Changing from a filter bag to a canister / cartridge filter on the 2 horse power (2hp, 1.5 kW) dust collector.
This is to improve both air quality inside the workshop and to improve the suction of the dust extractor.
Here I use a filter from the British company Axminster which fit directly on one of these dust collectors
(bought at a cheap tool shop like Harbor Freight and similar)

Hi Willy! Don't known if it's been suggested, but you really don't need the cloth bag on the bottom any more. It just makes it harder to see when the plastic bag is full. My lower plastic collection bag sits in a trash can so I can just release the full bag from the collector and pull the trash can out with the bag in it. Also, "Stumpy Nubs" has a mod using a 5 gal pail with a gamma seal lid that looks like it would work good.

I made the same upgrade to my Harbor Freight dust collector. The upgrade is well worth it!!! Ditch the bag....get a cartridge.

Found your channel while looking for examples of this very upgrade. I am very impressed at the ease of fitting a direct fit filter in place of the OE bag. My dust collector is identical to yours except for the color, mine is indeed from Harbor Freight. Thank you for posting your work, I will be emulating it in the near future. Your filter appears as good quality as one selling in the USA for over one hundred dollars more. The British seller even ships free to the USA. Thanks again.

The only comment I have is, with the cloth bag below you will never see when the bag is getting full. Plastic by itself works great

I like th rubber seal on the Axminister filter. A little different and slightly cheaper than the Wynn version here in the USA. I am not sure why you would put the cloth filter on the bottom. That seems counter productive as the cloth allows dust to filter back into the shop. Also that cloth bag is difficult to clean. A Plastic bag seems much better. I have reused one plastic bag for about 6 years.

I've never used a suction hose that large, so the dynamics might be different. But I get better pick-up if the angle between the hose-face and the floor is more acute. Nice looking unit.

You need a cyclone before this cartridge filters will be blocked with wood chips therefore reducing a lifespan. Moreover, it needs cleaning function to shake the dust out of it. For this kind of filter you need whole system. Cartridge filter is for fine dust only.

To get it on easier use some silicone based lube (safe for rubber/plastic) it helps so much

Your filter will last much longer if you only clean it with compressed air(60psi max). The brushes damage the paper filter. Great video!

How wide exactly was the drum on your dust collector. Mine is 489 mm (outside flange) below that the drum is 480mm. Wondering if this #700345 will fit mine. THanks

It would work, but I would not want to live outside of that hole 🤣 It was a bit expensive, but I think it was well worth it 👍

Blowing the dust outside would also blow outside a lot of the air inside the shop. That may be alright -- unless you've paid a lot of money to heat or cool the air. So, assuming you live in a temperate climate, where you don't need to heat or cool your shop, and assuming you and your neighbors don't mind the mess it would leave outside the shop, it's a great idea!

Det blir bra med et slikt oppsett ja :) Synes det funker en god del bedre også. Man får jo kjøpt hele slike sponavsug med filter på fra fabrikk, men de koster som regel ganske så mange 1000 lapper. According to Donaldson's media selection guide (link below), their "Cellulex" media is MERV 10. If you want a MERV15 version, go with model DBA7038, which uses their "Ultra-Web" media. Of course, it does cost a lot more.
