Geoff is definitely my favorite guy they have on here. He's so open about the insecurities artists have, it makes me feel more comfortable with dealing with it in my own work.

the background of the cover was done tonally in pencil, and shot on a stat camera through a mezzotint halftone screen (mezzotint is a random pattern, instead of a uniform dot). The foreground art was shot on a stat camera without the screen. Then the foreground and background stats were pasted up together and reshot for the final cover.

When I seen the cover for this tabloid sized Batman I was just amazed at the cover. Loved that this was my first introduction to Ras Al Ghul.

One of my fave episodes, seeing you three analyze and ENJOY all the details of that treasury. Geof’s laugh should be a ringtone!

Can’t get enough of your chats with Geof, and hear you 3 guys talk about Neal’s work is just awesome. The best tribute, 3 artist, 3 friends, talking and laughing while analyzing and appreciating one of the Greats’ work. Cheers guys, keep it up!

Geof Darrow is always great when he’s on. I wish he could do more of these.

One of my favorites of the treasury edition sized DCs. C-25 is another Batman book with a great Adams cover. C-25, C-51, and C-59 are must haves if you're both a Bats and Adams fan.

Love Geof Darrow. Still tracking down all the variants for Shaolin Cowboy. Neal Adams, what a draftsman - excellent breakdown gentlemen. Time to go play with dolls.

I first became aware of Neal Adams with the X-Men run and then you'd be looking for him. Like House of Secrets had him doing the covers but yeah Specter and Deadman were super eye catching. There were a number of artists (Buscema, Gil Kane, Jack Kirby, Gene Colan, John Severin (Marie too) Russ Heath, Joe Kubert there're too many) from the old days. Geoff Darrow is awesome too and then when they referenced David Morrell it really connected because I read it before the movie also so anything by him you'd look for too. Anyway thank you for this.

Neal is prob one of the top 10 artists that got me onto art as a kid in the late 70s

I had this Treasury edition and would spend hours just looking at the fine details of the artwork. I had several of these treasury size. I hope DC considers doing this as a hardcover as a tribute to Neal's legacy.

That would be amazing. I would pick that up in a heartbeat. I’ve only gotten into comics the past 5 years so I love going back into comics history. Neal Adams is someone I haven’t heard a lot about, until his passing. (Rip Neal) but his artwork is undeniably some of the best thing to happen to comics. I wish I could’ve experienced this era as a kid.

The cover: i THINK he's using a textured paper with corse wood pulp grain, drawing Ras in pencil and other "dry" medium, no ink, air brushing a gradient, and drawing Batman and Robin on a seperate piece (vellum?) And pasting it up.

If it wasn’t for these two guys I wouldn’t have learned as much as I have in the last year about cartooning. I’d be stuck reading the same three mangas over and over and leaving all my 90s Wizard magazines in the nostalgia bank.

I always thought the Ras image on the cover was rendered in penciled and then blown up to get that texture.

Such a classic run of issues reprinted (complete with a classic wraparound cover), especially when enlarged to treasury--or tabloid--size!

Neal Adams has/had a KZbin channel. Very nice guy to exchange comments with, which I did with him 14-15 or so years back, but absolutely dogmatic about his own expanding Earth hypothesis which he says explains what geologists mistakenly call plate tectonics. He even sunk a huge amount of his personal income into promoting it. I never followed it up so have no idea where he stands on it now.

Yes! The two-part episode "The Demon's Head" (written by Denny O'Neil and Len Wein, based on O'Neil's issues) adapts the classic Ra's Al Ghul saga reprinted in this very treasury!
