Ed got this 50 year old who had completely given up to start drawing again, I owe him
@CamelClutchComics6 ай бұрын
I'm from Pittsburgh and ran into Ed twice. Once at a local shop where I was too shy to approach since he was already having a conversation with the owner, a second time a few months later at a different shop where I only planned on saying that I enjoyed the KZbin channel and give him thanks. I truly was afraid of bothering him and planned on just giving the comment and going about my business. But he was such an insanely nice and passionate guy, he asked me what I was picking up and we ended up talking about Mark Texeira's art for a solid 20 mins. I'm a social guy and I don't tend to get very nervous, but I still couldn't believe how easy he was to talk to. His passion was absolutely contagious.

R.I.P Ed Around the age of 14, I stopped reading comics and started graffiti-writing; two interests that felt worlds apart to me at the time. I became fixated on old-school hiphop culture, style and imagery. Low-res copies of Wild Style and Style Wars were on heavy rotation. A few years later, on one occasional trip to the comic shop, I saw the first floppy issue of Hip-hop Family Tree on the new comic rack and it blew my mind! Ed did his HOMEWORK. I couldn't believe the amount of niche graff references throughout the entirety of HHFT. The whole Ed. P visual language spoke to me. Years later, I discovered Cartoonist Kayfabe, and it's the SAME GUY?! The body of work Jim and Ed have put into Cartoonist Kayfabe can't be overstated. I've learned so much about comics history and craft by watching CK daily and I'm excited to read/make more comics! My condolences to Ed's family and Jim

Cartoonist Kayfabe has been so important and enriching in my life ever since I stumbled upon the channel a few months after you started it (Jim’s 25 cent haul video was my first and I was instantly hooked). Being between Jim and Ed in age and scooping up all those Image books in the early 90’s I felt a camaraderie and connection to them as people. I gave up my dreams to become a cartoonist in high school to pursue becoming a musician, but comics never left my life. But my unending passion for comics grew a thousandfold through watching CK every day. I have been Kayfabe affected to the moon and looked forward to each video, knowing my knowledge would be expanded yet again. Ed’s passing really hit me hard. I wanted to comment on every video Jim posted after Ed’s passing but was too broken up to type the words, until now. Ed and Jim are the kind of truly selfless people who only want to spread the gospel of good comics and devotion to your craft. I will watch these videos over and over for the rest of my life, and not a day will go by that I won’t think of Ed and how he touched my life along with so many others. It was a beautiful panel and some small amount of closure that this whole community needed. Thank you Jim and the Piskor gals and his tightest bros for doing this. Okay, time to dry my tears and go read a comic.
