Hey, Ed and Jim, Cable cover artist Raffaele Ienco here. I just finished drawing Star Wars: Darth Vader (2020) issues #1 to #10 for Marvel, just to keep you updated. Love your videos! Keep up the great work!

Hey, my Cable pin-up! Thanks for the shout-out, Ed. That was very exciting for me at the time.

Usagi Yojimbo has always been good - you can start with the early books and it’s still a fun read.

Marc Silvestri had a short but sweet run on Web of Spider-Man in the mid 1980s. It was the first time I saw his great art style. Soon after he was the penciller on X-Men.

I’m loving these Wizard magazine episodes so much. Brings me back to when I was a kid and getting so excited when I would buy the latest issue.

Thank you both for doing these. This was the era of comic stuff I am most familiar with and glad to reminisce while also appreciating the artistry of the time.

Mark Schultz is amazing. He's good friends with my buddy Rog Petersen (a great comics artist and EC legend George Evans' grandson). I am not sure if Mark ever met George when he was alive, but I know George was one of Frazetta's mentors. Rog and Mark have worked together on Subhumans and also made trips to the Frazetta Museum.

I remember Wizard had a contest for a Jim Lee signed comic and in the fineprint it had the usual "employees of Wizard, Image Comics or Homage Studios are not allowed to enter" line but with "and this includes Jim Lee, his older brother Stan and his younger brother Jae" added to it.

I've let this episode play while I am drawing three or four times now, and I gasp every time Ed says he hasn't read Usagi Yojimbo. :O

Silvestri did a few issues of Web of Spider-Man and had the most hilarious inker whiplash for three issues, going from Kyle Baker to Vince Colletta and back to Kyle Baker!

Interesting note on Michelini and Web of Spider-Man 18, the wizard price guide began listing the issue as a cameo of Venom afterwards.

I believe the "Fly Slayer" character was entered into Erik Larsen's "create a Dragon bad guy" contest, and was shown as one of the finalists.

Been looking forward to this all day!!!!!!!!!

I think Fly Slayer turns up in the back of an issue of Savage Dragon from around the time. Larsen was doing his own version of the My Kind of Hero thing.

Shit man... when it comes to X-Force, I showed up for Liefeld and stayed for Milligan and Allred. Granted, I did have to suffer through about 90 issues of pure crap to get there.

This may have been my first issue when it was new. I remember a lot of these articles very distinctly. I still remember my 12 y o self going, "Kirby's coming back to create a new universe! Maybe I will get to meet him at one of these conventions!!!" Sadly I did not have enough time to make this happen. His health was already an issue from what I've read. The story of Don Heck coming to SDCC to promote the Topps line is great.

They printed some of those Ray Bradbury comics in back of the Topps X-Files comics. Cool stuff

Batman Grendel is the best - that first crossover is when Hunter Rose goes to Gotham and Batman breaks his arm, which then Hunter continues to have during that time period in later HR Grendel series. The second crossover is awesome though with Grendel Prime coming back in time to Gotham.

That Cybernary #1 is the best part of that issue for sure. I remember being a kid and loving that Cybernary book.

So this is the May 1993 issue? The world wide web launches in April of 93 and I know we've seen some references to Compuserve groups, but can you guys note when you see the first full url in the pages of Wizard?

Don’t think I’ve missed you talking about it, but is this Robo Fighter any good, as it constantly seems to be in the top 10 and I’m sold on the premise of a guy in a tunic, smashing robots in the face?

Damn, still cutting promos on Bart Sears. Haha, all good, lots of great coverage of a time very near and dear to me. And if y'all haven't seen the Genocyber anime, check them out. Very over the top violence and quite nihilistic. There's five OVAs, but I don't recommend the last two.

Fly Slayer was definitely featured in the back of Savage Dragon (I believe) #10, the issue where Erik Larsen featured a fan-created character called Jimbo Da Mighty Lobster...! He did a contest to feature a creation from an up and coming creator, and printed a bunch of the runner-ups in the letters page. (I submitted a character but didn’t even make the letters page.) I don’t own the issue but it made an impression and I still remember it well.

My favorite Iron Man vs X-Men "solution" was that Tony Stark would buy the X-Mansion and have the X-men evicted and arrested. Problem solved.
