mix the old and the new.

+Luckygirl or better yet, have it be a prequel to Who Framed. Think about it, have it follow the Valliant Brothers as they solve mysteries. Have it end with the Brothers just getting done with the main plot, going into their car, hearing about the famous bank heist with Doom and then watch the car rush off...end credits. Boom.
@UrSammich
@UrSammich 8 жыл бұрын
Alex Biersner That could work, but again the problem is with Hoppkin's death and all, they would have to either find someone similar to him or showcase him as a young Eddy. Even in the film their is a photo of him and his brother so I mean...it could and couldn't work for that reason. I think honestly doing a squeal would be better so kids can associate with toons they recently know while also introducing character's parents and grandparents grew up with.

To be honest. On the note of the Mary Poppins Penguins. Maybe before they got their role at disney they worked as the waiters at the ink and paint, After walt put out an ad for penguins, they signed on, but if given interviews, I'm pretty sure they'd say "Julia Roberts is an absolute doll, but she never looked me in the eye she'd always look to my right or to my left, but never directly at me."

In addition to never blinking, Judge Doom's cape is always fluttering as if in a breeze, even indoors. Likewise it's for the same reason: to subtly make him more like a cartoon. Anyways, I honestly hope they don't make a new Roger Rabbit. Part of what makes the film so amazing is how much of a technical marvel it is, how they made cartoons feel like physical objects when nothing was actually there. If they made a film today, they'd throw Andy Serkis in a green onesy and call it a day. The test footage of CGI Roger doesn't have the same striking appearance as the original because CGI is overused and therefore not as interesting to look at. Roger Rabbit holds up because of the sheer effort put into it, a modern sequel wouldn't show nearly that level of effort.

History Lesson: The plot in the movie regarding buying and destroying all the trolleys really happened during the same time frame across america by the oil and auto companies to generate more revenue from their gas burning cars with their many brakeable moving parts. They seen how much money they were technically losing from having electric vehicles compete on the roads which were cheaper and more reliable. This war on electric transportation in general went on again from 1990-2005 and still exists in some degree.

#77 - The two weasels that were cut were SLIMY & FLASHER. Slimy was cut cause the effects animators thought Wheezy's smoke was easier and faster to animate. Flasher was cut because Psycho animation was already finalized and they thought the two of them would be redundant. Sleazy is the given name to the six weasel in the roger rabbit theme park ride. FYI It was actually made for anther attraction that sadly, never saw the light of day.

I think Hopkins was the best choice in hindsight. Ford would’ve been funny, but he’s normally too serious for that kind of role. Murray, also would’ve made the film a bit more unnecessarily comedic than the situation needed- Scrooged is a great example how his usual comedic side doesn’t mesh with the more serious story that was intended at times. Hopkins knew how to balance when to be serious and when to be funny- which is important to be able to take the realism of a Toon/human world seriously.

It would be great to have a film that portrays the many different eras of animation and video games coexisting in the same universe (other than Ready Player One) and have characters complimenting each other in a natural way, or playing off of each other in a humourous way that doesn’t feel forced/ shoehorned in, and there could be this foreboding essence throughout the film that threatens their very existence. It’d be great to see Classic-animated Mickey and Bugs share screen time with Mario and Sonic, and have The Simpsons share screen time with Merry Melodies, Goku and Vegeta interacting with Popeye and Bruno, etc... keep in mind that each interaction is to be done with meticulous care and consideration with characters’ personalities at the forefront of priority.

The discovery of Jessica's missing panties was made on laser disc, not VHS. Someone was watching the scene in slow-motion. I believe the quality of VHS would have made the discovery nearly impossible to notice. The animators said they just failed to draw them in thinking no one would ever watch the scene so closely.

Fact 108 - The end song features Bill Farmer as Goofy (he did a Goofy impression during the ADR sessions), even though Tony Pope is credited as Goofy's voice. However, Pope's scene was eventually cut from the movie, making it Bill Farmer's debut as Goofy.

We could have had TIM CURRY as Judge Doom?! As if being cheated out of the role of the Joker wasn't bad enough! Christopher Lloyd and Mark Hamill did great as Judge Doom and the Joker, but still, to think that we could have had Tim Curry!

They should have mentioned that during the car chase scene they had a few quick flash shots where they animated Eddie because some of the stunts were too dangerous to pull with a real actor. They did well on that because I didn't notice until I watched the movie last month. :D

_Who Framed Roger Rabbit_ is a one-of-a-kind movie that can never be done again. No amount of money and technology now could match up to the sheer will and effort put into this film then.

