Aw, man! You passed over my "Amazing Artists" feature on page #52. A big deal when I was 19!

This is basically the only channel I watch where I see a one hour long video and think, "aw man, only one hour." However, this episode was amazing, Jim was HEATED for the first 20 minutes of it and then Ed drops the "Jim Davis" burn and kills it.

Just discovered these wonderful "Deep Dive" commentaries into the Back Issues of "Wizard Magazine." I have kept all of these back issues, and they capture such an incredible time in the comic business. I still cannot find the definitive Label for this era: "The Speculator Era," "The Chromium Age" (For All the gimmicks), "The Dark Age" (for the more pronounced themes of violence and adult subject matter). Whatever the nomenclature, pouring through these, literally "page by page," is an awesome endeavor, and you gents have nailed it. Thanks for creating!

When I was a kid in the 80's my friend's mom worked at a computer store, which is where Nintendo first tried to market the nes They gave the manger a nes and told the employees to bring it home to their kids to check out. I got to play mario bros, duck hunt, and a game that is one of my all time favorites pro-wrestling. Our minds were blown.

There’s a Deathmate Silver as well. Drawn by Joe Q. I’m sure you know it, but in case you missed it, dig it up! Also we got Soawn 5 in Australia. It just wasn’t on the local newsstand/newsagent. You had to know where the direct market stores where back then. Which where kinda few and far between.

Valeria #5 came out because it was part of a crossover storyline. Roughly 5 pages of art exist from Valeria #3 (which was supposed to be the Spawn crossover).

Further to the Ultraverse 'creator controlled' as opposed to creator owned and who gets paid, Malibu is now owned by Marvel and they've hardly published anything with the characters (either reprints or new material) since it's acquisition in the mid 90s because of NDAs apparently, so even if they get a percentage, it's a percentage of zero...

The only cards i saved from the 90s were the Madman trading cards set. Totally killer line up of creators, including some of the last work ever by Kirby and Frazetta.

HI guys! Great episode! About Joe Quesada: probably worth mentioning Ash, his creator owned superhero along with Jimmy Palmiotti, published through Event Comics. Quite nice! Also, a short comment about Valiant comics: as a long time Kayfaber I know that neither of you are big fans. I wholly agree in the awful enterprise specifics of Valiant as a company, but I think that there were actually some very good comics published. Archer and Armstrong by BWS was ellegant, sophisticated and great fun (you really should dig it), there was literally nothing like it published at the time. The first issues of Magnus Robot Fighter were a great homage to sci-fi pulp and the first 10-12 issues of Solar, man of the atom are really something worth mentioning. There's also some great authors involved such as Steve Ditko. While definitely they never where a visual breakthrough such as Image Comics (I don't think that was never the intention, either), we can all agree that both Marvel and DC have been terrible companies to work for many times and that doesn't keep us from enjoying the comics that were made by great artists and writers for them :). Keep up the great job!
@CartoonistKayfabe5 жыл бұрын
There's a great X-O Manowar that Ditko draws, issue 6 (?). It's so weird to see his art on a character like XO. He also drew some WWF characters, including an Undertaker vs Bossman comic. Weird. Another Valiant comic that you didn't mention - Harbinger. The early issues of Harbinger were favorites of mine. David Lapham art, Shooter script. That book was like a new X-Men featuring young people who looked like young people in a world that looked a lot like our world. I enjoyed that book, specifically the trade paperback since the original issues were out of my price range at that time. - Jim
@capsuladeescape5 жыл бұрын
@@CartoonistKayfabe Right on! Harbinger early issues were great, I read them many years later because they were kind of hard to find at my area. In fact, I feel they were the foundations for the first two or three TPBs of the new Valiant, also worth checking out. I concur in both cases in the feeling of finding a book that, at long last, protrays young people in a relatable way. X-O Manowar 6 was a nice Ditko! I also recommend Magnus 18 & 19 , and Solar 14 & 15 (which he pencilled and coplotted) both solid and enjoyable Jim Shooter scripts with solid examples of late era Ditko. Looking forward to more Kayfabe!

Sorry, I couldn't make it all the way thru this one. I got to 37:59 before I couldn't take it anymore. For some reason there are a series of quick half-second video "blips" of the Wizard cover featured throughout the entirety of the episode.. I counted at least 16 of them, before I bailed. Could it be something that happened when you were putting the edit together? If I just had the Audio on, I might've made it to the end..
