Featured is the Armageddon game between Anish Giri and Fabiano Caruana from Round 2 of the 2023 Norway Chess Tournament. In a must-win situation, Giri selects the Catalan Opening and enters a line that creates a weakness in his camp on b4. After Caruana initiates an exchange of dark-squared bishops, a battle of plans ensues, with Giri putting all his chips into an attack along the g-file, while Caruana creates open lines in the center. This event, known as the World's Strongest Chess Tournament, is currently being held in Stavanger from May 29th to June 9th.

This game is just one of the smoothest I have ever seen, considering Fabi had just 7 minutes to play this masterclass of a game.

Love your clarity of thinking Jerry. Reading the finer aspects of a chess game is my goal but my failures exceed my successes 😎🤣

Thanks. Keep covering all these games. You have great commentary and insight and it’s great hear it in a chill tone unlike some other streamers who will not be named. Go Fabi! lol

Instructive one.. Just one suggestion. You could have shown the proper defense after Qh5. Cause that move was actually scary with the sack on g6 coming

Still wonder how grandmasters decide when an outpost will be usefull. Like the knight on b4 doesn't seem very invasive and seems like it can be worked around, yet Caruana went for it

The way grandmasters can imagine a board state 5 moves in advance while all the pieces are still on the board gives me tremendous respect.

Why not King g7, defending the g6 pawn. The double Rook sacrifice would be losing

I think maybe pawn h5 would soon be an option for white to attack black and maybe Caruana didn't like that

At this level, it seems black is happy to be black as having to win as white at this level and the short time control is a lot to ask.

2:16 you called b4 a hole but isn’t b3 also an hole?
@janopa9719
@janopa9719 9 ай бұрын
It is, but it's not really possible to take advantage of it. White can easily offset anything on b3 with either knight to d2, white also might get the b3 break in themself if black tries going for that plan.