Ok, I still have a question. In the Ink and Paint Club where Valiant talks to Betty and sees Jessica's performance, he is given a drink by a penguin. Before he drinks it, he pauses to look at it and even takes out the ice to inspect it before remarking "Toons..." and setting the drink down in discust. What was wrong with his drink?

Walt Disney Productions purchased the film rights to Gary K. Wolf's novel Who Censored Roger Rabbit? shortly after its publication in 1981. Ron W. Miller, then president of Disney, saw it as a perfect opportunity to produce a blockbuster. Jeffrey Price and Peter S. Seaman were hired to write the script, penning two drafts. Robert Zemeckis offered his services as director in 1982, but Disney declined as his two previous films (I Wanna Hold Your Hand and Used Cars) had been box-office bombs. Between 1981 and 1983 Disney developed test footage with Darrell Van Citters as animation director, Paul Reubens voicing Roger Rabbit, Peter Renaday as Eddie Valiant, and Russi Taylor as Jessica Rabbit. The project was revamped in 1985 by Michael Eisner, the then-new CEO of Disney. Amblin Entertainment, which consisted of Steven Spielberg, Frank Marshall and Kathleen Kennedy, were approached to produce Who Framed Roger Rabbit alongside Disney. The original budget was projected at $50 million, which Disney felt was too expensive. The film was finally green-lit when the budget decreased to $30 million, which at the time still made it the most expensive animated film ever green-lit. Walt Disney Studios chairman Jeffrey Katzenberg argued that the hybrid of live-action and animation would "save" Disney's animation department. Spielberg's contract included an extensive amount of creative control and a large percentage of the box-office profits. Disney kept all merchandising rights. Spielberg convinced Warner Bros., Fleischer Studios, King Features Syndicate, Felix the Cat Productions, Turner Entertainment, and Universal Pictures/Walter Lantz Productions to "lend" their characters to appear in the film with (in some cases) stipulations on how those characters were portrayed; for example, Disney's Donald Duck and Warner Bros.' Daffy Duck appear as equally talented dueling pianists, and Mickey Mouse and Bugs Bunny also share a scene. Apart from this agreement, and some of the original Looney Tunes voice artists being hired to reprise their roles, Warner Bros. and the various other companies were not involved in the production of Roger Rabbit. However, executives at Warner Bros. expressed displeasure at the animators using the Daffy design by Bob Clampett and demanded they use the design by Chuck Jones; in response to this, Zemeckis had separate artists animate Daffy using Jones' design to satisfy Warner Bros. in order to use Clampett's design in the final film. The producers were unable to acquire the rights to use Popeye, Tom and Jerry, Little Lulu, Casper, or the Terrytoons for appearances from their respective owners (King Features, Turner, Western Publishing, Harvey Comics, and Viacom). Terry Gilliam was offered the chance to direct, but he found the project too technically challenging. ("Pure laziness on my part," he later admitted, "I completely regret that decision.") Robert Zemeckis was hired to direct in 1985, based on the success of Romancing the Stone and Back to the Future. Disney executives were continuing to suggest Van Citters to direct the animation, but Spielberg and Zemeckis decided against it. Richard Williams was eventually hired to direct the animation. Zemeckis wanted the film to imbue "Disney's high quality of animation, Warner Bros.' characterization, and Tex Avery humor." Producer Steven Spielberg was able to convince Warner Bros. studios to let Robert Zemeckis include several of their Looney Tunes characters within this film, a Disney production. Warner Bros. agreed providing certain quality control and screen time conditions were met and that their characters were treated with respect by the animators. Several years later, Warner Bros. were in the pre-production planning stages of live action/animated crossover movie Space Jam (1996) and asked Disney if they would return the favor and let them include a major Disney character appear at the final game of the movie as a 'special guest'. Disney (by then under a new management regime) flatly refused. This resulted in Warner Bros. angrily accusing Disney of breaking an almost decade old gentleman's agreement and saying they will never co-operate with Disney again. As a result, and despite initial threats of legal action, the Warner Bros. film had several barbed jokes written into the script that are pitched directly at the Disney Corporation. This movie is the first (and only, as of 2021) time cartoon characters from Walt Disney and Warner Bros. have appeared together on-screen.
